Appeals Court Panel Dismisses Virginia Obamacare Lawsuit
A three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit Appeals Court today dismissed the lawsuit the state of Virginia filed against the Obamacare law, which is one of several lawsuits that are working their way to the Supreme Court.
The decision is no surprise given the stacked nature of the panel, as computers at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit that randomly selected the panel of three judges from the appeals court to conduct oral hearings on the legal debate surrounding the law picked three judges from a evenly-divided court who are all Democrats. All three judges listening to two legal challenges were appointed by Democrats Judge Diana Motz, the senior member of the panel, is a Clinton appointee while Judges Andre Davis and James Wynn were appointed by Obama.
The three judges dismissed the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the national health care law s individual mandate by saying the state lacked the standing to sue. As a result of the decision, the panel did not delve into the merits of the case itself and whether the Obama administration has the Constitutional ability to compel citizens to purchase health care, which could pay for abortions with taxpayer funds and include rationing. The judges disagreed with Virginia s contention that it was an injured party because it passed a law before Obamacare making it so Virginia residents are not required to purchase health care insurance.
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli issues a statement responding to the decision saying he is disappointed by it and planned to appeal it to the full federal appeals court. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/appeals-court-panel-dismisses-virginia-obamacare-lawsuit/
Obama Admin May Give $1.8M to Planned Parenthood in New Hampshire
In the wake of a decision by the New Hampshire Executive Council to revoke a $1.8 million grant to the Planned Parenthood abortion business for family planning, the Obama administration may reinstate the funding.
Last month, the health department in New Hampshire said it would not reinstate $1.8 million in taxpayer funding revoked earlier this summer by the Executive Council, which voted on June 22 to revoke the contract starting July 1. Since then, according to a Keene Sentinel report, the pro-abortion organization has been cutting back, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England spokeswoman Jennifer L. Frizzell says.
The abortion business has been engaging in a statewide lobbying campaign to get the Executive Council to reconsider the vote but the Concord Monitor newspaper indicated the state health commissioner says he has no plans to reinstate the tax financing. Today, N.H. Health and Human Services Commissioner Nick Toumpas informed the council that the Obama administration is taking over the awarding of federal family planning grants and taking control of the recipient decision-making process New Hampshire had.
We believe, but have no formal communication that these activities will take no more than a week, Toumpas said, according to the Nashua Telegraph newspaper. He added that he expected Planned Parenthood to be awarded the grant. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/obama-admin-may-give-1-8m-to-planned-parenthood-in-new-hampshire/
Florida County Yanks $500K for Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
A Florida county has voted to revoke $500,000 in taxpayer funding to the Planned Parenthood abortion business. After significant pro-life lobbying, the Children s Services Council Taxing Authority (CSC) stopped funding Planned Parenthood after sending the abortion giant millions of dollars over the years.
America s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood (PP) was axed Thursday by yet another tax funded agency, said Bryan Longworth, who has been helping to lead the charge. The latest government entity to ditch the embattled abortion giant was the St. Lucie County Children s Services Council (CSC), an independent taxing authority in Florida, which has funded Planned Parenthood with grants totaling nearly $4 million since 2002.
Planned Parenthood proved to be too controversial of an organization to continue funding and has needlessly tarnished the good name of the Children s Services Council. I support most of the organizations funded by the Children s Services Counsel and rejoice to see the CSC free to carry out it s mission without the baggage that comes with funding Planned Parenthood, he added.
Members of the council directed the Planned Parenthood funding to other agencies, and voted unanimously for $220,000 to Kids Connected by Design for its Healthy Decision Making Program and $188,550 to the St. Lucie County Boys and Girls Club for its after school/summer programs, according to WPTV.
Cory Neering, the vice president of education for Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast, told the television station he wasn t sure whether Planned Parenthood would be able to keep open the same hours as it is currently. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/florida-county-yanks-500k-for-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz/
Planned Parenthood Again Attacks Rick Perry on Abortion
For the second time in a week, the Planned Parenthood abortion business has emailed its members asking them to complain to Texas governor and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry about his pro-life advocacy.
Planned Parenthood sent a fundraising email to its members over the weekend attacking Perry. To ensure its members know Perry doesn t support Planned Parenthood s agenda, the fundraising email contains slammed Perry and his pro-life record and urged its membership to send him an email through its lobbying web site complaining about Perry s pro-life accomplishments.
The new email also urges abortion advocates to complain to Perry and it includes new attacks on him for revoking taxpayer funding for the abortion business and signing a bill into law allowing women a chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn child before an abortion.
Texas Governor Rick Perry has taken things too far in Texas. He s attacking Planned Parenthood and blocking women s access to health care and it s up to us to stop him, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards says in the email. I m appalled by what is happening in my home state. Governor Rick Perry and the Texas legislature have launched a relentless assault on Planned Parenthood. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/planned-parenthood-again-attacks-rick-perry-on-abortion/

Catholic Bishops Back Bill to Fix Conscience Gaps in Obamacare
The nation s Catholics bishops are supporting legislation in Congress that would close the gaps in protecting conscience rights for religious employers that don t want to pay for abortion drugs or birth control under the Obamacare law.
In a new letter to members of Congress, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, the head of the pro-life office of the Catholic bishops, told lawmakers to support a bill (H.R. 1179, S. 1467) that will close gaps in protection of conscience rights in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. The measure would, in light of the threat to conscience rights posed by a new mandate from the Department of Health and Human Services, correct some of the problems with the law.
I urge you to support and co-sponsor the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act, to help preserve respect in federal law for the freedom to follow the dictates of one s conscience, wrote Cardinal DiNardo, chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
DiNardo noted that passage of the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act is more urgent now that HHS has mandated that all private insurance plans cover contraceptives and sterilization as well as drugs that can cause abortions, like ella. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/catholic-bishops-back-bill-to-fix-conscience-gaps-in-obamacare/
Republican Debate Marked by Absence of Pro-Life Issues
The Republican debate last night featured intense discussions among the candidates seeking the GOP nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, but failed include any talk of pro-life issues.
Although the candidates gave their positions and attack each other s views on political topics ranging from the economy and jobs to national defense and terrorism, the MSNBC and Politico moderates failed to ask the candidates any key questions about social issues, including the topic of abortion.
After the debate, pro-life former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum appeared on Hardball with Chris Matthews and decried the lack of focus on social issues. Ironically, Matthews tried to blame Santorum for the lack of attention to pro-life matters, saying, No Republican on that stage really, including you, really wanted to focus on those hard social moral issues.
Santorum objected, saying he and other Republicans were never asked the questions and that he received only a handful of questions compared to Republican frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/republican-debate-marked-by-absence-of-pro-life-issues/
Pro-Life Youth Can t Vote But Can Do Much to Stop Abortion
I heard it all the time in high school, and I hear it from younger students all the time now: I m pro-life, but I can t vote yet. My immediate response is so what!
Voting for pro-life candidates is but a fraction of our responsibilities as pro-lifers. Young people are vital to the movement because we represent the future, and there is so much more to our activism than simply voting pro-life when election seasons come around. We need middle and high school students standing up and being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Don t ever think that being too young to vote hinders you from educating others, helping pregnant women in need, or possibly saving a life.
Since being pro-life means so much more than just voting for pro-life candidates, we have to act pro-life on a daily basis. So what can a middle or high-school age student do? This list consists of just a few ideas that students can do to spread awareness about abortion, even if they re unable to vote. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/09/08/pro-life-youth-cant-vote-but-can-do-much-to-stop-abortion/
