"Her mother was forcing her to do this"

Family Planning Associates, Miramar Road, San Diego, Saturday, July 24, 2010

As Anne stood at the west entrance to the parking lot early in the morning, a few cars drove in but rushed past her without stopping. She was able to stop a man in a white Mustang as he was leaving after having dropped off his girlfriend/wife at FPA. She asked him if his friend had been inside FPA for a while. He said she was only there for about 15 minutes. Anne told him about the history of the doctor and gave him literature. She also told him about Culture of Life Family Services (COLFS), and that his friend would get much better care at a place that cares for women. She had the impression that this young man did not want her to have an abortion. He was very concerned and said he would go up "get her out of there." He backed up and drove quickly toward the entrance to FPA. Anne turned back toward the driveway and within minutes both he and his girlfriend/wife drove away.

Terry spoke to a Hispanic couple on their way in. The woman wouldn't look at
her, but her husband took all the information and wanted to know more about the litigation, and then about COLFS. After a short discussion, he said, "Okay. Thank you." He then drove right out and did not return.

There were many cars entering Anne's driveway entrance, quickly pulling into the lot without a glance at her until around 10 a.m., when she was able to talk with a young Hispanic couple who had a 6-month-old baby in back. The mother, who said she was 13 weeks along, sat in back with the baby. Anne told the father about the doctor's record and both seemed concerned. She was then able to talk to the mother about the fact that she was now a mom, and how sad it would be for her to abort her baby. They both were unsure, because they lacked money and they were so young. Anne assured them everything would be OK. She gave them all the literature she could, then stepped back so they could talk. She came back and they asked about insurance. She told them COLFS would do a free exam and ultrasound. The father said, "That is what they were going to do at FPA also." They talked some more, and then the father said that since they already paid, he would go into FPA and get his money back. Anne warned them that it would be hard in there, and they will get pressure to stay. He pulled in, but only the mother got out and went in. Anne saw them a little over an hour later, and because the mother was already at 13 weeks, it seemed unlikely that she could have had the abortion.
