40 Days For Life: DAY 20: Hopeless Cases

With God on your side, there is hope even in the most hopeless situations.

That was the case with an abortion-bound woman in Atlanta, who refused information on alternatives to abortion...

...and then got out of her car and began photographing Cathy--a tactic sometimes used to try to intimidate vigil participants.

Cathy didn't give up. She simply shared the many ways her 40 Days for Life team could help. But the woman still entered the clinic.

As the young mother left the abortion facility, she gestured to Cathy that she wanted to talk. "If you could help me [find a] job, I know I can have this baby," she said.

Cathy made plans to meet with the young woman the next day to set her up with a job recruiter, joined her for an appointment at the local pregnancy help center, and reimbursed her for the money she spent on the ultrasound at the abortion facility.

"Praise God," Cathy said. "We had a baby saved today."

The mom has already had a number of abortions, but Cathy refused to allow the woman's initial response to get her down.

And that perseverance paid off, breaking the cycle of abortion and protecting both mother and child from another abortion!

Persistence was also the key in Chicago's western suburbs, where sidewalk counselors talked with and provided pregnancy help brochures to a couple headed for an abortion.

Just like in Atlanta, the couple entered the abortion business anyway--but stopped on the way out and revealed that they didn't go through with the abortion.

"[The dad] showed me the brochures I had given him and seemed happy," reported one of the campaign participants.

"This campaign is off to a great start," wrote Terry, the local vigil leader. "Let's keep the prayers up, trusting that God will use them to save more babies and women and men from the pain of abortion."

A woman in central Africa planned to get an abortion because she already has four children as well as a husband battling cancer.

But Gladys was able to provide support to empower her to keep her baby in spite of her difficult circumstances.

"She has chosen life," Gladys reported. "Prayer works."

But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to others to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.

--Matthew 6:17-18

Heavenly Father, we ask for humility in our prayer and fasting. Help us to place you at the center of our lives so that others will come to know you through our words and deeds. As we continue through these 40 days, help us to listen to your voice, act in accord with your will, and trust in the power of prayer even when we don’t always see the fruits on earth. Amen.

For life,
