Obama Executive Orders Will Force Abortion, Embryonic Stem Cell Funding
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Members of the team Barack Obama has put together confirmed over the weekend that the incoming president will immediately overturn executive orders President Bush put in place as soon as possible after he takes office. The Bush orders have protected taxpayers on key pro-life issues. The advisors confirm the concerns pro-life advocates had during the presidential election campaign. They indicated Obama would overturn a Bush policy that prevents forcing taxpayers to fund groups that perform or promote abortions in other countries. Known as the Mexico City Policy and first instituted during the Reagan administration, President Bush expanded the policy to make sure no State Department funding goes to the pro-abortion groups. Obama would also overturn President Bush's policy against funding any new embryonic stem cell research. Put in place in August 2001, the policy prevents taxpayers from paying for new embryonic research that involves the destruction of human life. Bush directed most of the public funding for the science to adult stem cells, which are more ethical and have proven more effective than their embryonic counterparts. The Washington Post reports that the transition team members are working with top special interest groups and leading pro-abortion members of Congress on prioritizing the executive orders that Obama will reverse. Florida Woman Rejects Abortion But Kills Baby in Infanticide After Birth
Fountain, FL (LifeNews.com) -- A Florida woman has been arrested in the death of her newborn child. Stephanie Collins, 26, suffocated her son with a pillow on November 1, after giving birth to him secretly, and then threw his body in the garbage. The child was discovered by Collins' grandmother. According to the Bay County sheriff's department, the woman had a previous abortion and did not want to get another, and had hid her pregnancy from her family. Deputies told reporters that she knew about Florida's Safe Baby Act, which would have let her leave the child at any state-designated facility such as a hospital or fire station, without reprisal, but that she had ultimately decided to "stick with her original plan." Collins will be charged for murder, according to detectives.
Project Rachel Chapter Expands to Men, They Need Post-Abortion Help Too
St. Louis, MO (LifeNews.com) -- The Project Rachel chapter in the Archdiocese of St. Louis is planning to expand its services for post-abortive parents to men, following an eye-opening conference in Chicago this September. "The men are left out of the mix, and so my interest for a lot of reasons is seeing what I can do to help men who have experienced this and offer some healing," said Deacon John Wainscott of Annunziata Parish in Ladue, Missouri. "Our hope is that we can assure them there is absolution for a contrite heart and access to a priest so they can begin healing," Wainscott continued. "We want to go out in the community and meet men and draw them into the office to help them with healing." Project Rachel and its many chapters will continue to offer their post-abortion counseling services to women, including retreats, spiritual direction, and counseling. The Reclaiming Fatherhood conference took place on September 8-9 in Chicago, and was organized by the Knights of Columbus and the National Office of Post-Abortion Reconciliation and Healing. "As an organization of lay men that has a strong history and commitment to life, we think it is very important to highlight the issues faced by those fathers whose children are aborted," Supreme Knight Carl Anderson told LifeNews.com. "There are three victims of every abortion, the child and both of his or her parents, and it is our hope that this conference will be the beginning of a ministry within the Church to these fathers, who grieve the death of their unborn child in isolation and silence."
