AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Live nativity scene in front of National Congress marks beginning of "March for Life" held today in Buenos Aires, calling for laws to protect the family, life, and the rights of the unborn
Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) – December 9 - 20, in front of the National Congress (Rivadavia and Callao), the final march for life ( "Marcha de los Escarpines") for this year 2009 will be held. For this occasion there will be a special feature: a live nativity scene will be set up, to "celebrate life". Almost 50 organizations in Argentina have launched this new edition of the "March for Life" in defense of life and family based on marriage between a man and a woman. In this event, legislators will be asked to enact laws that protect the family, life, and rights of unborn children.
The organizers encourage all Argentineans to celebrate "Christmas with the Holy Family, and to call on legislators to respect life." Thus, all are invited to meet around 19 hours in front of Congress, near the Living Nativity Scene. "The Constitution of Argentina and the law protects the child's life from conception, but there is now an attack on the unborn child and the family through bills that are under discussion in the rooms of our country's offices. Your presence can change the fate of the fatherland," says the invitation to this event. The march, called by the pro-life organizations, will be accompanied by the flag of Argentina with a bow and black shoes for children, a symbol of those children whose murder was perpetrated in recent years through abortion.
"We will pray with Our Lady of Mercy for each family in Argentina and for peace," organizers said, adding that "the good of a marriage between man and woman are children, the good of society is the family...following this logic, government leaders must protect them." "We must pray a lot for life and the family," the organizers wrote, referring to the plans to legalize unions between persons of the same sex and to decriminalize the crime of abortion . (CE)
