Abortion Increases Risk of Women s Mental Health Problems 81%
A new study published in the British Journal of Psychiatry by leading American researcher Dr. Priscilla Coleman of Bowling Green State University finds women who have an abortion face almost double the risk of mental health problems as women who have their baby.

Coleman s study is based on an analysis of 22 separate studies which, in total, examine the pregnancy experiences of 877,000 women, with 163,831 women having an abortion. The study also indicated abortion accounts for one in ten of every adverse mental health issue women face as a whole.

Results indicate quite consistently that abortion is associated with moderate to highly increased risks of psychological problems subsequent to the procedure, the study says. Overall, the results revealed that women who had undergone an abortion experienced an 81 percent increased risk of mental health problems, and nearly 10 percent of the incidence of mental health problems were shown to be directly attributable to abortion.

The peer-reviewed study indicated abortion was linked with a 34 percent chance of anxiety disorders, and 37 percent higher possibility of depression, a more than double risk of alcohol abuse (110 percent), a three times greater risk of marijuana use (220 percent), and 155 percent greater risk of trying to commit suicide.

When compared to unintended pregnancy delivered women had a 55% increased risk of experiencing any mental health problem.

Dr. Coleman said she conducted the study to produce an unbiased analysis of the best available evidence addressing abortion as one risk factor among many others that may increase the likelihood of mental health problems. There are in fact some real risks associated with abortion that should be shared with women as they are counseled prior to an abortion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/08/31/perry-promises-to-name-pro-life-advocate-as-vice-president/

Two Abortion Facility Workers Quit, Abby Johnson Says
Abby Johnson, the former Planned Parenthood abortion facility director, noted on her Facebook page today that two more abortion facility workers have left their positions in the abortion industry.

The news is great for pro-life advocates and an indication of what Johnson said recently was the Achilles Heel of the pro-abortion movement people leaving their positions at abortion centers.

This week, two abortion clinic workers have taken a huge leap of faith and have left their clinics, Johnson said. Both of these former clinic workers are now unemployed. Both workers have children at home and many other financial obligations.

It is scary to leave your only source of income, Johnson continued, but in the end, they knew it was the only thing to do. They had to do the right thing.

Johnson is attempting to raise $5,000 to help the two abortion facility workers as they try to take care of the financial obligations of their families and find a job in a legitimate field outside the abortion industry.

Can you help these two workers get through their next few paychecks while they are looking for employment? There is no amount too large or small. These two workers have trusted God to take care of their needs God is calling us to care for His children s needs. Thank you for your support, Johnson said. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/two-abortion-facility-workers-quit-abby-johnson-says/

Former Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Staffer Shares More
Ramona Trevino resigned her post at Planned Parenthood as a manager of an abortion-referral center earlier this year, making her the second Texas-based Planned Parenthood staffer to call it quits, following Abby Johnson.

Trevino said that, even though the Planned Parenthood clinic she managed did not perform surgical abortions, she was struggling with [her] conscience . . . on contraception, abortion and [her] role in it all. The facility where she worked closed last month after Texas legislators and Governor Rick Perry signed off on legislation revoking tens of millions in state taxpayer funds from Planned Parenthood.

She talked with the Houston Chronicle recently about the three years she spent working for Planned Parenthood, saying that, as a 34-year-old mother and Catholic, she had a change of heart on pro-life issues. As her teenage daughter got older, Trevino said she found it increasingly difficult to provide birth control and contraception to women with multiple sexual partners.

You send them away with a birth control script, but is that really going to help the problem? she said.

Now, Trevino is a spokeswoman for 40 Days for Life in Dallas where she told the newspaper she wants to reach out to help women who have had abortions.

I know that as long as abortion is legal, women are going to continue to choose that option, she said. Our job as Christians is not to judge that decision, but to help them heal from it. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/former-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz-staffer-shares-more/

Pro-Lifers Welcome First Fetal Pain Abortion Ban Lawsuit
A leading pro-life organization that is behind the innovative 20-week abortion ban based on the scientific evidence showing that unborn children feel pain during an abortion is welcoming the first lawsuit against it.

Normally, pro-life organizations bemoan the repeated lawsuits the abortion industry files against pro-life legislation that stops abortions and protects women and children. Such lawsuits invariably halt the enforcement of such legislation and prevent their protective effects from limiting and reducing the number of abortions.

In this case, a lawsuit an Idaho woman filed against the state s Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act The law is a new trend in pro-life legislation that prohibits abortions and places the focus on the unborn child as a victim during the abortion procedure and this suit is the first lawsuit brought against any of the similar laws state legislatures have passed.

The law was put together in part to expand on the Supreme Court s decision upholding the partial-birth abortion ban Congress passed with the hopes of getting the same five Justices to agree to erode Roe v. Wade further by upholding a ban on abortions after 20 weeks. As a result, Mary Spaulding Balch, J.D., director of state legislation for the National Right to Life Committee, the organization behind the new type of pro-life law, welcomed the lawsuit and said she believes the statute will be upheld at the Supreme Court.

