40 Days for Life Campaign Starts Next Week Biggest Ever
The next 40 Days for Life pro-life prayer campaign starts next week and it is the biggest ever, according to Shawn Carney, the national director of the event that has become an inspiring grassroots pro-life phenomenon.

When the last campaign ended in the Spring, pro-life advocates had gathered at 247 locations across the country and around the world and organizers said, at the time, they had confirmations of 483 unborn children whose lives were spared because of the campaign at abortion centers. That made the number of babies who had not become victims of abortion reach a high of 4,082 and it has gone up since.

Those numbers will grow if only because Carney indicates more than 300 locations are a part of this Fall s 40 Days for Life, which will be conducted from September 28
to November 6.

This fall s 40 Days for Life will be a record-setter and you are invited to help make history, he said. This fall s campaign, from September 28 November 6,
will be the largest and longest internationally coordinated pro-life mobilization in history and you can help save lives by getting involved today.

Some 48 states will see local efforts along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Seven Canadian provinces will participate as will pro-life advocates in Australia, England, Spain and, for the first time ever, Germany and Argentina. Some 46 cities will see campaigns for the first time.

Reviewing the numbers, Carney says 400,000 people have participated in 40 Days for Life campaigns since its inception, 13,000 church congregations have participated, 4,313 lives reported as spared from abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/19/40-days-for-life-campaign-starts-next-week-biggest-ever/

Michelle Obama s Chief of Staff Speaks at Pro-Abortion Event
The chief of staff to First Lady Michelle Obama was today s keynote speaker at the Power of Choice Summit sponsored by leading pro-abortion activists group NARAL.

Tina Tchen, who has been a part of the Obama administration since its early days, spoke at the event which NARAL says was organized to attack pregnancy centers providing women with abortion alternatives at no cost.

The Power of Choice Summit brought together students, activists, and community leaders for education and training, featuring a session on dangerous Crisis Pregnancy Centers. There were also sessions featuring Black Women for Wellness and California Latinas for Reproductive Justice discussing anti-choice billboards, NARAL says on its web page.

While the promo for the event doesn t mention Tchen, NARAL affiliates today applauded having Michelle Obama s top staffer at the NARAL summit and shared snippets of her comments and pictures of her at the event on Twitter. NARAL itself said it was honored to have the Obama staffer at its event and supplied a picture of her speaking to a small room of pro-abortion activists.

Keynote speaker today is Tina Tchen, the chief of staff for First Lady Obama. Great person for women s rights, one NARAL activists tweeted. NARAL s Arizona affiliate had Tchen saying, No one is more with women than President Obama. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/16/father-pavone-no-one-needs-permission-to-do-pro-life-work/

Planned Parenthood Closes Four Texas Centers After De-Funding
A Texas affiliate of Planned Parenthood will close four centers in south Texas thanks to the bill pro-life Gov. Rick Perry signed revoking taxpayer funding for the nation s biggest abortion business.

Planned Parenthood Association of Hidalgo County announced over the weekend that will close four of its centers and lay off half of its staff in response to the cuts the state legislature approved, which state pro-life groups like Texas Right to Life and Texas Alliance for Life supported. The abortion business plans to shut down centers in Rio Grande City, San Carlos, Progreso and Mission.

The Planned Parenthood affiliate will consolidate its offices and refer existing customers to remaining centers in McAllen, Edinburg, San Juan and Weslaco.

While it claims the cuts will deny women access to some non-abortion health care Planned Parenthood also provides, thousands of other agencies and medical offices are located throughout the state that provide the same or better quality health care for women without the trappings of also destroying lives in abortions.

Isabel Mercado, the president of the agency s volunteer board, told The Monitor newspaper that the number of staff the affiliate employees will drop from 67 to 32 after the cuts, which she claimed would have a devastating effect for women in the south Texas area. Although Planned Parenthood Association of Hidalgo County does not do abortions, it refers women for them to places that do them. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/19/planned-parenthood-closes-four-texas-centers-after-de-funding/

Congressional Hearing Marks 35 Years of China s One-Child Policy
Members of Congress will hold a hearing tomorrow on the one-child family planning policy China instituted and it comes just days before the forced abortion-supported policy marks its 35th anniversary.

Congressman Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican who is the pro-life leader in the House of Representatives and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights, while chair the Thursday hearing. The hearing is titled, China s One-Child Policy: The Government s Massive Crime Against Women and Unborn Babies.

