Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The head of a national group that has helped get Choose Life license plates in states across the country says the plate campaign continues moving ahead. Russ Amerling tells LifeNews.com that the plates are in 17 states and counting and that five more states have active campaigns to allow motorists to purchase them in their states.

"Exciting things are happening across the US with the Choose Life license plate," Amerling says.

"There are five additional states working on the plate that wish to remain anonymous until they are successful, to avoid the opposition," he explains.

Amerling says the most recent success story concerns favorable court rulings regarding the Missouri and Arizona plates.

"The Choose Life license plate is winning all seven current suits. The Alliance Defense Fund is vigorously handling most of them and several more states may be sued if they continue to discriminate against the free speech of their pro-life citizens," he explains.

Amerling tells LifeNews.com his group has been able to promote the plate effort despite very little funding.

"I spoke to a supporter a few months ago and she was amazed that we have been able to accomplish so much with so little resources," he said.

Ultimately, the Choose Life plates across the nation have raised over $8.7 million and over 400,000 plates have been sold or renewed in the 17 state that currently have the plate available.

The money goes to support the promotion of adoption and helping women in crisis pregnancy situations find abortion alternatives.

Amerling says the pro-life movement is large and has numerous parts working together to promote the pro-life cause and "the Choose Life license plate is a vital part of that effort."
