Prediction: Republicans Will Pick Up 9 Seats in Senate for 50-50 Split
LifeNews.com is today predicting that Republicans will pick up nine seats in the Senate for a 50-50 split of the upper chamber of Congress.
Based on poling data, polling trends and the movement and momentum in the closing week of the campaigns, it appears the Senate will have a historic tie, which pro-abortion Vice President Joe Biden will be able to break.
GOP candidates will easily pick up seats in four states (Arkansas, Indiana, North Dakota, Wisconsin) and will win closer election victories in five more (Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Washington). They will also hold Alaska.
They will relinquish the ability to gain control of the Senate from their pro-abortion counterparts because they will fail to win in West Virginia and California.
Arkansas, Indiana and North Dakota are the three Senate seats where there is no question pro-life advocates will pick up votes. In Arkansas, John Boozman will easily defeat pro-abortion Blanche Lincoln, pro-life advocate Dan Coats will return to the Senate in Indiana, and North Dakota will see pro-life John Hoeven take over another pro-abortion seat.
Republicans will also retain seats in contests that were thought to be more competitive earlier in the year in Ohio (Bob Portman wins easily), Florida (Marco Rubio will represent pro-life Hispanics nationwide), Kentucky (Rand Paul, the son of Ron Paul, heads to the Senate), and New Hampshire (Kelly Ayotte is one of many pro-life women who will see victory).
Missouri and Wisconsin are also two races thought to be more competitive, but where pro-life GOP candidates are cruising to victory. Full story at LifeNews.com
Republicans Expected to Capture House, Pro-Lifers Winning for Governor
Republican candidates are expected to fare well tomorrow during the midterm Congressional and gubernatorial elections and both polling data and top political pundits are coming to the same conclusion.
The final USA Today/Gallup poll measuring the opinion of American voters in terms of the intention for Congress shows Republicans continuing to hold a substantial lead over Democrats among likely voters.
The lead is so large that Gallup says it is enough to suggest that regardless of turnout, the Republicans will win more than the 40 seats needed to give them the majority in the U.S. House.
Gallup s historical model suggests that a party needs at least a two-point advantage in the national House vote to win a majority of the 435 seats,"the polling firm said. "The Republicans current likely voter margin suggests that this scenario is highly probable, making the question of interest this election not whether the GOP will win the majority, but by how much. Taking Gallup s final survey s margin of error into account, the historical model predicts that the Republicans could gain anywhere from 60 seats on up, with gains well beyond that possible. 40 Days for Life Campaign Ends With 541 Babies Spared From Abortions
The number is a conservative estimate based on first-hand accounts of women the campaign has helped across the country, but organizers say they know of at least 541 babies spared from abortion thanks to the 40 Days for Life campaign.
The Fall campaign may have saved more lives, but organizer Shawn Carney is always ready to disclaimer his total because he knows unshared stories may results in lives saved that participants may never know.
It s Day 40 and I have great news to share! As of right now, we know of 541 babies and their mothers that God has spared from abortion, he emailed LifeNews.com on Sunday evening at the conclusion of the event.
That s at least 3,352 since the first coordinated 40 Days for Life campaign a mere three years ago. And who knows how many more that we ll never hear about. he said. Full story at LifeNews.com
Planned Parenthood Abortion Business Settles Medicaid Fraud Case
The state of Washington and the Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest have agreed on a settlement in a Medicaid fraud case that saw the abortion business routinely overcharge the state government.
Initial audits from Washington state officials showed Planned Parenthood wrongly overbilled the state $629,143 over a three-year period, according to the Associated Press.
However, the abortion business appealed the case and, on Friday, announced a settlement whereby it would not admit any incorrect billing, documentation or payment and Planned Parenthood will only repay $345,000 of the money it obtained.
AP indicates the findings were based on 333 abortions done between March 2004 to February 2007, a period which saw Washington state provide Planned Parenthood more than $7.6 million from Medicaid for abortions and birth control.
David Schmidt of the pro-life group Life Action, which monitors Planned Parenthood, commented on the settlement, calling it a dirty trick that paid off. Full story at LifeNews.com
Alaska Poll Shows Pro-Life Joe Miller Comeback Against Pro-Abortion Murkowski
The most recent poll from the state of Alaska finds pro-life Senate candidate Joe Miller coming back against pro-abortion candidates Lisa Murkowski and Scott McAdams.
Miller now holds a 37-30-30 percentage point lead in the controversial contest, according to a new survey from the PPP polling firm.
The poll was conducted on Saturday and Sunday, which is a difficult time to gauge the accuracy of a poll. But the timing is important because it comes as news surfaced showing a local CBS media outlet plotting to emphasize negative news coverage against Miller.
Miller is winning despite having the worst personal favorability numbers of the three candidates. Only 36% have a positive opinion of him while 59% view him in a negative light, the PPP firm noted. McAdams is by far the most popular with 50% rating him favorably to only 30% with an unfavorable one. Voters aren t very enamored with Murkowski either, giving her a 37/53 approval rating. Washington Senate: Final Polls Show Rossi-Murray Tossup
The final two polls in what is one of the most competitive Senate races in the nation show pro-life candidate Dino Rossi and pro-abortion Sen. Patty Murray each winning in the state of Washington.
