Greetings from LifeIssues.net (www.LifeIssues.net)
Dear Friends for Life,
STOPP International reports that a PP official stated, "It's cheaper to kill babies than to deliver them alive." John Nugent, the CEO of Planned Parenthood of Maryland, in Baltimore, recently told Forbes.com that insurance companies want to include abortion coverage in their plans because "[i]t's cheaper to terminate an unwanted pregnancy rather than taking it to term." Nugent said that about 70% of people with insurance could use it [to pay for abortions] at his Planned Parenthood facility. The article cites Health Care Blue Book prices for abortion vs. live delivery: abortion in a physician's office, $397 vs. vaginal delivery, $5,992, or c-section, $8,558.
Kill Babies? According to the Catholic News Agency in London, that nation's Royal College of Ob and Gyn has suggested to doctors that any baby under 22 weeks old, who survives an abortion attempt, be killed by lethal injection. Records show that in one year 66 babies survived such abortions . . . and were left to die.
Caribbean's, Dominican Republic by a vote of 128 - 34 have adopted a constitutional amendment which states that "The right to life is inviolable from conception until death. In no case shall the death penalty be established, pronounced or applied." This has occurred despite heavy campaigning by international, pro-abortion groups including UNICEF.
Turkey - Abortion Breast Cancer Link: A major study from Istanbul in the World Journal of Surgical Oncology reported a statistically significant, 66% increase in breast cancer among women who had abortions.
God Bless

ITEM #1. 100 Polish Scientists Condemn In Vitro Fertilization
A group of Polish scientists have issued a document demanding that the government legislate a statutory ban on artificial (in vitro) fertilization procedures. The 100 signatories also call for full government funding of NaProTechnology, an ethically acceptable and highly successful method of evaluating and treating infertility.

ITEM #2. Vatican newspaper draws attention to 'hidden epidemic' of premature births
Dr. Carlo Bellieni, who teaches in the Department of Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Reproductive Medicine at the University of Siena, has written an article for L'Osservatore Romano in which he discusses the "hidden epidemic" of premature births. Rates of premature births increased by 25% in France from 1995 to 2005 and by 30% in the United Kingdom over the last 25 years. 540,000 of newborns -- 12.8% of total births -- are born prematurely in the United States, an increase of 20% since 1990.

ITEM #3. China's first gay pageant gives glimpse of new acceptance
These days there are gay support groups and websites helping people to explore their sexuality and meet potential partners. There are gay venues in most major cities; last year, the first government-backed bar opened in Kunming, in south-western Yunnan. Shanghai held the first Gay Pride week and in Beijing, campaigners called for same-sex marriages.

ITEM #4. Abstinence Is Best: New UK Report Shows Premature Sex Doubles Danger of Cervical Cancer
Women having sexual relationships at an early age can double their risk of developing cervical cancer, researchers say. A study shows women are in greater danger from the disease if they become sexually active at a young age.

ITEM #5. Vancouver Archbishop Compares Abortion to Slaughter of the Innocents
In his homily for the annual pro-life Mass on December 28, Vancouver Archbishop Michael Miller began by expressing his gratitude to pro-lifers "for your willingness not just to affirm the sacrosanct value of every human life but to work and pray that this value be recognized as absolutely necessary to the common good of society."

ITEM #6. A Quiet Admission Speaks Loudly About Abortion and Breast Cancer
"Back in the early 1800's, most practicing physicians refused to believe that the simple gesture of washing their hands between patients could help prevent the spread of childbed fever among the pregnant women they examined. Even in the face of compelling scientific evidence, they remained stubbornly opposed to the practice. As a result of this intransigence on the part of the medical establishment over a period of many years, childbed fever (also known as puerpural infection) ended up unnecessarily claiming the lives of thousands of young women. Today, a similar intransigence exists among many physicians who refuse to "wash their hands" of abortion; they also fail to acknowledge a key and dangerous effect of abortion on women's health, namely, an increased risk of breast cancer."

ITEM #7. Embryonic Stem Cell Research Has Lost the Battle, California Was Its Waterloo
The battle over embryonic stem cell research is over. A few skirmishes will no doubt continue -- perhaps even for years -- and some ESCR advocates will refuse to acknowledge defeat. But they have decisively lost. Years from now, when we look back in astonishment at having been fleeced for billions to pay for therapeutically worthless research, we'll recognize that California was the Waterloo for ESCR..

ITEM #8. US Bishops: Defense of Marriage "One of the Premier Social Justice Issues of Our Time"
"Preserving marriage between one man and one woman is a matter of justice; indeed it is one of the premier social justice issues of our time. It does not deny but rather supports basic human rights - especially the rights of children," Archbishop Kurtz said. "The recent New York Senate vote and the vote in New Jersey witness to this fact."

ITEM #9. The top ten bioethics stories of the decade
This isn't an idle exercise. Bioethics matters. The field exerts tremendous influence over the most important questions of public policy and moral values: How should we treat the most vulnerable and dependent among us? What makes us human? Indeed, is it even morally relevant that one is human? Trends in bioethics, thus, illuminate where we are as a society and the nature of the culture we are creating for our progeny.

ITEM #10. The Effects of Pornography on Individuals, Marriage, Family and Community
Pornography is a visual representation of sexuality which distorts an individual's concept of the nature of conjugal relations. This, in turn, alters both sexual attitudes and behavior. It is a major threat to marriage, to family, to children and to individual happiness. In undermining marriage it is one of the factors in undermining social stability.
