Obama Admin Targets Down Syndrome Babies Under Obamacare
Prenatal testing for Down syndrome should not be considered preventive medicine. Such tests cannot prevent the presence of Down syndrome in a child; but they can decrease the likelihood of a child with Down syndrome surviving beyond the womb. Expectant parents need accurate information, including the many positive outcomes, about life raising a child with Down syndrome.

Last month, my daughter Juliet began second grade, where her mother and I expect her to maintain her B+ average on spelling tests and straight A s in Chinese. In addition to being a loving daughter and big sister, Juliet also is endowed with Down syndrome. At the start of the month, the Department for Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that future births of children like Juliet should be prevented. Down syndrome is the most common genetic cause of intellectual disability and, as such, will be targeted in the new HHS regulation s free nationwide prenatal testing program.

Discussions of HHS s new regulation have focused on the required availability of free contraceptive services under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The regulation is the result of HHS s adopting, in its entirety, the Institute of Medicine s (IOM) report on Clinical Preventive Services for Women. Buried in the IOM report is the recommendation for no-cost well-woman visits; these visits include prenatal care and thus prenatal testing for genetic or developmental conditions. The regulation was issued as part of the PPACA s coverage of preventive services. This prompts the question, how does prenatal testing prevent Down syndrome?

The IOM report defines preventive services to be measures . . . shown to improve wellbeing, and/or decrease the likelihood or delay the onset of targeted disease or condition. Down syndrome occurs at conception. Prenatal testing simply identifies whether a pregnancy is positive for Down syndrome a prenatal diagnosis after which most women choose to terminate their pregnancy. A prenatal test does not decrease the likelihood of Down syndrome in a person; it does allow for a decreased likelihood of a person with Down syndrome surviving beyond the womb. If this is how HHS is justifying prenatal testing for Down syndrome as preventive care, then HHS has ushered in a program meant to target future children like Juliet. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/obama-admin-targets-down-syndrome-babies-under-obamacare/

Pro-Life Group Lists Companies Backing Planned Parenthood
A pro-life organization that has spent decades working to try to get corporations to stop giving financial donations to the Planned Parenthood abortion business has released a revised listing of companies backing the abortion giant.

Life Decisions International has released a revised edition of The Boycott List, which identifies corporations that support Planned Parenthood, which does more abortions than any other business in the nation. Kenneth Garvey, the communications director for LDI, says the boycott has been successful over the years.

As a direct result of the commitment, action and prayers of pro-family people, at least 281 corporations have stopped funding Planned Parenthood, he said. It is estimated that the boycott has cost Planned Parenthood more than $40 million since the Corporate Funding Project (CFP) began. This should serve as a testament to those who think it impossible to change corporate behavior.

Garvey noted that the great success of the Corporate Funding Project is due to the tenacity of pro-life people who understand the power of the dollar and are willing to be inconvenienced for the sake of preborn children.

New boycott targets include Mesa Air Group and Trinity Investments, but the main portion of the boycott list is dedicated to corporations that LDI has been targeting for their Planned Parenthood donations for some time. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/pro-life-group-lists-companies-backing-planned-parenthood/

Perry Leads Romney Before Second Debate, Bachmann Fades
A new CNN poll shows pro-life Texas Gov. Rick Perry leads his Republican rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, by a large amount as pro-life Rep. Michele Bachmann is beginning to fade with GOP voters.

Perry enjoys a wide lead in a new survey ORC International conducted for CNN and is also viewed by Republican voters as having the best chance to defeat pro-abortion President Barack Obama next year. The poll comes just hours before the Republican candidates engage in the second debate that will feature Perry, who first participated in a GOP debate last week.

The CNN poll has Perry leading with the support of 30 percent of the Republicans surveyed, compared with 18 percent for Romney, who is campaigning for the second time as a pro-life candidate for president. Voters on the GOP side also see Perry as most likely to be able to defeat Obama in 2012, with more than 40 percent saying so compared with 26 percent who say Romney has the best shot to win.

CNN polling director Keating Holland responded to the results, saying, Perry s electability may go a very long way toward explaining his rise in the polls, since three-quarters of all Republicans say they would prefer a candidate who can beat President Obama over one who agrees with them on major issues. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/perry-leads-romney-before-second-debate-bachmann-fades/

Pro-Life Groups Announce Voter Registration Sundays for 2012
The 2012 presidential election is monumentally important for the pro-life movement as pro-life advocates look to replace pro-abortion President Barack Obama with one of the many pro-life candidates seeking the GOP nomination. But, that effort will be jeopardized if pro-life citizens are not registered to vote.

