BirthorNot Couple Says Abortion Vote Web Site Not a Hoax
The couple at the center of the attention of the BirthOrNot abortion vote website in what many are calling an elaborate hoax, says the vote about her potential abortion is legitimate.
Pete and Alisha Arnold set up the web site, which has received worldwide attention and subjected them to claims of creating a ruse designed to oppose abortion, to receive input on whether or not to have an abortion of a 17-week unborn baby.

A poll on the site asks simply, Should we give birth or have an abortion?

While both pro-life and pro-abortion bloggers say the web site is a hoax and use information about Pete Arnold s background as a conservative political activist to make the case, Alisha tells the Pioneer Press newspaper it is legitimate and the couple has no hidden agenda or were not looking for publicity and attention.
I didn t think it would go anywhere, Alisha Arnold said. There are so many websites out there.

Alisha told the newspaper that she has not had an appointment with an abortion business but would if it s looking like it s going to be that way we will definitely be looking into it and setting something up if we need to. Full story at LifeNews.com

Couple s Abortion Vote Site Declared a Pro-Life Publicity Stunt
The web site a Minnesota couple created seeking a public vote on whether or not they should have an abortion, taking the life of their 17-week unborn child, has been declared a pro-life stunt by both sides of the abortion debate.

The web site called BirthorNot.com has received worldwide attention with both pro-life and pro-abortion people flabbergasted that someone would leave a life and death decision up to the general public.

Although some readers of their web are taking the couple s claims at face value and voting in droves to ensure they don t have an abortion, pro-life nurse and blogger Jill Stanek is one of the skeptics.

Although the posts appeared plausible when I perused them, the concept had scam written all over it. So I didn t buy in. My thought was the couple was trying to punk pro-lifers, she writes in a NewsBusters post about the web site. The reaction has been most interesting. Pro-choicers think this is a scam against them. Now, while pro-lifers are becoming incensed and begging the couple not to abort, pro-choicers are becoming incensed and wanting the couple to be shot.

Stanek says the detailed descriptions of the development of the unborn child and the couple s posting of ultrasound pictures lead her to believe the couple is pro-life and using the web site and the attention to show the absurdity of abortion.

I ve come to agree this is a pro-life stunt. A pro-choicer, unless a real sicko, would not go into this sort of detail about the 16-week development of the baby she may abort, Stanek says. Full story at LifeNews.com

Dozens of Members of Congress File Legal Brief Backing ObamaCare Lawsuit
Dozens of members of Congress and more than 70,000 Americans are represented in a new legal brief filed by a pro-life legal group supporting the lawsuit in Florida against ObamaCare.

The American Center for Law and Justice today filed an amicus brief with a federal court in Florida on behalf of 63 members of Congress in support of Florida s lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the federal health care law.

The Florida brief is the ACLJ s latest effort, which includes backing Virginia s legal challenge and a lawsuit of its own, contending the individual mandate forcing Americans to purchase health insurance violates the Constitution.

The health care law is not only the wrong prescription for the nation, it s a constitutionally flawed measure that we believe ultimately will be rejected by the courts and the American people, said Jay Sekulow, the legal group s chief counsel.

The requirement forcing Americans to purchase health insurance under penalty of law represents an unprecedented expansion of federal power which threatens individual liberty, he told LifeNews.com. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Groups Want Pitts to Chair Health Subcommittee if Upton is Chairman
The debate over Congressman Fred Upton becoming the next chairman of the House Energy and Commerce committee has taken a new turn as pro-life groups are pressing for input on a key subcommittee.

Upton has come under fire from both pro-life organizations and fiscal conservative groups because his is weak on both issues and they want someone else to head the important committee that will lead the fight to repeal or water down ObamaCare.

Connie Hair of Human Events recently highlighted Upton s weak voting record on pro-life issues, but he is still seen as the likely new chairman of the committee.

Should he assume leadership of the panel, two pro-life groups say they want a respected pro-life congressman to lead the Subcommittee on Health, which would start any dismantling of ObamaCare or its provisions allowing abortion funding and rationing.

Yesterday, the National Right to Life Committee sent a letter to members of the House Republican Steering Committee, which makes the decisions on committee and subcommittee chairs, saying pro-life advocates want pro-life Rep. Joe Pitts of Pennsylvania as the head of the subcommittee. Full story at LifeNews.com

Mike Huckabee Considers 2012 Presidential Bid, If He Can Win
Mike Huckabee, the pro-life advocate who ran for president in 2008 and is the former Arkansas governor, says he will put together a presidential campaign for 2012 if he sees a pathway to victory.

