News from the Trenches: Prayer Warriors

FPA Abortion Mill - San Diego

Saturday September 19, 2009

Four prayer warriors prayed fervently on the sidewalk while two sidewalk counselors, Terry and Luis stood next to the main driveway ready to counsel abortion minded women about the options that would spare the lives of their babies.

Terry intercepted a car pulling into the parking lot and told the young couple, with their one-year-old boy in their back seat, all about Santella's horrendous medical history including his license suspensions. The young woman "R" and her boyfriend "K" immediately responded with alarm at the information on the abortionist and readily took the Culture of Life Family Services business card. Reiterating to "R" how important she was to her young son, Terry strongly encouraged them to leave FPA immediately and call or contact COLFS on Monday when they would be open to speak to a competent doctor. Saying they would, they drove right out the exit without hesitation.

Terry had a lengthy conversation with two young women in their early 20s, who were on their way to a beauty school nearby. The women parked their car and walked over to Terry to ask what we were doing there. Terry explained there was an abortion mill here and that we were praying for the women and their pre-born babies who were going to the mill. She told them what happens during both a first-trimester and second-trimester abortion and how it has long-term, harmful effects.

One of the women shared with Terry that she had a child, though unmarried, and could never have an abortion. She said she has been with the father of the child for four years. Terry inquired as to why they hadn't married and the young woman confided she was willing, but her boyfriend wasn't ready. Terry handed her a rosary and said "Pray about this. Any man not willing to stick by the mother of his child may not be worthy of her.". Agreeing, this young women said she would. The other woman confided that she did have one abortion but would never have another. Terry offered this young woman, also unmarried, information on Rachel's Hope and informed her of the website "Silent No More" and a rosary; giving both several pamphlets for any young women they meet or know who may have an unplanned pregnancies or questions about abortions and persons to talk to. They readily took all the information, thanked her, and left to go to class.

Luis noticed that a young Hispanic couple had entered the parking lot by foot through the farthest driveway about a block from where he was standing. He suspected that they were heading to the mill, but since sidewalk counselors are not allowed to counsel in the parking lot he just watched and prayed. Sure enough, they entered the mill. But less than 10 minutes later they came back out. They walked across the parking lot and Luis began walking quickly on the sidewalk to intercept them at the farthest driveway. He went up to the couple and asked if they spoke Spanish. Luis introduced himself and started to explain the sordid history of this mill's abortionist. The young woman's name started with an "E". They said that they had gone in to the clinic to "check it out". Giving them the COLFS clinic contact information, Luis encouraged them to check out a clinic that was more interested in a person's health than their money. "E" said they would call COLFS during the week. Luis gave her and her boyfriend a rosary.
