40 Days for Life: DAY 13: Modern-Day St. Patricks

 

Ireland has been known for its deep faith since St. Patrick introduced the Emerald Isle to Jesus way back in the fifth century. But over the last decade, the country has strayed badly from its Christian heritage. Irish voters legalized same-sex marriage in 2015 and abortion in 2018 in landslide referenda. Pro-life Christians aren't going to let 16 centuries of Christianity go without a fight. Christian missionaries claimed the island for Christ before; they can do it again. "This is our fifth campaign, initiated by a missionary priest who said, 'Just go and do it,'" said Galway City 40 Days for Life leader Sean. Prayer warriors stand vigil in front of a formerly Catholic hospital, which now performs abortions. While the hospital has abandoned its biblical obligations to "the least of these," the 40 Days for Life team finds consolation in a monument that remains on the grounds. "We pray opposite a large statue of St. Patrick," Sean explained. "We often look at St. Patrick, thankful for the faith he brought to our land." Luck of the Irish? But the pro-life mother's involvement in 40 Days for Life led her daughter to change her mind and choose life. "She told her mother, and yesterday the happy new grandma told us about it," reported 40 Days for Life director of international campaigns Lourdes Varela.
