40 Days For Life: DAY 22: Abortion Hurts

Sometimes the trauma of abortion takes decades to manifest.

Other times it's immediate. That was the case in Honolulu, where a couple leaving Planned Parenthood saw James's "Ask Me About Healing After Abortion" sign and took him up on the offer.

James handed the man resources on post-abortion healing, while the woman slouched in the passenger seat, her eyes filled with tears.

The man thanked James before driving off. "Keep praying for those who had abortions to never ever do it again and to seek help," James said. "May Jesus touch their hearts and bring them closer to Him."

Encounters like this are painful.

As we proceed into the second half of this 40 Days for Life campaign, check out our recent episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, in which we discussed how to keep the peace of Christ in your heart when the horror of abortion takes an emotional toll:

Thankfully, there is plenty of uplifting news from the Honolulu vigil.

Dr. Donato Borrillo from the 40 Days for Life Institute of Law & Justice recently spoke at a prayer rally in front of Planned Parenthood.

"Worship music filled the air," Donato said.

Best of all, none of the facility's abortion doctors showed up that day, so no abortion procedures were performed!

"A big shoutout to James--and to St. Theresa's Parish for great support of the campaign!" Donato said.

Overland Park, Kansas

A man who had never seen a 40 Days for Life vigil stopped to talk with prayer warriors in Overland Park.

"He shared that in 1968, when he was 18 years old...his girlfriend became pregnant," said Wendy from the campaign team. "His girlfriend's mother flew...her 17-year-old daughter to New York City for an abortion that neither of them wanted."

The couple later married and had children, but the man remained angry for years--until he became a Christian and found healing.

"I believe it brought further healing to him to come and stand with us," Wendy added.

San Antonio, Texas

It's never too late to find the mercy and healing of Christ.

A woman in San Antonio saw an "Ask Me About Healing After Abortion" sign and stopped to confess that she still hurts after having an abortion 50 years ago.

"She studied biology in college, yet still believed the lie that it was only a speck and not a baby," explained Cindi, who leads the vigil. "She wanted to avoid humiliation and instead gained a lifetime of regret."

Cindi listened to her story--and then encouraged her to pursue healing.

"There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?”

--John 6:9

Lord, you multiplied the meager offering of one boy to feed a hungry crowd. Please do the same with our humble prayers. Multiply the fruits of these 40 days. Use our own resources to glorify your name. Grant us the humility to know our limitations, the wisdom to turn to you in moments of distress, and the grace to carry out your will with trust and courage. Amen.
