On Martin Luther King Day, Blacks Face Racial Challenge From Abortion
As the nation pauses today to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., black Americans face a racial threat from a much different source than the ones King confronted: abortion.
The Guttmacher Institute recently released a new report on abortion statistics nationwide that confirms the abortion industry continues to target black Americans. Abortions on black women still occur at a much higher rate than the percentage of African-Americans in society as a whole.

The Census Bureau, as of 2009, indicates black Americans comprise 12.4 percent of the total population of the United States, but Guttmacher's new numbers reveal approximately 30 percent of the abortions in the United States are done on black women.

Statewide statistic in places with a large share of African-Americans also shows the racial component of abortion.

In Georgia in 2006, 57.4 percent of abortions are performed on African-American women even though blacks comprise just 30 percent of the general population. In Texas, abortions on black women comprise nearly 25% of all state abortions even though they only constitute 12.7% of the female population (ages 15-44). Every other racial demographic shares a smaller percentage of statewide abortions than their respective percentage of total population.

Rachel Jones, a senior research associate at the pro-abortion group and former Planned Parenthood affiliate, admits the average group of women who get an abortion "are more likely to be women of color" and black women "are more likely to have an abortion" than white women. Full story at LfeNews.com

Pro-Lifers: Vote Against Repeal Equals Abortion Funding OK
When members of the House of Representatives vote on a bill to repeal the Obamacare health care law, a vote against repeal will be seen by pro-life advocates as a vote to support abortion funding.

Because the Obamacare legislation contained insufficient limits on taxpayer funding of abortions, pro-life organizations are strongly supporting the repeal effort and groups like the Susan B. Anthony List say they will inform their members about the votes.

In addition to the repeal vote, House members will also vote on a resolution to instruct Congressional committees to draft replacement legislation, and the instruction includes a requirement that any replacement law must contain "provisions that … prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions and provide conscience protections for health care providers."

"Anybody who votes against repeal is saying there's no problem regarding abortion in the bill," Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of SBA List, told The Hill. "When you know you've got a chance to do the right thing, you don't put it off." Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Has Caused 300K Breast Cancer Deaths Since Roe
A leading breast cancer researcher says abortion has caused at least 300,000 cases of breast cancer causing a woman's death since the Supreme Court allowed virtually unlimited abortion in its 1973 case.

With tens of millions of abortions since the high court's decision and research confirming abortion increases the risk of contracting breast cancer, undoubtedly a large number of breast cancer cases, caused by abortion, have occurred over the last 38 years.

Professor Joel Brind, an endocrinologist at Baruch College in New York, worked with several scientists on a 1996 paper published in the Journal of Epidemiol Community Health showing a "30% greater chance of developing breast cancer" for women who have induced abortions. He recently commented on how many women have become victims.

"If we take the overall risk of breast cancer among women to be about 10% (not counting abortion), and raise it by 30%, we get 13% lifetime risk," Brind explains. Using the 50 million abortions since Roe v. Wade figure, we get 1.5 million excess cases of breast cancer. At an average mortality of 20% since 1973, that would mean that legal abortion has resulted in some 300,000 additional deaths due to breast cancer since Roe v. Wade." Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood to Implement Abortion Mandate by 2013
Planned Parenthood has already confirmed its plans to expand its abortion business nationwide, but new information from New Jersey sheds more light on its idea.
As LifeNews.com has reported, Planned Parenthood came under fire from one of its own affiliates in Texas, which left the national abortion business because it did not want to operate an abortion facility. Corpus Christie, Texas based Planned Parenthood of South Texas affiliate announced it has resigned its status as a network of clinics aligned with Planned Parenthood because of the new abortion mandate.

Later, Lisa David, senior vice president of Health Services Support for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, confirmed the abortion expansion and the mandate in an interview. The mandate would compel every Planned Parenthood affiliate to run at least one abortion center.

Now, David has offered more information on the expansion in an interview with NJ.com.

She said the 85 regions or affiliates aligned with Planned Parenthood must operate an abortion center by 2013 — which would ensure all 820 Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide either do abortions or provide abortion referrals to a Planned Parenthood abortion center. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life People Care for Women and Children After Birth, Too
by Helen Alvaré, Greg Pfundstein, Matthew Schmitz and Ryan T. Anderson
One of the most frequently repeated truisms of the abortion debate is that pro-lifers really don't care about life. As much as they talk about protecting the unborn, we are told, pro-lifers do nothing to support mothers and infants who are already in the world.

