MEDIA ADVISORY, Jan. 26, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Groups also to demand Congressional hearings on the safety of the abortion industry and it's failure to protect women.

With the recent revelations and murder charges against Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell and the barbaric practices at his clinic, the myth of abortions being "Safe and Rare" has now been shattered.

Since the abortion industry is so unregulated and unaccountable, it is impossible for any clinic or pro-choice organization to say that what happened at Gosnell's clinic is not happening in clinics throughout the nation.

Pro-life organizations will have a news conference on Thursday, January 27 at 1:00 P.M.

The location is the closed abortion clinic of Kermit Gosnell at 3801-3805 Lancaster Ave. Philadelphia.

The leaders will also point out the hypocrisy of the abortion industry calling for the regulation of Crisis Pregnancy Centers where there has never been any women murdered, killed, butchered, raped or subjected to unsafe, barbaric and gruesome practices.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition in Washington, D.C., states:

"Recent revelations at the abortion clinic of Kermit Gosnell shatter the myth that abortion is a somehow a 'safe' procedure. It is hard to imagine that the barbaric and gruesome events that occurred in this facility could take place in the most underdeveloped nations of the world let alone the United States of America.

"It is now becoming painfully clear that abortion remains the most under regulated business in America with women being treated worse than animals and government officials being more concerned about a political agenda than the health and safety of women.

"In light of what happened in Philadelphia we are calling for immediate Congressional hearings in Washington, D.C. looking at the dangerous and barbaric practices of the abortion industry and their disregard for women's rights.

"Of course, what Kermit Gosnell did should come as no surprise. For if you do not care for human rights and social justice for innocent children in the womb, why would you care about justice and human rights for women? We are working and praying for the violence of abortion to end in America and for the dignity of all life to be embraced."

Brandi Swindell, Co-Founder of Generation Life and President of Stanton Healthcare in Boise, Idaho, adds:

"As a professional woman, I am greatly angered by recent events at the abortion clinic of Kermit Gosnell. Angered that women are treated like second class citizens and a pieces of property. Angered that government officials failed to act to protect our civil rights.

"The reality is that hair salons and tattoo parlors are more regulated than the abortion industry in America. We now see the truth that the 'back alley' abortion clinics of 40 years ago are now operating on Main Street because of the Roe v. Wade decision.

"Women are being killed and brutalized because public officials would rather protect abortion rights than women's rights. We call for the immediate inspection of all abortion clinics in America to ensure women are safe.

"As a founder of a clinic that reaches out to women with challenging pregnancies, I am profoundly troubled that our clinics are being targeted while abortion clinics remain unregulated. It is important to remind America that no Crisis Pregnancy Center has ever murdered or killed a woman. No life affirming center has ever raped or brutalized a woman.

"When I get back to Boise, Idaho, I am going to meet with the Attorney General and other elected officials to hold hearings and draft legislation to ensure this never happens to another woman again. I am also encouraging all pro-life leaders across America to do the same."