To ensure that every pro-life adult is registered to vote in the 2012 presidential elections, the Vote Pro-life Coalition, an ad hoc group of dozens of pro-life organizations, including LifeNews.com, has announced three Voter Registration Sundays where pro-life groups will work with churches and on their own in communities across the country to register pro-life voters.

Fr. Frank Pavone, the national director of Priests for Life, which organized the Vote Pro-life Coalition under its political responsibility outreach, designated the three days. He said the Coalition is asking organizations, churches, and Catholic dioceses to begin learning how to conduct a non-partisan voter registration drive, and to begin planning now to give their people the urgent invitation and opportunity to register to vote.

The dates of next year s Voter Registration Sundays are May 27, the date of Pentecost in the Christian church, July 1, the Sunday closest to Independence Day, and September 9, the Sunday closest to Patriot Day. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/pro-life-groups-announce-voter-registration-sundays-for-2012/

Pro-Life Gov. Bobby Jindal Endorses Perry for President
Bobby Jindal was once on most pro-life and conservative short lists as a potential presidential nominee; now the Louisiana Gov. is supporting his neighbor for president, Texas Governor Rick Perry.

CNN broke the news today that Jindal would support Perry s campaign as an endorser and he will join his fellow governor tonight in Florida as the Republican presidential candidates engage in the next debate the second to feature Perry following one last week.

Rick Perry is the candidate who can lead our party to victory in 2012, said Gov. Jindal. His record on job creation simply cannot be beat, and the one million jobs he s helped create as governor is a stark contrast to the 2.4 million jobs lost on President Obama s watch. President Obama promised hope, but he simply hasn t delivered. Rick Perry will bring our country more than hope he ll get America working again.

Perry responded, saying, I truly appreciate Gov. Jindal s endorsement because he is a leader who knows what it takes to rebuild an economy and restore people s confidence. His efforts to cut taxes and reduce unreasonable regulations are helping the Louisiana economy grow, and that is exactly what I aim to do for America. I look forward to continuing to work with him throughout this campaign, and with his help, we ll get America working again. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/pro-life-gov-bobby-jindal-endorses-perry-for-president/

Incredible 9/11 Commercial Promotes Pro-Life Message
A multimedia company that uses powerful videos to share the pro-life message has crafted a new video that coincides with the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks to promote respect for all human life.

Virtue Media released the new video Humane Humanity to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11 and to help Americans take a moment to rededicate ourselves to upholding the sanctity of all human life.

Over the years humanity has made terrible mistakes. People were treated as less than human, even killed because they were a different skin color, because they were a different faith because they were unplanned, unknown and helpless, the video says. But over time we are slowly learning that we are all God s children, created in His image. And to disregard the value of human life whether through hate or indifference, is wrong.

That all human creation, regardless of race, religion, abilities or stage of human life has an inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness a right to love and be loved, it continues. As Americans, let s cherish the sanctity of life. Because we know how it feels when others treat us as less than human. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/incredible-911-commercial-promotes-pro-life-message/

Tim Pawlenty Endorses Republican Mitt Romney for President
Tim Pawlenty, the pro-life former governor of Minnesota who was the first to drop out of the Republican presidential race following the Iowa Straw Poll, has issued an endorsement today for Mitt Romney, who is seeking the GOP nomination for a second time.

The endorsement has the former governor of a Democratic-leaning state endorsing a candidate whose conservative economic and social issues views are similar to his own. Like Romney, Pawlenty ran a campaign primary focused on attacking pro-abortion President Barack Obama on the state of the economy and the lack of leadership in putting forward ideas to create jobs for Americans who are out of work.

Also, like Pawlenty, Romney is running as a pro-life advocate who has supported overturning Roe v. Wade, de-funding Planned Parenthood, stopping taxpayer funding of abortions and putting judges in place who will respect the Constitution and not make up abortion rights from the bench.

Mitt Romney is fighting for the same things I fought for as governor and during my campaign for president, Pawlenty said in an email LifeNews received.

As a former blue state governor, I appreciate what Mitt was able to do in Massachusetts. He created jobs and balanced his budgets without raising taxes even with an over eighty percent Democrat legislature, Pawlenty continued. That ability to get things done is what we need in our nominee. In addition, he has a background which is unmatched his understanding of the private sector proves he knows how jobs are created which will be critical in turning our economy around. I am proud to endorse his candidacy for president of the United States. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/12/tim-pawlenty-endorses-republican-mitt-romney-for-president/