Liberal writers such as Matthew Yglesias are given to observing that pro-lifers believe that "life begins at conception and ends at birth." At Commonweal, David Gibson, a journalist who frequently covers the abortion debate, asks how much pro-lifers do for mothers: "I just want to know what realistic steps they are proposing or backing. I'm not sure I'd expect to hear anything from pro-life groups now since there's really been nothing for years."

This lazy slander is as common as it is untrue. Of course, there is much more that needs to be done, but in the decades since Roe v. Wade, pro-lifers have taken the lead in offering vital services to mothers and infants in need. Operating with little support–and often actual opposition–from agencies, foundations, and local governments, pro-lifers have relied upon a network of committed donors and volunteers to make great strides in supporting mothers and their infants. It's time the media takes notice. Full story at LifeNews.com

Effort Begins to Draft Pro-Life Rep. Mike Pence for President
Conservative activists have created a new organization designed to persuade pro-life Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana to mount a bid for the Republican nomination for president. According to an AP report, Ralph Benko, a deputy counsel to Ronald Reagan, is working with other conservatives to form the America's President Committee to encourage Pence to run.

The congressman has drawn respect from both fiscal and social conservatives, in part because of his serious push to revoke taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business, and he is weighing whether or not to run for president or become a gubernatorial candidate in his home state to replace outgoing Governor Mike Daniels in 2012, who is a possible presidential contender himself.

Former Rep. Jim Ryan, a pro-life Kansas Republican, is also a part of the draft Pence committee, which has already put up a web site. Full story at LifeNews.com

Ex-Obama Chief of Staff Admits Pro-Life Points on Obamacare
In defending his own pro-abortion position as he seeks the office of Mayor of Chicago, former Obama administration Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel essentially admitted one of the main points the pro-life community has made about Obamacare. In a post at her web site, pro-life blogger Jill Stanek highlights an interview Emanuel gave to the Chicago Tribune editorial board along with pro-abortion former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun. During the meeting, Obamacare came up and a discussion of the Stupak amendment. Full story at LifeNews.com

Polls Show Sarah Palin Faces Tough Road to GOP Nomination
Some love her. Some hate her. But one thing is certain; Sarah Palin is one of the most influential figures in politics today. With a single update on Facebook or Twitter she has the power to incite media frenzy. However, even with her national exposure it is unclear if she can rally enough support to nab the Republican nomination for president in 2012, should she throw her hat in the ring.

In the key early primary states Iowa and New Hampshire, Public Policy Polling (PPP) indicates Palin will have a tough road ahead. In Iowa, PPP found Palin finishing a distant third, 15 percentage points behind current Iowa frontrunner Mike Huckabee. In New Hampshire, Palin also finishes third, nearly 30 points behind Mitt Romney, the frontrunner in that contest. Full story at LifeNews.com

For Pro-Life People: Martin Luther King's Dream is Our Dream
Father Frank Pavone draws comparisons between the birthday of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the "death day" of the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which has given Americans 53 million abortions since.

Kentucky Court Decision Allows Secret Abortions in Teen Girls
A teenager from another state may get permission to travel out of state for an abortion without their parents ever knowing. That's the decision recently released by the Kentucky Court of Appeals.
In a 2-1 ruling last week that was sealed, the majority on the appeals court said they felt obligated to make the decision despite "significant reservations" about allowing Kentucky judges to essentially keep parents from 49 other states in the dark about whether or not their teenage daughter can travel to the Bluegrass State for a secret abortion without their knowledge or consent. Full story at LifeNews.com

Ohio Bill Would Ban Late-Term Abortions, Gets Pro-Life OK
A bill introduced in the Ohio legislature would ban late-term abortions and it has the support of Ohio Right to Life, though the pro-life group would like changes to it. Rep. Lorraine Fende of Willowick, a Democrat, is behind the measure, House Bill 7, that would ban abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy or past 20 weeks if the unborn child is determined "viable." The measure also contains language making it clear a mental health exception can't be used to get around the ban — especially since a substantial amount of research shows abortions pose mental health risks for women. Full story at LifeNews.com

Louisiana to Hold First-Ever Pro-Life March at State Capital
Louisiana is one of the most pro-life states in the country in terms of the belief of its people and the kinds of laws it has approved to reduce abortions. But the state has never had a March for Life at the state capital, until now. Full story at LifeNews.com
