Doctors, Uninformed Women Harmed by Abortion and Pregnancy Medical Centers Move to Intervene in Federal Court to Defend the Constitutionality of North Carolina Law Requiring Abortionists to Show and Explain Ultrasound Images of a Mother's Child Before the Mother May Give Her Fully Informed Consent to Abort Her Pregnancy
Jubilee Campaign's Law of Life Project files motion to intervene on behalf of the North Carolina citizens they represent who seek to protect the rights of every mother in North Carolina to be fully informed regarding her medical condition and the condition of her unborn child before she decides to terminate or carry her pregnancy to term.
GREENSBORO, N.C., Nov. 8, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- This evening the Jubilee Campaign's Law of Life Project (LOLP), along with its co-counsel, the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF), filed its motion to intervene, as of right or permissively, to defend the constitutionality of the North Carolina's "Woman's Right to Know Act," only one provision of which is currently enjoined, requiring abortionist's to give women needed information, and also show and explain "real time" ultrasound images of a mother's child before the mother may give her fully "informed consent" electing to abort her pregnancy. As their stories are described in LOLP's Motion to Intervene filed today, LOLP's clients, taken together, are uniquely and expertly poised to present the more than reasonable medical, humanitarian and legal reasons why the Act is constitutional and should be permitted to go into full effect.
LOLP represents medical professionals, pregnancy medical centers who exist to freely assist women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy, as well as women harmed by abortions to which they never would have consented had they been given the information required by the Act. These voices are vital and their important perspective should be fully represented in court. "Giving women the information they need before such a weighty decision is clearly more important than an abortionist's bottom line," said ADF Senior Counsel Steven H. Aden. "Those attacking this law are obviously more concerned about financial gain from abortion than the best interests of women and their preborn children."
Sam Casey, General Counsel for the Jubilee Campaign's Law of Life Project and lead trial counsel for intervenors said concerning the motion:
"We trust the Court will grant our motion permitting our clients to intervene as a parties with full rights on behalf of the entire pro-life community in North Carolina and all ill-informed 'victims' of abortion, including North Carolina's women, the fathers of their children, their families and health care providers, to defend the constitutionality of North Carolina law requiring a pregnant mother get all the information she needs, providing her the opportunity to see and receive from an abortion provider a clear explanation of the real-time ultrasonic image of her unborn child before she elects to abort her pregnancy. We will do our part, in cooperation with the Attorney General and opposing counsel to bring this legal action to a just and expeditious resolution so that this law can finally go into full effect and North Carolina join the many other states that are likewise enforcing this national standard of medical care and thereby protecting the right of all women to be fully informed before choosing whether to continue their pregnancies or not."

In January, an Oklahoma District Court granted a similar motion to intervene filed by LOLP in defense of Oklahoma's ultrasound informed consent law.
