Catholic Charities CYO of San Francisco’s honorary committee includes Pelosi, Newsom, three supervisors who voted for notorious anti-Catholic resolution and a Prop 8 opponent
On April 16, Catholic Charities CYO (CCCYO) of San Francisco will host its annual “Loaves and Fishes” fundraiser. The honorary committee – a committee of persons CCCYO considers praiseworthy -- includes Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who, in the face of the unified opposition of the Catholic bishops, just strong-armed taxpayer-funded abortion through congress.
Pelosi’s career of advocacy for taxpayer-funded abortion, partial-birth abortion, and embryonic stem-cell research are public record, as is her idiosyncratic understanding of the Catholic faith. In a speech that outraged faithful Catholics and non-Catholics alike, Pelosi used the occasion of the Solemnity of Joseph the Husband of Mary to pray for the passage of the healthcare bill, which forces Catholics to pay for abortions. The speaker earned additional scorn for confusing the Solemnity of Joseph the Husband of Mary with the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker.
The honorary committee also includes San Francisco Supervisors Bevan Dufty, Sean Elsbernd, and Scott Mirkarimi. On March 21, 2006, each of them signed Resolution 168-06, which called the Catholic Church “hateful and discriminatory” for teaching that a child should be brought up in a home with a mother and a father. Resolution 168-06 was a slap in the face to every faithful Catholic in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. An eleven-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments on Dec. 16, 2009 in a case challenging the constitutionality of the resolution. A decision is pending.
