Top Komen Official Quit Over Planned Parenthood Funding Cut
One of Komen s top officials reportedly quit in December when the nation s biggest breast cancer charity made the decision to cut more than $600,000 in funding to the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

News about Komen s decision surfaced publicly this week and it has prompted a firestorm of controversy with pro-life advocates applauding Komen and abortion backers denigrating the breast cancer organization for denying funding to an abortion business that doesn t provide mammograms and merely performs the standard breast exam women ca do on their own or get at any legitimate health center.

According to The Atlantic, the decision caused an uproar inside Komen and the organization s top public health official, Mollie Williams, resigned in protest immediately following the Komen board s decision to cut off Planned Parenthood.

Williams served Komen as its managing director of community health programs and was responsible for directing $93 million in annual grants. She would not comment to The Atlantic reporter about either her decision to quit or the controversy surrounding the decision itself. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/top-komen-official-quit-over-planned-parenthood-funding-cut/

Komen Defends Planned Parenthood De-Funding Decision
In a new statement issued today, Komen for the Cure is defending its decision to revoke funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business which has drawn universal praise from pro-life organizations.

We are dismayed and extremely disappointed that actions we have taken to strengthen our granting process have been widely mischaracterized. It is necessary to set the record straight, Komen said about the intensely negative reaction Planned Parenthood has given the decision to its members and the media.

Starting in 2010, Komen began an initiative to help us do a better job of measuring the impact of community grants. This is important because we invest significant dollars in our local community programs $93 million in 2011, which provided for 700,000 breast health screenings and diagnostic procedures, the new statement says. Following this review, we made the decision to implement stronger performance criteria for our grantees to minimize duplication and free up dollars for direct services to help vulnerable women. To support this new granting strategy, Komen has also implemented more stringent eligibility standards to safeguard donor dollars. Consequently, some organizations are no longer eligible to receive Komen grants. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/01/komen-defends-planned-parenthood-de-funding-decision/

Komen Also Stops Funding Embryonic Stem Cell Research Centers
In addition to stopping funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business, Komen for the Cure has also quietly stopped funding embryonic stem cell research centers, another concern for pro-life advocates.

As LifeNews reported last July, Karen Malec of the Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer spent time examining Komen s 990 Forms for the IRS for 2010 and she found that Komen has active relationships with at least five research groups or educational facilities that engage in embryonic stem cell research, which requires the destruction of unborn children in their earliest days for stem cells that have yet to help any patients.

The return showed donations from Komen totaling $3.75 million to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, $4.5 million to the University of Kansas Medical Center, $1 million to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, $1 million to the Society for Women s Health Research, and $600,000 to Yale University. All of them have embryonic stem cell research programs. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/01/komen-also-stops-funding-embryonic-stem-cell-research-centers/

Komen for the Cure Web Site Hacked by Pro-Abortion Activists
Following its decision by Komen for the Cure to withdraw funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business, the breast cancer organization has been deluged by pro-abortion criticism led by the abortion business itself.

Pro-abortion activists have flooded its email account and Facebook and Twitter accounts with hate mail, but one pro-abortion zealot unhappy the organization is renewing its focus on protecting and helping women hacked its web site and changed a message on its front page. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/komen-for-the-cure-web-site-hacked-by-pro-abortion-activists/

Pelosi: Girl Scout Relationship With Planned Parenthood Valuable
Reporters from CNS News caught up with pro-abortion House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who said the relationship the Girl Scouts has with the Planned Parenthood abortion business is very valuable.

The comment is telling and comes at a time when the Girl Scouts are denying any relationships with the biggest abortion business in the Untied States.

Pelosi was featured at a congressional reception to mark the 100th anniversary of the organization. The event was organized to promote the Girl Scout s new initiative To Get Her There, which looks to create a gender balanced leadership in the next generation.

CNSNews.com asked Pelosi: The Girl Scouts has had some ties to Planned Parenthood, do you think that s a valuable relationship to have working together? http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/pelosi-girl-scout-relationship-with-planned-parenthood-valuable/

Planned Parenthood TV Ads Defend Obama s Attack on Catholics
The Planned Parenthood abortion business is defending President Barack Obama s decision to put in place a mandate forcing religious employers to pay for insurance coverage for their employees that covers birth control or drugs that may cause abortions.

The Obama Administration issued a statement re-iterating the contraceptive mandate requiring all insurance providers cover the full range of FDA-approved drugs and devices would remain intact. This mandate, issued in August, includes drugs that work after conception to destroy life rather than prevent it. The statement included a postponement of one year for religious groups that do not already carry contraceptives and additionally would not be exempted under last year s narrow definition of religious employer.

Although pro-life and faith groups of various stripes strongly oppose the mandate, the Catholic Church and pro-life Catholic groups have taken the lead in opposing it.

Planned Parenthood pressed for the mandate to ensure such coverage under Obamacare and is now launching a national television campaign praising it.: http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/02/planned-parenthood-tv-ads-defend-obamas-attack-on-catholics/

Planned Parenthood: We ve Raised $400K Since Komen Decision
The Planned Parenthood abortion business claims it has raised $400,000 since Komen for the Cure made its decision to cut hundreds of thousands of dollars from the abortion giant due to a change in grant-making policies.

The abortion business said late today that it received more than $400,000 from 6,000 donors in the 24 hours following the news that Komen had made the decision last month to end Planned Parenthood funding. Andrea Hagelgans, a Planned Parenthood spokeswoman, told AP the abortion business appreciated the support from its members.

People respond powerfully when they see politics interfering with women s health, she said. These donations will continue to help expand Planned Parenthood s critical health care services nationwide, especially those affiliates impacted by the Komen cuts.

Shortly after the decision, Planned Parenthood, in an email to its supporters, is putting the blame squarely on pro-life groups, saying Komen revoked the funding because pro-life advocates hate women. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/01/planned-parenthood-weve-raised-400k-since-komen-decision/

Rubio Senate Bill Would Repeal Obama Anti-Conscience Mandate
Senator Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican, has filed legislation in the Senate to repeal a new ObamaCare mandate that violates the religious liberties and conscience rights of faith-based institutions by forcing them to offer employees insurance coverage for contraceptives, birth control or drugs that can cause abortions. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/02/01/rubio-senate-bill-would-repeal-obama-anti-conscience-mandate/
