Abortion Activists Forget George Tiller Killed, Injured Women in Botched Abortions
Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- Since his shooting death last weekend, the mainstream media and abortion advocates have gone out of their way to paint late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller as a champion of women. However, their portrayal of Tiller neglects any mention of the women he killed or injured in botched abortions. While hundreds of pro-life groups have forcefully condemned alleged gunmanScott Roeder for killing Tiller, and, while his record presents no reason for his death, Tiller was anything but a protector of women's health. Perhaps the biggest blunder in Tiller's career of doing legal, and supposedly safe, abortions was the death of Christin Gilbert. Gilbert was a 19 year-old mentally disabled girl from Texas who was killed in a botched legal abortion done at Tiller's abortion business in Wichita in January 2005. After the botched abortion, Gilbert was rushed into the Wesley Medical Center ER, followed by Tiller moments later. She eventually died. Following Gilbert's death, the Kansas Board of Healing Arts, which regulates doctors in the state, refused to prosecute Tiller for killing Gilbert, saying he followed all state laws during the abortion procedure. Obama Admin Criticized for Ignoring Scott Roeder Vandalism Before Tiller Shooting
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In the aftermath of the shooting death of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller, some new reports are blaming the administration of President Barack Obama for not doing more to stop the shooting. FBI officials are facing accusations of failing to follow through sufficiently on tips staff from another Kansas abortion center gave them about alleged vandalism Scott Roeder committed prior to the Tiller homicide. Before the Sunday murder of Tiller, allegedly committed by gunman Scott Roeder, at his church, Roeder may have vandalized another abortion facility, the "Aid for Women." Using a pseudonym, Jeffrey Pederson, an abortion center staffer appeared Wednesday night on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show and explained how FBI officials could have done more with tips they were given days and weeks before the shooting. On the morning of May 25, staff at the abortion business showed up to work to find their doors of their abortion center super-glued shut. When Pederson finally gained access to the building, he replaced the locks and notified the local police and FBI about what had happened. Pederson told MSNBC he wasn't able to identify Roeder, with whom he had had previous run-ins of vandalism, on the first viewing of the abortion center's security tapes. However, he was able to identify the alleged shooter the second time around. On May 28, he provided a copy of the videotape to the FBI. Full story at LifeNews.com
Watchdog Says Media Bias Evident in Coverage of Killing of Abortion Practitioner
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading media watchdog says media bias is clearly evident in the mainstream media's coverage of the shooting death of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller. Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center points out that many outlets have condemned pro-life advocates. Others, Bozell says, have gone out of their way to interview abortion advocates or find obscure or even anonymous people who are supposedly pro-life and applaud the Tiller killing. "The national media had zero interest in spotlighting a pro-life spokesman expressing horror, because let's face it, they don't believe it," Bozell says in a new editorial. "Instead, as with ABC, they found anonymous citizens on the web site Twitter saying 'Oh, happy, day. Tiller the baby killer is dead.'" Bozell points to several media outlets where the majority of Americans who are pro-life didn't get a fair shake. Keith Olbermann started his MSNBC program with these words: "A religious jihad by fundamentalist crusaders who believe that murder is justified, their acts of violence having the intended effect of changing behavior." Bozell explains: "He was referring to conservative politicians and bloggers and the Fox News Channel. Olbermann insisted there was a 'straight line' of culpability" from pro-life advocates to alleged gunman Scott Roeder despite the fact he has no affiliations with any pro-life groups. New Medical Study Shows More Premature Babies Surviving, Living Longer
Stockholm, Sweden (LifeNews.com) -- Researchers in Sweden have published a new study showing survival chances have greatly improved for premature babies. The news comes at a time when the United States is grappling with the murder of an abortion practitioner to ended the lives of these babies in late-term abortions. Dr. Karel Marsal of Lund University Hospital and colleagues published their findings in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. They found that approximately 70 percent of the babies born alive between 22 and 26 weeks gestation in Sweden now survive past the age of one thanks to advances in modern medicine. On the down side, the authors say more must be done because half of the babies who survived experienced serious health problems. The researchers examined the birth of all infants born before 27 weeks gestation in Sweden from 2004-2007 and found the overall perinatal mortality or death rate was 45%. That means 55 percent of the 1,011 babies survived who were born at or before that stage of pregnancy. Full story at LifeNews.com

Tennessee Votes Next Week on Cutting Funds to Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
Nashville, TN (LifeNews.com) -- The Tennessee legislature is expected to vote next week on state budgets bills with an amendment that would cut funding to the Planned Parenthood abortion business. As the legislature reaches its time wall, Planned Parenthood is still in line to receive more than $1.1 million tax dollars. Rep. Joey Hensley, and Sen. Jack Johnson, both Republicans, are sponsoring their respective budget bills, House Bill 1756 and Senate Bill 470, that are drawing support from Tennessee Right to Life. The bills are scheduled for committee hearings in the House Budget Subcommittee on Monday and Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday. Right to Life spokesman Ed Albin told LifeNews.com the current language in the bills "provide the opportunity for our tax dollars to fund women's health programs through local public health departments rather than controversial organizations such as Planned Parenthood which perform and promote abortion." ACTION: Go to this web site to ask your members of the Tennessee legislature to vote for the budgets and cutting Planned Parenthood funds. Full story at LifeNews.com
Louisiana Pro-Life Advocates Stop ERA Bill, Could Force Tax-Funded Abortions
Baton Rouge, LA (LifeNews.com) -- In Louisiana, pro-life advocates were successful in persuading a legislative committee to vote against ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment. Although the pro-life community is strongly pro-women, they're concerned the bill could be used to force state residents to pay for abortions with their tax dollars. Louisiana Right to Life opposed SCR 7, an ERA bill to ratify the 1972 Equal Rights Amendment. "The ERA, since it has no abortion neutral language, can be used to invalidate pro-life laws and expand abortion," Right to Life director Ben Clapper tells LifeNews.com. A legislative panel defeated the Senate bill on a 3-2 vote, which Clapper appreciated. Full story at LifeNews.com

Scotland Figures Show Sexually Transmitted Diseases Up Despite Plan B Promotion
Edinburgh, Scotland (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates who promote the Plan B drug say that it will lead to a reduction in the number of abortions. Figures from Scotland have already shown that is not the case and, now, new numbers from the government there show that the number of sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise. Scotland is an area where the morning after pill has been promoted heavily and the government has made it available over the counter. Abortion advocates pressed hard for the FDA to allow non-prescription sales in the United States, too. Now, the Scottish government indicates the number of teenagers diagnosed with chlamydia has risen by 27% over the past four years. And the cases of the sexually transmitted infection among 10 to 15-year-olds increased from 249 to 318 between 2004 and 2008. Full story at LifeNews.com
