Pollster: Pro-Life Republicans Will Take House From Pro-Abortion Dems 227-208
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading national pollster says his survey of polling data in House races across the country shows pro-life Republicans will retake the House of Representatives from the pro-abortion Democrats who currently control the chamber. Ipsos pollster Cliff Young projects a 227-208 split for the GOP.

Should that happen, it would reveal just how frustrated American voters are with the Obama administration and his allies on Capitol Hill, who have promoted abortion extensively, including through the ObamaCare health care reform bill.

The analysis comes along with a new Ipsos poll showing voters prefer the Republican candidate in their Congressional district to the Democrat on a 48-44 percentage point margin.

The poll also projects Democrats will retain control of the Senate, but on a much narrower 52-48 vote margin than the current 59-41 split they now enjoy.

That makes it much easier for pro-life lawmakers to use filibusters to block Obama's pro-abortion judicial nominees and further efforts to promote taxpayer funding of abortion and embryonic stem cell research. Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Boosts Breast Cancer Risk 193% Study Finds, Giving Birth Lowers It
Babol, Iran (LifeNews.com) -- Researchers in Iran have published the results of a new study showing women who have an abortion face a 193% increased risk of breast cancer. On the other hand, women who carry a pregnancy to term find a lowered breast cancer risk compared with women who have never been pregnant.

The study folllows on the heels of new reports indicating Komen for the Cure gave $7.5 million to the Planned Parenthood abortion business in 2009.

The findings were reported in the April 3, 2010 issue of Medical Oncology but are coming to the public's attention only now.

Hajian-Tilaki K.O. and Kaveh-Ahangar T. from Babol University of Medical Sciences compared 100 cases of women who were newly diagnosed with breast cancer compared with 200 age-matched controls to review several reproductive factors.

The researchers discovered abortion significantly elevated breast cancer risks. Also, having a first pregnancy at an older age increases the breast cancer risk by 310 percent -- which has implications for women who have relied on birth control and delayed a first pregnancy until later in life.

The Iranian scientists also confirmed what other studies have found, namely that increasing parity or the number of births reduces the breast cancer risk significantly. Full story at LifeNews.com

State Medical Board Won't Dismiss Case Against Dangerous Abortionist Brigham
Trenton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- New Jersey's Board of Medical Examiners rejected a request from the attorney of dangerous abortion practitioner Steven Chase Brigham to dismiss a complain the state has filed against him. Brigham stands accused of running afoul of numerous health and safety standards.

The state attorney general's office is requesting that the medical board disciplinary panel take action against Brigham.

Officials say he has concocted a scheme by which he evades the late-term abortion limits of the state of New Jersey and health and safety rules in the state by starting abortions in the state and then transporting the women to Maryland to complete them.

His New Jersey medical license has been suspended based on allegations that he illegally began abortions well beyond the 14 week limit in New Jersey and completed them at the Elkton, Maryland abortion center. The state wants his license permanently suspended.

Brigham was cited after a botched abortion left a woman requiring emergency hospitalization, and other cases of problems later surfaced.

Brigham's attorney, Joseph M. Gorrell, argued the case should be dismissed and said that's because Brigham has already been examined by the medical board on the same charges a decade ago. Full story at LifeNews.com

Catholic Bishops of New York: Pro-Life More Important Than Health Care, Economy
Albany, NY (LifeNews.com) -- The Catholic bishops of New York have released a new statement about the upcoming congressional elections. In a contest seeing campaigns for the House and Senate shape up as a contrast between pro-abortion and pro-life positions, the bishops say the pro-life issue is most important.

The comments are significant given the importance the economy and fiscal issues have on the minds of voters heading into November.

The New York bishops reference the Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship document the national conference of Catholic bishops released highlighting the importance of pro-life issues in elections.

That document teaches, Those who knowingly, willingly, and directly support public policies or legislation that undermine fundamental moral principles cooperate with evil.

As such, they say pro-life concerns trump everything else, including health care and assisting the poor.

"The inalienable right to life of every innocent human person outweighs other concerns where Catholics may use prudential judgment, such as how best to meet the needs of the poor or to increase access to health care for all," they said.

"The right to life is the right through which all others flow. To the extent candidates reject this fundamental right by supporting an objective evil, such as legal abortion, euthanasia or embryonic stem cell research, Catholics should consider them less acceptable for public office," they added. Nidal Hasan Should be Prosecuted for Killing Unborn Child in Fort Hood Massacre
by Denise Burke
Yesterday, the U.S. Army convened an Article 32 hearing the military s version of a preliminary hearing to investigate charges made against Major Nidal Hasan and stemming from the November 5, 2009 massacre at Fort Hood, Texas.

Hasan currently faces one charge and 13 specifications of premeditated murder in violation of Article 118 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and one charge and 32 specifications of attempted murder in violation of Article 80 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Colonel James Pohl, an experienced Army judge advocate who, in January 2009, was appointed as the Chief Presiding Officer for the Military Commissions (charged with trying enemy noncombatants in on-going military operations against terrorism), has been detailed to serve as the Article 32 investigating officer in this case.

Colonel Pohl is responsible for determining if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial by court-martial on each of the charges and specifications (commonly known in the civilian system as counts ) and with making a recommendation as to the disposition of all charges and specifications. Pregnancy Centers Push Back Against New York Proposal Against Free Speech
New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- Pregnancy centers are pushing back against a proposal from pro-abortion members of the New York City Council who are acting on behalf of the NARAL abortion advocacy group, which wants council members to support a proposal limiting their free speech rights.

The proposal would place stringent limits on the advertising pregnancy centers use and require them to post signs designed to dissuade women from seeking their abortion alternatives services.

Care Net, a national network of more than 1,100 centers in North America, has announced its intention to defend pregnancy centers in New York City against the legislation.

