The election will not change a thing

For those of you not living under a rock, you know that the U.S. is about to elect a new president on November 4th. Abortion has been a big issue in the campaign, but that leads us to worry that many Americans are viewing it as just that - an issue. Abortion is not just an issue, and its not just a talking point; its not just a way to score votes, and its not a way to raise money. Abortion is the intentional and violent ending of an innocent human person's life, and we MUST remember that.

Rock for Life is not endorsing or supporting any candidate in the presidential election, but we can guarantee you one thing - regardless who wins, we will not change our mission or tactics. We will continue to activate pro-life youth, aid them in educating their peers, mobilize a devoted movement of passionate and life-affirming young people, and equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to permanently and positively affect their generation. Our goal is total personhood and equality for preborn human beings, and that remains unchanged.

With this, Rock for Life is issuing a call for pro-life organizations and individuals to make plans for massive pro-life visibility at the presidential inauguration on January 20th in Washington, D.C. The world's media will be focused on Washington, D.C. that day, and we fully intend on showing the world that the pro-life advocates of America WILL NOT let presidential politics affect the direction of our movement. Our movement is growing, we are gaining ground, and we will continue to change hearts and minds. Rock for Life activists were a visible witness for life at the 2005 Inauguration, and held a protest at the White House to remind President Bush that pro-life activists would not remain complacent.

Let me know if you can make it or if you can support these efforts with your prayers or financial support. And make sure to leave your own thoughts here on the RFL blog.

Timberlake and Biel added to list of musicians and entertainers who advocate abortion

On Tuesday we released the following statement to the press:

Rock for Life added former boy-band-heartthrob and hip-hop-celebrity Justin Timberlake to its boycott list Oct. 14. Timberlake and his girlfriend, actress Jessica Biel, defended abortion access at a rally in Las Vegas Oct. 11.

"Nobody should be able to say what you can do with your body," Biel told cheering crowds at a Last Chance for Change rally "I give Jess the right to choose where we go to eat all the time," Timberlake added.

"Timberlake and Biel's defense of abortion is one of the most incoherent arguments I've ever heard," said Erik Whittington, national director of Rock for Life, a project of American Life League. "I would expect that rationale from a child brainwashed by their abortion-advocating parents. No wonder most Americans ignore Hollywood politics."

Rock for Life added Timberlake to the boycott list not only for this support for abortion, but also for the twisted logic used to justify his stance.

"What an outrageous excuse for advocating the slaughter of over 3,500 babies a day by abortion in the U.S. alone," Whittington said. "Where you go to dinner is a legitimate choice, but abortion leaves no choice for your dead child."

You can read about Justin and Jessica's statements at the rally here and watch the YouTube clips here and here.

Let us know what you think.

January's Training and Activism event

We've been planning a great number of additions to this year's Rock for Life Training and Activism event. No longer just a weekend, it will run from Wednesday, January 21 to Saturday, January 24. The March for Life is on that Thursday, and once again we will be distributing thousands of signs and hoisting high a massive banner declaring our support for preborn personhood.

Aside from our mobilization at the march itself, we will be working with other pro-life organizations to coordinate actions at Planned Parenthood, a memorial walk to the Supreme Court, a protest at the White House, and several other pro-life visibility actions. We are also committed to countering any and all events, rallies, and actions by abortion supporting organizations in Washington, D.C. that week. We have countered them before, and whether its been holding a two-story disruption of a Planned Parenthood fundraiser, facing off with anarchists, or co-opting the media that comes to cover NOW's annual rally in support of Roe v Wade, Rock for Life has shown we will not let the voices supporting abortion go unopposed.

Wednesday night is a pizza party, Thursday night is the big Rock for Life concert, and Wednesday and Friday will hold several workshops and seminars.

All events take place in or near:
The Liaison Capitol Hill
415 New Jersey Ave., NW
Washington, DC 20001

Most events are free and open to the public. Pizza party & Concert donations requested at the door to cover costs. The cost to stay with us at the Liaison hotel is only $50 per night per person. For only a $50 non-refundable deposit we can reserve a spot just for you at the Liaison Hotel. Stay tuned because soon we will have a registration form available for you to download. Until then keep checking back at the Rock for Life web site and reading our weekly emails.

Garrett at RFL Lancaster reports that he will be bringing several chapter members down, and numerous other chapters are working on plans to come on, including some RFL activists and supporters from as far away as California and Australia! This year's event is going to be the biggest yet, so make sure to plan on attending!

RFL Corpus Christi update

Early last week was the annual Life Chain, and several RFL chapters and supporters participated in their local communities. RFL Corpus Christi sent us a photo of the beginning of theirs, where over 100 people held life-affirming messages for two hours along a busy area roadway.

Later in the week, they tabled at and provided live music for the 19th Annual Celebration of Life Banquet. The banquet raises funds for local pregnancy resource centers, and over 300 pro-life advocates were in attendance as Revelation 101 rocked out. The following night, the band played another benefit show to a crowd of young pro-lifers.

Chapter director Jeremy Puente reports that they are now working to gather funds for a trip to the Rock for Life Training and Activism event in Washington. D.C. For several years, Jeremy and others from the chapter have crammed into a vehicle and driven over 26 hours to Washington, D.C. If this band of young activists from hot and steamy Corpus Christi can drive over a full day to the cold and (sometimes) snowy Training and Activism event, then most of you can too!

Great work, RFL Corpus Christi!

40 Days for Life

It has been confirmed that 268 lives were saved from abortion during the first twenty days of the latest 40 Days for Life campaign, and 2,004 pro-life activists took part in the latest organizing conference call. The 40 Days for Life campaign is the largest protest movement currently operating in the US this fall, and Planned Parenthood has taken notice. Make sure to get involved in your local campaign!
