Catholic Bishops: Obama, Rescind Your Pro-Abortion Mandate
The nation s Catholic bishops released a new statement responding to the revised pro-abortion mandate Obama put in place on Friday.

The Obama administration has revised its controversial mandate that had forced religious employers to pay for health insurance coverage that includes birth control and drugs like Plan B, the morning after pill, and ella that can cause abortions. Responding to a firestorm of opposition from pro-life organizations, Catholics groups and even some Democrats, the Obama administration has revised the mandate in a way that pro-life advocates are saying is even worse.

The revised Obama mandate will make religious groups contract with insurers to offer birth control and the potentially abortion-causing drugs to women at no cost. The revised mandate will have religious employers refer women to their insurance company for coverage that still violates their moral and religious beliefs. Under this plan, every insurance company will be obligated to provide coverage at no cost.

The new mandate has drawn opposition from pro-life groups and Catholic organizations and a concerned response from the Catholic bishops while Planned Parenthood and pro-abortion organizations are supportive. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/11/catholic-bishops-obama-rescind-your-pro-abortion-mandate/

Planned Parenthood Doesn t Do Mammograms That Saved My Life
As Komen for the Cure came under fire from Planned Parenthood for its decision to tighten its grant-making policies and as it faced criticism from pro-life advocates for seemingly going back on that decision, Americans United for Life s president put one aspect of the debate into perspective.

Central to Komen s initial decision to tighten its requirements was the knowledge that Planned Parenthood doesn t actually do mammograms.

As a breast cancer survivor, I am troubled that the Komen Foundation has come under such heavy fire for their recent decision to tighten and focus their funding guidelines, AUL president Charmaine Yoest recently said. We have all been witness to highly partisan attacks from pro-abortion advocates and an ugly and disgraceful shakedown that highlights Planned Parenthood s willingness to pursue a scorched-earth strategy to force compliance with their pro-abortion agenda. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/12/planned-parenthood-doesnt-do-mammograms-that-saved-my-life/

Obama Mandate to Cost Insurance Companies $2.8B, Raise Rates
Putting the moral and religious liberties concerns aside for one moment when it comes to the very controversial revised mandate the Obama administration issued today requiring insurance companies to cover birth control and drugs that may cause abortions, a cost component is coming into play.

As Tom McClusky, a vice president at the Family Research Council, notes, insurance companies will pay into the billions for coverage and will pass that on to consumers.

As for the President s insistence this saves money, Blue Cross s unofficial estimate was that it would cost $2.8 billion for the contraceptive/sterilization/abortifacient coverage, and $13 billion for all preventive care services. It would not be a huge jump in an average $4000 premium plan, about $13.00, but the overall cost is large. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/10/obama-mandate-to-cost-insurance-companies-2-8b-raise-rates/

Mitt Romney Wins CPAC Straw Poll, Santorum Places Second
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney won the straw poll at the CPAC conservative political action conference today, where more than 11,000 conservative and pro-life activists gathered to hear from top speakers.

After each of the GOP presidential candidates addressed the audience, Mitt Romney won the straw poll with the support of 38 percent of attendees, of which 3,408 voted according to the Washington Times which co-sponsored the straw poll. Romney won the straw poll at CPAC from 2007-2009 when John McCain became the Republican standard bearer against Obama. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/11/mitt-romney-wins-cpac-straw-poll-santorum-places-second/

Will Obama Next Force Insurance Companies to Fund Abortions?
In response to criticism of its recent regulation requiring coverage of FDA-approved birth control drugs and devices, the White House today announced a purported compromise under which insurance plans will be required to provide the coverage in all plans, without charging anything additional for it.

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), says it is very concerned the revised Obama mandate puts forward an Obama administration position that insurers can be required to provide the coverage for free because birth control is less expensive than childbirth.

NRLC legislative director Douglas Johnson says that could lay the groundwork for, if elected to a second term, Obama to force insurance companies to pay for more than just drugs that may cause early abortions but surgical or RU 486 abortion drug-induced abortions themselves. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/10/will-obama-next-force-insurance-companies-to-fund-abortions/

Romney Wins Maine Republican Presidential Caucus Vote
Mitt Romney won the state of Maine today as Republicans headed to their presidential caucus to cast ballots for the nominee to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

With 84 percent of the precincts counted, Romney won with 39 percent of the vote compared with 36 percent for Ron Paul who competed heavily in the state that has not drawn near as much media focus and attention as the three states that gave Rick Santorum another big boost last week Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota.

Santorum received 18 percent of the vote despite not campaigning there while Newt Gingrich finished fourth with 6 percent.

I thank the voters of Maine for their support. I m committed to turning around America. And I m heartened to have the support of so many good people in this great state, Romney said in a statement. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/11/romney-wins-maine-republican-presidential-caucus-vote/

GOP Candidates Press Pro-Life Themes at CPAC Conference
A frequent criticism of the Conservative Political Action Conference is its supposed lack of attention to pro-life issues. However, by the second day of the event, which draws over 11,000 conservative activists, it was clear right to life issues were not forgotten by key speakers or lost on attendees.

Friday kicked off with pro-life Governor Mike Huckabee, who also attended CPAC in order to attend a screening of his documentary The Gift of Life.

Following the film, a panel featured pro-life leaders, which gathered to discuss current pro-life issues The panel, moderated by Lila Rose, included Carol Tobias, President of National Right to Life, Charmaine Yoest, President of Americans United for Life, Kristan Hawkins, Executive Director of Students for Life of America and pro-life speaker Rebecca Kiessling. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/11/gop-candidates-press-pro-life-themes-at-cpac-conference/

Catholic Pro-Life Groups Oppose Revised Obama Mandate

Sex-Selection Shocks Us But Abortions on Disabled Babies Don t
In a recent, now famous editorial in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, interim editor-in-chief Rajendra Kale called abortion of female babies discrimination against women in its most extreme form. He called for the withholding of information regarding the sex of any unborn baby until 30 weeks gestation in order to stop the female feticide that he reports to be occurring mainly in certain ethnic groups. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/10/sex-selection-shocks-us-but-abortions-on-disabled-babies-dont/

Texas Ultrasound Law Upheld Again, Court Stops Legal Battle
Today the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals said it will not rehear the Texas sonogram law, meaning it stands and no woman in the state of Texas will be able to get an abortion until she has a sonogram and 24 hour waiting period. On January 25, the Center for Reproductive Justice issued this press release asking for an en banc, or full court rehearing on the Texas sonogram law, which had already been ruled as constitutional. Today the court said no. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/10/texas-ultrasound-law-upheld-again-court-stops-legal-battle/
