St. Cloud State University for Life Sets the Bar High
by Angela Erickson, SFLA Northern Regional Coordinator
St. Cloud State University for Life continues to set the bar for what an active and effective club looks like—and they set that bar high. This month, their consistent execution of a variety of events did not go unnoticed by Students for Life of America! This club is continually exploring new ways to reach out to their peers at St. Cloud State University. In Minnesota there are three pro-life bills that are being discussed in the legislature (Taxpayer Funding of Abortions, Born Alive Infant Protection Act, and Licensure and Inspection of Abortion Facilities) and when we found out that NARAL was organizing people to attend a committee hearing on their behalf, SCSU for Life was one of the first schools to get on board to testify at the capitol that very day! Within 24 hours they recruited students to come and make a statement on all these bills. On March 4th, SCSU for Life Vice President Brody Hagemeier eloquently testified before the entire Health and Human Resources Committee to encourage them to pass a law banning taxpayer funding of abortions in the state. The best part is that because of the courage of these students, all three bills passed. Nice try, NARAL! See what else St. Cloud State University for Life has done to save lives on their campus-->
Event-in-a-Box:
Abortion Changes You It is likely that many of the students and faculty that you encounter are impacted by their own or a loved one’s abortion experience. It is estimated that 1 out of 3 women in the U.S. will undergo an abortion by the time they are 45. Studies also indicate that 1 out of 5 abortions are performed on college-aged women. Many suffer in silence, not knowing where to turn. Shame and fear of judgment often keep them feeling isolated and alone. SFLA and Abortion Changes You are partnering together this month to encourage you to activate the 3 E’s: Explore your understanding of the impact of abortion and compassionate communication, Expose after-abortion healing resources and Exhibit your support while gently inviting those who have been impacted by an abortion to begin the healing process. A Nerdy Analogy
Pro-lifers
want to see progress towards ending abortion for their efforts. It is
human nature – we fight hard for something, so we want to see our hard
work pay off. Sometimes we plant seeds of conviction and hope in
someone’s heart and someone else gets to see the fruit later down the
road. When it comes to public opinion, sometimes we don’t see fruit for a
long time because it can take a very long time to bear fruit. But we
can never make the mistake of thinking this means our efforts are in
vain, as some have regrettably made recently. When it comes to politics,
culture, and changing the world, the nerdy Biomedical Sciences major in
me comes out to produce a rather nerdy, yet inspiring, analogy.Continue reading--> |