The hearing will be held in 2200 Rayburn House Office Building and Chai Ling, the founder of All Girls Allowed, and Reggie Littlejohn, the founder of Women s Rights Without Frontiers, are two of the witnesses. They both head groups that have focused on the human rights abuses associated with the one-child policy enforcement in China. Valerie Hudson, Ph.D, a professor in the Department of Political Science at Brigham Young University will also testify at the hearing.

Ling, the woman who, at age 23, was the commander-in-chief of the 1989 Tiananmen Square student rebellion, commented on the upcoming anniversary of the controversial family planning policy. Ling, now a U.S. citizen exiled from China, continues her fight against China s human rights atrocities by leading a U.S. protest and nationwide campaign against the policy.

Sept. 25, 2011 marks the continuation of China s gendercide war on girls, she said.

Ling says more than 37,000 abortions are done daily in China as family planning officials push many women into them in order to keep population numbers low. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/19/hearing-comes-as-chinas-one-child-policy-marks-35-years/

Two More Polls Show Perry, Romney Leading Republican Race
Two more national political polls show the Republican race for president has narrowed down to pro-life Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who is running as a pro-life advocate in his second bid for the GOP nomination.

While Republicans also support the several other candidates in the race, Perry and Romney, after two recent debates, have solidified their support to become the clear first and second place candidates, while the others are now struggling to stay in or reach the top tier.

A new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds Perry leading the race with the backing of 31 percent of Republicans while another 24 percent say they support Romney. Ron Paul, the pro-life Texas congressman, is the only other candidate in the new survey to reach double digits but he is 11 percent behind Romney at 13 percent overall.

Michele Bachmann, the pro-life Minnesota congresswoman, had been a top-tier candidate and won the Ames, Iowa straw poll that knocked out her home-state competition, pro-life former Gov. Tim Pawlenty. Since then, she has faded and now, the poll shows, has the backing of just 5 percent of Republicans. That level of support has her tied with pro-life former Speaker Newt Gingrich, and pro-life businessman Herman Cain. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, who is pro-life, is at 2 percent and pro-life former Utah governor Jon Huntsman comes in at 1%. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/19/two-more-polls-show-perry-romney-leading-republican-race/

Catholics Can t Vote for Pro-Abortion Candidates
Whether it s an election year or not, I see to it that Priests for Life echoes loud and clear the duty of citizens to inform themselves about where the candidates stand on the issues. This evaluation starts, of course, with where they stand on violence against human beings, because if public servants cannot tell the difference between serving the public and killing the public, they don t belong in public office.

What if a candidate supported terrorism? Would citizens say, Well, I disagree with you on terrorism, but what s your health care plan? Maybe we can work together on some social programs. After all, terrorism isn t the only issue.

prolifecaThe parallel, of course, is abortion. Typically, the skull is brought out in fragments rather than as a unified piece (Baby-killer Martin Haskell, in 1999 Court testimony in Wisconsin, regarding legal abortion). How can anyone make the case that this skull-cracking, which is still legal, is less violent than terrorism? How can anyone make the case that we can tolerate it while we work with the candidate on social programs? The heart of what is social is that it respects the other person and that means not cracking their skull. We fight terrorism, and rightly so. But when we allow abortion at the same time, the evil we fight becomes merely a reflection of the evil we do. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/19/catholics-cant-vote-for-pro-abortion-candidates/

Tea Party Activist Misstates Boehner s Pro-Life Abortion Record
Tea Party activist David Lewis has announced he will challenge pro-life Speaker John Boehner next year in the Republican primary for his Ohio congressional seat. Lewis says he is running because of one issue pro-life yet he misstates and misrepresent s Boehner s pro-life record on abortion.

Boehner is an establishment Republican, Lewis told The Enquirer newspaper, adding, He doesn t believe in the Tea Party. He doesn t really believe in the pro-life issues.

Boehner s office has not commented on Lewis candidacy but the local Republican Party chairman, Dave Kern, told the Cincinnati newspaper, I have no issue on educating the public on the wrongs of abortion. But I think the young man is mistaken to try to do damage to a committed soldier in this battle. His efforts could be spent more productively in other directions, and that s certainly what I would advise.

Mistaken is an apt word to describe Lewis erroneous portrait of Boehner s record on abortion as both an Ohio congressman and the Speaker of the House.

According to the National Right to Life Committee, in 90 votes Boehner has cast on pro-life issues ranging from abortion and abortion funding, to de-funding Planned Parenthood, to keep abortion out of Obamacare, and on bioethics issues Boehner has never cast a single pro-abortion vote. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/19/tea-party-activist-misstates-boehners-pro-life-abortion-record/