Huckabee told WHO radio in Des Moines, Iowa, where he won the 2008 presidential caucus vote, that he would consider running if he thought he could capture the nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

I m not ruling it out. And that s not a yes, but it s definitely not a no, Huckabee told WHO s Steve Deace.

The honest answer is: I m keeping it open as an option, I m looking at whether or not there s a pathway to victory, he added. As I ve told several people, I m not jumping into a pool when there s no water in it.

While he ponders running, Huckabee is laying the foundation necessary for a presidential bid by speaking to important organizations in the first presidential battleground. On Sunday, he will deliver a speech at the Iowa Family Policy Center s Celebrate the Family event. Full story at LifeNews.com

Catholic Backer of Pro-Abortion Obama to Attend Cardinal Burke s Designation
In what is an intriguing irony for pro-life Catholic activists, President Barack Obama announced yesterday the official delegation representing him at a ceremony elevating two American Archbishops to Cardinals.

Obama will send Miguel Diaz, the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, as the lead delegate for the White House to the ceremony.

Diaz was a staunch defender of then-candidate Barack Obama despite his radical pro-abortion positions that violate the teachings of the Catholic Church. He will attend the elevation of Archbishop Raymond Burke, who has been one of the most outspoken Catholic leaders on the issue of pro-abortion politicians.

Vatican Chief Justice Archbishop Raymond Burke, formerly Archbishop of St. Louis, Missouri, will be honored with membership in the College of Cardinals, as designated by Pope Benedict XVI.

Diaz, who was a theology professor at St. John s University and the College of Saint Benedict in Collegeville, Minnesota before becoming ambassador, is reportedly pro-life but he served as a member of Obama s Catholic advisory board during his presidential campaign. Full story at LifeNews.com

Bush s Recalling Embryonic Stem Cell Decision Reminds of Its Strength
I just read President Bush s chapter in his new book on how he came to his ESCR funding policy.
It was very interesting, particularly since I was tangentially engaged in the effort to impact the policy and later, repeatedly defended his decision.

The ESCR issue was the first major Bush controversy, beginning shortly after he took office when he rescinded President Clinton s stem cell funding executive order, then about to take effect which was close to what Obama followed eight years later and announced that he was going to undertake a period of contemplation and consultation.

I strived (from afar) to influence his thinking by writing articles in conservative journals apparently with some success. In talking at the time to people who were much closer to and more directly involved in the situation, I had the sense that the president was deeply conflicted. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood, NARAL Bash Pro-Life Push for Joe Pitts
The abortion lobby has come out in full force this afternoon bashing the pro-life push for Joe Pitts to head the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health.

The National Right to Life Committee and the Susan B. Anthony List both are pushing for Pitts to chair the panel if Rep. Fred Upton, who has a weak pro-life voting record, becomes the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee.

The battle is important because the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Health subcommittee will have jurisdiction over any efforts to repeal, weaken, de-fund, or remove the abortion funding components of the ObamaCare law. Full story at LifeNews.com

Alveda King: Pro-Life Movement Must Out-Hustle Abortion Lobby s Big Money
With the 2010 elections behind us and the Pro-Life Movement having such a great success in the number of Pro-Life candidates who were elected into office in local and national races, it s time to take a short relaxing break, okay that s it, and get back to work for the 2012 agenda.

A couple of years ago the Holy Spirit put it on my heart that I should stay away from politics in the public arena as my calling is Pro-Life work, especially fighting to end abortion and helping those who have been harmed by abortion to find healing and forgiveness.

As such, I focus on, not endorsing any political party or candidate, but rather, on praying for good and righteous men and women to run for office who are willing to stand up for the unborn and against abortion, the greatest evil of our times.

According to a Los Angeles Times article, more than 100 wealthy Democrats gathered . . . for a closed meeting in which participants repeatedly called for Obama [to] be more aggressive in his agenda and tactical combat with the Republican right. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Debate: Repeal ObamaCare or Just Fix Abortion Funding
Two pro-life thinkers are engaged in a heady debate about whether to repeal abortion-funding ObamaCare or merely fix the law to stop its abortion-funding components.
Richard Stith, a professor of law at Valparaiso University School of Law, initially argued at the Catholic blog first Things that the ObamaCare law ought to be kept in place because it provides health care coverage for those who don t have it, but said it should be modified to stop abortion funding. Scotland Again Rejects Bid to Legalize Assisted Suicide
The Scottish Parliament, the devolved national, unicameral legislature of Scotland, has rejected legislation for a second time that would legalize the practice of assisted suicide. In December 2008, the parliament rejected a first attempt.

The Press and Journal newspaper indicates a Holyrood committee defeated an effort to make Scotland the first part of the United Kingdom to allow assisted suicide as the End of Life Assistance Bill committee said it was not persuaded that the case had been made for the legislation.
