From Operation Rescue: "Hacktivists" Cyber-Attack Us!

"Hacktivists" Launch Cyber-attack on Operation Rescue

Dear Friends of Life,

You may have noticed that our usual header is missing from this message. That is because this week we at Operation Rescue were subject to a cyber-attack unlike any we have seen. It's not unusual for hackers to try to attack our site and we have relatively strong Internet defenses. But this attack is different and we still do not have access to most of our online resources.

In addition to repeatedly taking down our web site, they text-harassed Cheryl Sullenger, cloned a twitter account and posted under her name, and told us they stole our e-mails. Thankfully, our personal Gmail accounts were not affected.

We contacted the FBI, who offered us very helpful coping advice, but could do little in the way of intervention. The computer intrusion expert we spoke to said he believed our attackers to be a "hacktivist" group called "Anonymous." If, like us, you have never heard of them here is a link to an article about them. [LINK]

All this came as we were fully engaged on several critical fronts advancing the protection of innocent children:

  • We were attending and reporting on a disciplinary hearing that could result in license revocation for the abortionist who improperly supplied second opinions to George Tiller's now closed late-term abortion business. That case is based on a complaint filed by our office.
  • I was working in support of Fr. Frank Pavone, who was recalled to Amarillo, TX by his Bishop. This has prevented him from traveling for Priests for Life and fulfilling the call of God on his life to save babies from abortion.
  • Our efforts to discipline late-term abortionists in Albuquerque, New Mexico, were actively advancing. Operation Rescue previously released evidence that these abortionists, two of which once worked for Tiller at his late-term mill in Wichita, are injuring women at a disturbing rate in facilities that are not equipped to handle the emergencies they are frequently experiencing.
  • There were significant developments in Maryland where we are actively opposing LeRoy Carhart's late-term abortion business. Interestingly, the harassing text messages from the hacker were made from a 410 Maryland area code.

Our webmaster is a wonderful Christian man who has sacrificed personally to help us keep our website online. These hackers are merciless and we appreciate all his hard work to protect our website and move it to a more secure location.

As of this time, our website is still not functional. We appreciate your prayers and your patience. We will be taking other security measures as well to ensure any communication with us is secure and private.

Please note the new email address for Operation Rescue is info.operationrescue (@)gmail.com. (Both Cheryl's and my private e-mail addresses remain the same.)

Once our site is up, we will be posting a backlog of stories to give you more information about the important work that needs your prayers and support.  We appreciate your patience as we try to bring you up to date.

We recognize this as a spiritual attack and we rejoice to be counted worthy of this persecution, but it is a trail to endure nevertheless. Without God's grace and your faithful in prayers and support we simply could not continue. With your help, we will persevere.

For the babies,

Troy Newman

President, Operation Rescue
