Greetings from LifeIssues.net (www.LifeIssues.net)
Dear Friends for Life,
Abortion does triple breast cancer risks. Reporting in the journal, Cancer Epidemiology, researchers found that women in Sri Lanka, who had abortions, more than tripled (a 3.42 increase) their breast cancer risk compared to women who carried their babies to term. It was the most significant risk factor found. Further, prolonged breast feeding reduced the cancer incident substantially more.
Question: Does a Fetal Baby Feel Pain? We quote a text book on neurology, "Functioning neurological structures necessary for pain sensation are in place as early as eight weeks, but certainly by thirteen and one-half weeks of gestation. Sensory nerves including nociceptors reach the skin of the fetus before the eighth week of gestation. The first detectable brain activity occurs in the thalamus between the eighth and tenth weeks. The movement of electrical impulses through the neuro fibers and spinal column takes place between eight and nine weeks gestation. By thirteen and one-half weeks the entire sensory nervous system functions as a whole in all parts of the body."
Answer: Yes, a fetal baby can feel pain.
God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI
(Quote) "We want the world to focus on children whose lives have been devastated by AIDS. The millions of children who are missing their parents; their childhood, their future but most importantly, they are missing YOU. Everyone can make a real difference. Your voice is needed in a global movement that can change their world." -- Pierce Brosnan

(Focus on Asia): "Floods From Pakistan to Korea May Strain Aid as Food Costs Soar" - At least 1.8 million people urgently need food supplies in Pakistan after the deadliest floods in 80 years, according to the United Nations World Food Programme. In North Korea, rains triggered landslides that blocked railways, destroyed homes and buried crops, piling on hardship for a country that already needs aid to feed its 24 million people. Floods in China have killed at least 1,072 people this year, affecting 9.7 million hectares of farmland, according to the government. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-06/floods-from-pakistan-to-north-korea-strain-aid-as-global-food-costs-soar.html

ITEM #1. Catholic psychologist trains confessors in growing problem
Priests meet them in the confessional. Clinical therapist and counselor Peter Kleponis meets them in his office - men who are caught up in the epidemic of viewing pornography.

ITEM #2. Abortion's Fundamental Deception
The fact is that those who advocate the killing of the preborn child are the very same people who would deny that a preborn human being is a person. PP and its cronies are committed to deception, for if they were not, they would never defend an act that kills someone by claiming that it was something else entirely. If this sounds like double-talk to you, then you understand the fundamental problem with abortion c abortion is a lie.

ITEM #3. Feeding Dementia Patients With Dignity
Comment: When I was 14, I was a volunteer at a local nursing home and one of my main duties was spoon-feeding patients. Some obviously had demential and some were just frail. All enjoyed having a young person around and each took about an hour to feed. Now, of course, liability fears routinely eliminates 14 year olds and few families are able to feed elderly relatives 3 meals a day, not to mention the time it can take to safely administer crucial oral medication which must be done by medical professionals. In addition, the turnover and lack of staff in nursing homes is well known. Tube feedings may be used for people who would indeed benefit from hand feeding but, I fear, many others would prematurely and miserably die from the lack of food, water, and necessary medication.
Also, none of this "comfort only feeding" can applied to the brain-injured who cannot swallow and who are not dying or to the terminally ill who want to die before they are actually dying. This, of course, is a constant problem in medical ethics today. --Nancy V.

ITEM #5. British cancer girl saved by windpipe made from her own stem cells
Doctors have carried out pioneering lifesaving surgery to give a new windpipe to a British teenager suffering from cancer. The 19-year-old was able to speak within a few days of the operation carried out in Italy using her own stem cells.
Another 31-year-old patient from Czechoslovakia also underwent surgery for the same rare form of trachea cancer.

ITEM #6. Chilean cardinal laments legalization of same-sex "marriage" in Argentina
Speaking to reporters, the cardinal said, "Maybe two people, two men or two women want to live together and share their lives, but to call that 'marriage' is an aberration which some countries are falling into. It is sad that Argentina has fallen into that," he added.

ITEM #7. Leading British philosopher says assisted suicide laws are never safe
When and why should we respect individual autonomy? Does respect for individual autonomy demand a minimal state that legislates sparingly in order not to infringe individual autonomy, and in particular does not regulate action "between consenting adults"? The answers we give to these questions raise difficulties for any attempt to legalise assisted suicide.

ITEM #8. Australian TV show produces advert to promote mandatory euthanasia by age 80
A TV show in Australia segment called the Pitch has fallen into the clutch of the euthanasia lobby by producing a show whereby two advertising producers create the most persuasive commercial to approve mandatory euthanasia for people at age 80.

ITEM #9. Ethics, Morality and In Vitro Fertilization
Clearly, there is hope for the couple facing infertility, and among the decisions that the couple has to make, one cannot overlook the choice to adopt a child rather than seek a medical solution to the problem of infertility. But one thing is clear. As long as in vitro fertilization and its progeny bring in the big bucks, there won't be a huge outpouring of support from the medical community for those who, like Dr. Hilgers, believe in solving problems naturally instead of using technologies that are fraught with danger and disappointment.

ITEM #10. Culture of Life Issues and the "Goods" of Human Persons
21st century Americans - and others, particularly in the "developed" nations - are deeply divided over issues central to the culture of life: contraception, the generation of human life, abortion, the care of seriously handicapped infants and of the dying, the meaning of sex, marriage, the family, and the kind of home best suited to help children grow into caring and responsible adults. There are many reasons supporting culture of life positions, but there is a need to show why these reasons are good and true and to help others see why. Moreover, sometimes advocates of the culture of life can and do disagree among themselves and/or find themselves perplexed about what is the right and good thing to do. Is there any way to resolve these disputes and overcome doubts?

ITEM #11. Despite High Risk, HIV Services Don't Reach 9/10 MSM And Transgender People
"Funding for programmes that address sexual health needs of MSM people in Asia Pacific is left to 4% of total HIV-related funding" said Shivanand Khan, who was conferred upon the Order of British Empire (OBE) by the British Queen in recognition of his contribution to HIV prevention among MSM. Shivanand Khan is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Naz Foundation International (NFI).
This is very serious concern because according to the Commission on AIDS in Asia report 2008, more than 50% of new HIV infections will occur in MSM and transgender people.

ITEM #12. AIDS 2010 Calls for Treatment and Prevention Support for Men Having Sex with Men
"Right now, if you look at the data from Asia and the Pacific, if there is no increase in HIV interventions for MSM and transgenders, then something like by the year 2020 - which is only 10 years away - 50 percent of all new infections will be MSM or transgenders." He says less than four percent of HIV/AIDS funding around the world goes to men having sex with men and transgenders.
"Nine out of ten, nine out of ten MSM and transgenders do not get services. And right now in Asia, every day there are about 200 people - MSM and transgenders - getting infected because they don ft have services," he says.
