Komen May Continue to Fund Some Planned Parenthood Grants
Komen for the Cure has released a new statement responding to the massive national criticism they have received for cutting funding from the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

After the decision, Komen received massive praise from the pro-life movement with pro-life advocates of all stripes heaping praise on Komen, making donations and starting grassroots efforts to defend the breast cancer charity from criticism from the abortion business and its supporters. This new statement, meant to clarify its decision-making, is causing confusion and upsetting pro-life advocates who switched their loyalty to Komen after having boycotting the organization for years.

The following statement comes from Komen president Nancy Brinker: http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/komen-may-continue-to-fund-some-planned-parenthood-grants/

Pro-Life Groups: Unclear if Komen Will Fund Planned Parenthood
After delighting pro-life advocates with a new policy that appeared to make it so Planned Parenthood would find its funding massively cut or eliminated, pro-life advocates are now unclear whether the breast cancer charity will fund the abortion business.

Komen released a new statement today making it appear Planned Parenthood might be eligible for funding down the road but also making it appear that, if Planned Parenthood is found to be criminally liable in various state and federal investigations, that its funding stream would be cut off.

Matthew Clark, of the pro-life legal group ACLJ, hit upon the uncertainty.

It is unclear under Komen s new funding policy whether Planned Parenthood will qualify for future funding, he said. There are reports that this change in criteria means that Komen will honor funding to all 19 Planned Parenthood clinics and will allow them to apply for future funding. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/pro-life-groups-unclear-if-komen-will-fund-planned-parenthood/

Lance Armstrong s Livestrong to Donate $100K to Planned Parenthood
In the wake of the Komen-Planned Parenthood controversy, Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor, champion cyclist and Livestrong founder and chairman announced that his cancer group will donate $100,000 to the nation s biggest abortion business.

He issued the following statement:

For 15 years, the Lance Armstrong Foundation has served people and families affected by cancer, especially those in underserved communities. We join Mayor Bloomberg and our partners in the philanthropic community today in their efforts to preserve access to cancer screening for women throughout the U.S. The Lance Armstrong Foundation will add an additional $100,000 to Mayor Bloomberg s matching challenge for Planned Parenthood s cancer services fund. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/lance-armstrongs-livestrong-to-donate-100k-to-planned-parenthood/

Komen Board Member: Haven t Caved on Planned Parenthood Funding
Following a new statement Komen for the Cure released making many observers believe the breast cancer charity reversed position on whether it would fund grants to Planned Parenthood, one Komen board member says it hasn t caved.

Komen board member John Raffaelli talked with the Washington Post after the statement was released and said the new announcement doesn t necessarily mean there is any reversal until and unless Planned Parenthood receives additional funding beyond what was already planned before Komen s December decision.

It would be highly unfair to ask us to commit to any organization that doesn t go through a grant process that shows that the money we raise is used to carry out our mission, Raffaelli said. We re a humanitarian organization. We have a mission. Tell me you can help carry out our mission and we will sit down at the table. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/komen-board-member-havent-caved-on-planned-parenthood-funding/

Pro-Life Members of Congress Upset by Komen Reversal
Two pro-life members of Congress are responding to the new Komen statement making it appear Planned Parenthood may possibly still be eligible for funding beyond those grants approved prior to its December 2008 decision.

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers of Washington released the following statement from her office in Washington this afternoon:

I am deeply disappointed in the sudden reversal by the Komen Foundation of their original pledge to cut ties with Planned Parenthood the nation s largest abortion provider. Their original stance to stop funding pending an important congressional investigation was an act of courage and prudence, making their sudden reversal today appear hollow and weak, she said.

Ellmers added: As a nurse and mother, I will continue to champion the sanctity of life and women s health, regardless of contemporary trends and sometimes that takes the courage to do what is right, not what is convenient. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/pro-life-members-of-congress-upset-by-komen-reversal/

Komen Decision Exposes Planned Parenthood, Abortion-Breast Cancer
The first paper I ever wrote in graduate school was a review of the literature on Leprosy. It is a disease transmitted by contact that we now know to be caused by a close first cousin of the bacterium that causes tuberculosis, and can be cured using the same antibiotics that we use against TB. This miracle of 20th Century medicine has emptied the leper colonies, arresting and eliminating the disease in its earliest stages before it maims and disfigures its victims.

Sunlight seems to be having the same salutary effect on the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and they have elected to leave the leper colony, as Planned Parenthood languishes with the increasing ravages of their disfigurement, unwilling to take the medicine that would end the insideous effects of their disease. It s actually too late for Planned Parenthood, but for Komen, there is yet hope. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/komen-decision-exposes-planned-parenthood-abortion-breast-cancer/

Komen Could Get Out of This Mess by Funding Mammograms
Nancy Brinker has elected to lead the Susan G. Komen foundation to higher ethical and clinical ground, and Planned Parenthood is not letting them go without putting a gun to the foundation s head, claiming Brinker s decision was political. There is a simple way out for Komen that begins with an understanding of what they are leaving and where they are going.

Planned Parenthood does not perform mammograms, but only manual palpations. That s substandard for low-income women, especially Black women, whose incidence of breast cancer is frightfully higher than any other demographic.

Beginning TODAY Komen needs to announce a new initiative for purchasing mammogram machines for urban centers with high density, low-income women populations. Then they need to invite corporate America to join in the effort. What does corporate America want to do, fund Planned Parenthood squeezing breasts, or mammograms for women who are effectively shut out of the system? It s really that simple. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/komen-could-get-out-of-this-mess-by-funding-mammograms/

Komen Race for the Cure CEO Nancy Brinker and President Elizabeth Thompson revealed the main reason why the Planned Parenthood abortion business lost its funding. It doesn t do mammograms. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/why-did-komen-stop-planned-parenthood-doesnt-do-mammograms/

Networks Rush to Defend Planned Parenthood From Komen
The Big Three networks continued their blackout on covering the controversy involving the Obama administration trying to force Catholic institutions to include coverage of abortifacients and contraception in their health plans without a co-pay. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/03/networks-rush-to-defend-planned-parenthood-from-komen/

WHO/Lancet Paper Inflates Number of Illegal Abortions
A widely publicized report in The Lancet medical journal calling for the legalization of abortion contained inflated numbers, flawed data collection and highly misleading language. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/wholancet-paper-inflates-number-of-illegal-abortions/

Bloomberg Gives Planned Parenthood 250K as 40% of NYC Babies Aborted
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has an interesting way of helping women in the Big Apple. In response to the dustup over Komen s decision to yank funding from Planned Parenthood, he s giving the abortion business $250,000. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/bloomberg-gives-planned-parenthood-250k-as-40-of-nyc-babies-aborted/

American Medical Association Claims Ultrasound Law Dangerous
Texas new abortion sonogram law requires that woman receive a sonogram at least 24 hours before an abortion and that the doctor plays the sound of the baby s heartbeat for the mother and gives her the option to view the ultrasound. Seems easy enough, but abortionists are furious, stating that the law will mean women will have to wait longer for their abortion, schedule two trips to the clinic instead of one, and force clinics to have the high-demand abortionist on hand to do the sonogram. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/american-medical-association-claims-ultrasound-law-dangerous/
