NEW YORK, Feb. 18 /Christian Newswire/ -- A non-partisan coalition of organizations dedicated to fostering active participation of citizens in the political process has announced a series of "Voter Registration Sundays" for 2010. The groups, called the "Vote Pro-life Coalition" are urging pastors of all denominations, as well as leaders of other organizations, to give their people the opportunity to register to vote at Church services and other gatherings.
The designated weekends are March 14, May 23, July 4, and September 12.
"Enabling people to register to vote is a noble way to exercise and foster responsible citizenship," said Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, which initiated the Coalition. "This activity on the part of Churches and other tax-exempt entities is fully permitted by civil law and fully consistent with the Gospel mandate to change the world. The purpose of our coalition is to motivate and encourage leaders to engage in activities like this. We will provide helpful guidance, but our goal is that the Churches and organizations themselves actually carry out the work."
The website www.PoliticalResponsibility.com will provide resources, including voter registration guidelines, dates, and requirements for each state.
Among the members of this growing Coalition are American Values, Anglicans for Life, CatholicVote.org, Citizens for a Pro-life Society, Gospel of Life Ministries, The Heidi Group, The Justice Foundation, Life Coalition International, LifeNews.com, National Clergy Council, National Pro-life Religious Council, Operation Outcry, Priests for Life, Susan B. Anthony List, and Wallbuilders.
Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro- life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.