We are confident that the Supreme Court will ultimately agree and will recognize the right of the state to protect these children from the excruciatingly painful death of abortion, she said. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/pro-lifers-welcome-first-fetal-pain-abortion-ban-lawsuit/

Tennessee Sends $75K Anti-Syphilis Grant to Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood is an abortion business but that isn t stopping the state of Tennessee from sending it a grant dedicating $75,000 in federal taxpayer funds the state received to a project meant to combat syphilis in the Memphis area.

WMC-TV 5 indicates the Tennessee Department of Health gave Parenthood Greater Memphis Region (PPGMR) a grant to combat syphilis in Shelby County that allows Planned Parenthood to prop itself up by adding legitimate medical services to its abortion business. PPGGMR will able to provide free syphilis testing starting next month at its 2430 Poplar Avenue facility.

The Centers for Disease Control chose the county as a target area because of high rates of the disease as it ranked fifteenth in the United States for syphilis rates and WMC-TV indicates Shelby County has the highest number of newly-diagnosed syphilis cases in Tennessee, and the infection rate for all stages of syphilis is five times higher in Shelby County than in the U.S. overall.

PPGMR CEO Barry Chase told the television station, The syphilis elimination project dovetails well with PPGMR s community HIV testing and prevention counseling program. Thousands of Mid-South women and teens rely on Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region for preventive and reproductive health care. This is another way we can serve vulnerable and at-risk populations who may have nowhere else to turn for health care.

But Brian Harris, of Tennessee Right to Life, is disappointed the abortion business received a grant that should have gone to a legitimate medical provider that can better treat potential patients and be free of the ethical concerns of having Tennesseans fund the nation s biggest abortion business with its tax dollars. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/tennessee-sends-75k-anti-syphilis-grant-to-planned-parenthood/

Tiananmen Leader Now Works to End China s One-Child Policy
While the Obama Administration continues to kowtow to China, others are not shying away from challenging the country s draconian one-child policy.

Chai Ling, a commander-in-chief of the youth-led 1989 Tiananmen pro-democracy movement, grew up in a culture that teaches children to worship government officials. She was taught to show respect and love for the police and for the People s Liberation Army which would kill or beat into submission any who longed too much for truth and freedom. Born into an existence where one must learn to love death in order to survive, over two decades after Tiananmen, Ling dedicates herself to the cause of life for the people of China.

Ling s non-profit organization All Girls Allowed works to reveal the injustice of China s One-Child Policy and to bring concrete assistance to families in China who have suffered under this policy since 1980. In her testimony about her conversion to Christianity, Ling relates that she came to understand that her work as a leader of the Tianenmen Square protest should continue through ending China s forced abortion policy when she attended a U.S. Congressional hearing and witnessed the testimony of a Chinese woman named Wujian . http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/tiananmen-leader-now-works-to-end-china%E2%80%99s-one-child-policy/

Australia May Have Dangerous Abortion Drug Available Soon
Australia may soon have the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug available nationwide after having it only in a very limited supply for the last few years. That s despite the fact that the abortion drug has killed dozens of women and injured thousands more.

The Australian newspaper Australian Doctor indicates an application to make the abortion drug widely available has been submitted to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the Australian equivalent of the FDA in the United States, by an unnamed company. The company has been working closely with abortion practitioner Caroline de Costa, who was the first to bring the abortion drug to the island nation.

De Costa told The Australian she understood a firm was making an application to the TGA to market the drug but she would not name the company saying it was very anxious not to have any publicity in the belief a controversy might ruin its chances of securing approval.

Figures the FDA released in April in the United States show at least 14 women have died from using the abortion drug in the United States, dozens have died worldwide, and more than 2,200 have been injured by the mifepristone abortion drug in the U.S. alone. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/australia-may-have-dangerous-abortion-drug-available-soon/

Ten Back to School Ideas for Pro-Life Students
I used to hate this time of year. Back to school were probably three words I hated more than any other. I know it is easy to say that now I love the idea of back to school since I am long past my school age years, but if I could go back with the knowledge I have now I would do it in an instant. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/ten-back-to-school-ideas-for-pro-life-students/

Answering Questions About Possible Down Syndrome Treatment
In a recent article here at LifeNews, Possible Treatment for Down Syndrome Raises Ethics Questions, author Effie Caldarola raises the ethical issue of treating those with Down Syndrome with a new drug under development by Dr. Alberto Costa. The new drug promises to stimulate and normalize growth in the Hippocampus of the brain, leading to improved cognitive function, and presumably enhanced academic and vocational performance. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/01/answering-questions-about-possible-down-syndrome-treatment/