Every time PPP, a Democratic polling firm, has conducted polls in the Washington Senate race this year it has found the race to be within two or three percent and its final poll is no exception. However, this time, for the first time, it shows Rossi leading Patty Murray, by a 50-48 margin.
Rossi is winning 93 percent of the Republican vote compared with Murray s winning 91% of Democrats. That means independents, as they are in so many races across the country, are making the difference for the GOP here. Rossi leads Murray with them by a 54-42 margin.
The most worrisome number for Murray within the poll, beyond her small overall disadvantage, is that, among voters who say they ve already returned their ballots, Rossi s advantage is wider at 52-47. Full story at LifeNews.com
Jewish Rabbis Join Catholic Official: Americans Should Vote Pro-Life
The Rabbinical Alliance of America, which represents more than 1,000 Jewish rabbis, has issued a pre-election statement saying it joins a top Catholic Church official in saying Americans must vote pro-life.
There can be no middle ground when it comes to the Sacred Laws, the Jewish teachers explained. Respect for all human life is obligatory. Now go out and spread the word and vote accordingly.
The collection of rabbis heaped great praise on Archbishop Raymond Burke, the Catholic official Pope Benedict recently named a cardinal and the pro-life religious leader who repeatedly made it clear that pro-abortion politicians should deny themselves communion until they reform their abortion views.
As Rabbis we welcome with great enthusiasm and strongly endorse the inspiring and clear Pro-life, Pro-family message delivered by American Cardinal-designate, Raymond L. Burke, Prefect of the Catholic Church s highest court, they said in a statement LifeNews.com received. Full story at LifeNews.com
Wisconsin: Pro-Life Ron Johnson Likely to Beat Pro-Abortion Russ Feingold
When the votes are counted in the Wisconsin Senate race, it appears likely that pro-life candidate Ron Johnson will have beaten incumbent pro-abortion Sen. Russ Feingold.
A McClatchy-Marist poll released Saturday shows Johnson leads Feingold by 7 percentage points among likely voters including early voters and those who are undecided yet leaning toward a candidate.
This data was collected from Tuesday through Thursday and it shows Johnson with a 52-45 percentage point lead.
Johnson gets the support of 95 percent of Republicans and 57 percent of independent voters while Feingold has the backing of 91 percent of Democrats and just 41 percent of independent voters. Full story at LifeNews.com

I m Voting for Real Social Justice
by Kristan Hawkins
Last week, Students for Life of America, announced our theme for the 2010-2011 school year, Social Justice. Within moments of pressing the send button, responses began pouring into my inbox.
The reaction is what we expected, students loved the theme and adults, well they were less enthusiastic about it. Some parents who rightly monitor their teenagers e-mail inboxes received the message. Without reading the content of my letter, the parents saw the title, and angrily wrote a response telling me how terrible Social Justice is, and how dare I e-mail their child to recruit them into this socialist work.
I expected this reaction from other generations, because they grew up in a different time than myself and those students I serve in Generation Y. Full story at LifeNews.com
New Hampshire Pro-Life Senate Candidate Kelly Ayotte Likely Winning
In what is the final poll in New Hampshire from Rasmussen Reports for the Senate race there, it appears pro-life candidate Kelly Ayotte, a Republican, is headed towards victory.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the Granite State finds Ayotte leading pro-abortion Democrat Paul Hodes 56-41 percent. Two percent favor another candidate and one percent of voters still remain undecided.
That is enough for pollster Scott Rasmussen to move the race to the Solid Republican category, meaning it is a virtual certainty Ayotte will win the race, according to the polling data.
Earlier this month, Ayotte led Hodes 51% to 44%. Ayotte has consistently held the lead over Hodes since early February, with support ranging from 46% to 56%. In that same time period, Hodes has earned 35% to 44% of the vote, Rasmussen noted. Full story at LifeNews.com
Several months ago, Steven Ertelt contacted me about writing a weekly column for LifeNews.com. After some unavoidable delays in getting this newest project off the ground, I am honored to finally join Steven and the talented staff here at LifeNews.com.
The objective of this column flows from the mission of my blog, Coming Home, (http://gerardnadal.com) and the career path that I have taken as a scientist, which is to bring to light the abundance of scientific data that refute the most cherished of the Culture of Death s most sacred institutions. Abortion, contraception, in vitro fertilization, embryonic stem cell research all strike at human dignity and lead to unimaginable levels of disease, death and human misery.
I m an unapologetic Roman Catholic Christian, loyal to my Church s teaching authority as articulated by her Bishops. For this I am pilloried by the opposition, who claim such respect and obedience a fundamental impediment to my being able to approach the scientific literature objectively. Full story at LifeNews.com
Canadian Parliament Starts Debate Today on Bill to Stop Forced Abortions
The Canadian Parliament starts debate today on a bill that would make it a criminal offence to coerce a pregnant woman into having an abortion.
Roxanne s Law (Bill C-510) receives its first reading today and it would protect women who do not want to have an abortion but are feeling pressured by a husband, partner, family or employer to do so.
There is no reason that this legislation should not become law but some politicians will conclude that this is a ploy by the pro-life movement to ban abortions, the pro-life group Priests for Life Canada said. Obviously, this bill does not do that, it simply protects pregnant women against coercion.
The legislation is named after Roxanne Fernando, who moved to Canada from the Philippines in 2003. Full story at LifeNews.com
