Dear Friends For Life, International Pressure for Abortion - [United Nations: Health Includes Abortion] The recent interim report of the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations' Human Rights Council on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health demonstrates the increasing manipulation of UN agencies, committees and offices to advance the lie that abortion is an internationally recognized right. Special rapporteur Anand Grover presented the report to the delegates of the UN Third Committee which focused on "the interaction between criminal laws and other legal restrictions relating to sexual and reproductive health and the right to health." The report stridently declared, "The right to sexual and reproductive health is a fundamental part of the right to health. States must therefore ensure that this aspect of the right to health is fully realized."
Grover defended the latest report during objections from a number of country delegates including Chile, Honduras, Egypt, Swaziland and the Holy See which rightly stated that no international right to abortion exists. The report classifies pro-life laws and legal restrictions on abortion as "often discriminatory in nature, violate the right to health by restricting access to quality goods, services and information." The report labeled abortion restrictions as "impermissible barriers to the realization of women's right to health" and called for pro-life laws to be eliminated claiming these laws "infringe women's dignity and autonomy by severely restricting decision-making by women in respect of their sexual and reproductive health."
The abuse of the position of Special Rapporteur of the United Nations' Human Rights Council is an affront to a majority of UN countries which prohibit or restrict abortion. Their sovereign laws which protect the life and health of children in the womb and their mothers from the violence of abortion are depicted by Grover as reinforcing "the stigma that abortion is an objectionable practice." The stigma against abortion will continue to exist as long as women and men, mothers and fathers around the world continue to find the willful destruction of a child in the womb to be appaling.
The member states of the United Nations would best be served by a rapporteur on health who was concerned with the enjoyment of health by all members of the human family, including the most defenseless members -- children in the womb.
God Bless,
Fr. Jerry, OMI
(A Thought) Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German Lutheran Pastor, Theologian, and Martyr, who served in the German Resistance movement, between 1933 and 1945, against Nazism, once said: "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act." Could it possibly be, that Dietrich Bonhoeffer is right and our "silence in the face of evil" betrays our collusion, complicity or tacit consent with the forces of evil?

(Focus on Asia): "BURMA: Draft land law denies basic rights to farmers" - It invites takeover of land with government authorization for the purpose of practically any activity, not merely for other forms of cultivation. Under the draft, farmers could be evicted to make way for the construction of polluting factories, power lines, roads and railways, pipelines, fun parks, condominiums and whatever else government officials claim to be in "the national interest".

ITEM #1: How Parents Can Defeat Pornography
Parents have two main missions when it comes to pornography. To borrow a phrase from C.S. Lewis, they must cut down jungles and irrigate deserts. First, cutting down jungles. The main protection against pornography is defense. Parents must tear down gateways to pornography and prevent kids from encountering it in the first place.

ITEM #2: Shortage of women due to sex-selective abortion in India giving rise to 'wife-sharing'
A recent study estimated that up to 12 million selective abortions of girls have occurred in India in the past three decades.

ITEM #3: Internet porn is a poison seeping through society. We can - and must - stop its spread
There can be little doubt that the ponographic images found online literally corrupt a person's imagination, and influence one's behaviour. In other words, one 'moves from observer to participator' as a result of one's relentless trawling of hard-core sites.

ITEM #4: The World's 7-Billionth Baby Is A Gift, Not A Problem
Though it's almost impossible to predict when the world's population hit seven billion, demographers at the United Nations have decided that today is the day. Around the world the milestone has provoked some interesting reactions. On the one hand, hospitals are welcoming babies with lavish ceremonies all day today. However the milestone has also roused the ire of alarmists. Instead of celebrating the seven billionth baby, they warn, we should lament this burgeoning population, an explosion that will eventually crush The Beloved Earth under the weight of our gluttonous consumption. But is that really true?

ITEM #5: The Next Death-With-Dignity Battleground
Comment: Apparently, no "health" writer at the NYT can be against euthanasia/assisted suicide. Ironically, the NYT is against the death penalty by lethal injection because it is considered barbaric and inhumane, even when the convicted say they want to die. And, of course, the Catholic Church is consistently portrayed as the virtually only euthanasia opponent! -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #6: Dutch Doctors Expanding Euthanasia to "Lonely" People
The Dutch Medical Association is seeking to expand the practice of Euthanasia in the Netherlands to include more people under the "unbearable suffering" that allows physicians to kill patients and the elderly.

ITEM #7 World population: quality over quantity
The planet is far from being overpopulated, but any fears and efforts should focus not so much on how many we are, but on how we live.

ITEM #8: World Contraception Day: empowering whom?
Advocates of abortion and birth control often speak of "empowering women" with unbiased and vital information about reproductive health, but their silence following the most recent warning from the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) calls into question the nature of their concern for women's health.

ITEM #9: Cloning Takes a Giant Step Forward: The Dubious Advance of Modern Science
For those concerned about the exploitation of human embryos, the announcement deserves the harshest censure possible. Creating disabled human life and then destroying it in order to devise ways to assist human healing is a bad means to a good end: a radical injustice to the victimized embryos, further unraveling of our community's respect for the good of life, and degrading of the moral characters of the researchers who do such deeds.

The Radiance Foundation and the National Black Prolife Coalition have released a new YouTube music video that outs Planned Parenthood's sidekick in black genocide, the Guttmacher Institute.
