The following letter appeared in The Hill on December 8.
Cecile Richards President Planned Parenthood Federation of America 434 West 33rd Street New York, NY 10001
Dear Cecile:
Americans United for Life Action and Planned Parenthood are both lobbying Congress on the pending health care legislation. AUL Action is opposed to taxpayer-funded abortions and Planned Parenthood, of course, is working to ensure that abortion is funded in health care.
In the interest of full disclosure and transparency, I think we should both state how much we each stand to gain from passage of this legislation.
I'll go first. None. Americans United for Life Action has no financial interest in this health care reform legislation.
Planned Parenthood is the world's largest abortion provider. Your non-profit organization has an annual budget in excess of $1 billion and posted an $85 million profit last year.
Planned Parenthood also received $350 million in federal funding in 2007. You would be included in the health care legislation under consideration as a community service provider.
A recent Harvard Business School case study revealed that despite these massive public subsidies, Planned Parenthood is still struggling financially.
This health care bill is an abortion business bailout. Cecile, the public deserves to know, how much exactly do you stand to gain from this bill?
Sincerely,
Charmaine Yoest, Ph.D. President and CEO Americans United for Life Action
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.