Care Net president Melinda Delahoyde called the proposed bill unconstitutional and a hostile attack on non-profit organizations providing critical help to women. Full story at LifeNews.com

Wisconsin: Walker Leads Barrett as TV Ad Misleads on Stem Cell Research
Madison, WI (LifeNews.com) -- Republican Scott Walker now holds a nine-point lead over Milwaukee's Democratic Mayor Tom Barrett in their race to become the next governor of the state of Wisconsin. Barrett may be feeling the heat as he has unveiled a television ad that critics say falsely slams Walker on stem cell research.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll released today surveying likely voters finds Walker earning 51% of the vote, while Barrett receives 42% support. Another 7 percent like another candidate or are undecided.

"Two weeks ago, Walker, the county executive of Milwaukee County, held a 50% to 44% advantage over his Democratic opponent. Walker has consistently led Barrett in surveys dating back to February, with support ranging from 46% to 51%. In those same surveys, Barrett s support has remained in the range of 40% to 44%," Rasmussen noted.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel s PolitiFact web page monitoring campaigns and elections came to the conclusion earlier this week that Tom Barrett is misleading voters about Walker's position on stem cell research.

"Of course, we already knew that. But we're glad that the Journal-Sentinel, hardly a bastion of support for Walker, exercised some intellectual honestly and looked at the facts," says Sue Armacost of Wisconsin Right to Life. Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Practitioner in California Operates Despite Repeated Legal Troubles
San Diego, CA (LifeNews.com) -- South California abortion practitioner Feliciano Rios continues to operate an abortion business and do abortions in Chula Vista despite significant legal trouble. The pro-life group Operation rescue has obtained legal documents showing the numerous issues Rios has deal with over the last two years.

Papers from the California Board of Medicine filed earlier this year show Rios was indicted by a San Diego County Grand Jury on five felony counts of grand theft and Medi-Cal fraud.

He was also charged with Perjury Under Oath for lying to the grand jury that eventually indicted him.

On July 2, 2009, Rios pled guilty to perjury and insurance fraud, both felonies. he was given a sentence of three years of formal probation.

The conditions of the probation included Rios having 365 days of confinement stayed pending successful completion of probation, payment of fines totaling $1,360, he cannot possess a firearm, ammunition, or deadly weapon, and he must obey all state laws.

However, in December, Rios become the subject of an investigation because records showed that Rios had three firearms registered to him without a change of ownership on file. Police conducted a search of Rios' residence and he admitted to the police that he still had the guns in his possession at his Chula Vista abortion clinic. Full story at LifeNews.com

Vermont Gubernatorial Candidate Peter Shumlin Has His Facts Wrong on Abortion
by Mary Hahn Beerworth
In today's gubernatorial debate at the Burlington Free Press, Peter Shumlin incorrectly stated that abortion was illegal in Vermont before Roe v. Wade. Shumlin further implied that should Roe v. Wade be overturned, an act of the legislature would be required to make abortion legal in Vermont.

However, Shumlin needs a history lesson. In 1972, The Vermont Supreme Court invalidated Vermont s abortion statute, finding it unconstitutional and therefore unenforceable. See Beecham v. Leahy.

While no legal experts are predicting that Roe v. Wade is likely to be overturned, the fact remains that the State of Vermont would revert to the Beecham .v Leahy decision and abortion would remain legal.

Peter Shumlin concocted an outlandish scenario for his own purposes and is spreading inaccurate information. Full story at LifeNews.com

California Stem Cell Agency Apologizes for Offensive Poem on Web Site
Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) -- The California Institute for Regenerative Medicine has apologized for a publishing a poem celebrating embryonic stem cell research that a pro-life legal group said was blasphemous.

The institute is the agency funded by $3 billion in taxpayer funds, most all of which have gone to embryonic stem cell research that has never helped any patients.

The poem by Tyron Anderson, one of two prize-winning pieces in the October 6 contest, begins This is my body which is given for you and ends, Take this in remembrance of me, unambiguous references to Christ s words at the Last Supper.

However, the poem is meant to celebrate the destruction of human life that is necessary for scientists to obtain embryonic stem cells for research.

In a statement issued before the poem had been removed from the CIRM website, the Life Legal Defense Foundation pro-life law firm told LifeNews.com, California stem cell agency rewards blasphemy while admitting the humanity of embryos slated for destruction. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pittsburgh Pro-Life Advocates Win Injunction Against Law Limiting Free Speech
Pittsburgh, PA (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates in Pittsburgh won a legal battle today as a judge agreed to put an injunction in place against a law which restricts the right of pro-life people and others to distribute literature within the city.

The ACLJ filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of two pro-life advocates challenging the constitutionality of the Pittsburgh ordinance.

Today, U.S. District Court Judge David Cercone granted a temporarily injunction to stop the enforcement of the law that bans putting fliers on parked cars in the city. The law bans any written literature "so as to cause litter or unreasonably interfere with pedestrians or traffic" without permission of the owner of the car.

Two pro-life advocates, Kathleen Ramsey and Albert Brunn, challenged the constitutionality of the law so they could place voter guides on vehicles. Full story at LifeNews.com

DC Congressional Candidate to Use Graphic Abortion Pictures in Television Ads
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A congressional candidate in the District of Columbia has become one of the rare candidates to show graphic abortion pictures in television commercials for her campaign.

Missy Smith, candidate for Congress against Eleanor Holmes Norton, has created two pro-life campaign ads. The ads contain graphic images of healthy unborn babies and babies killed by abortion.

The ads present a unique opportunity to show the graphic images of babies killed by abortion on national media. In opposition to the usual media "blackout" regarding the babies, the laws regulating campaign ads allow for the candidate to show the graphic images.

Smith is running for Congress in Washington DC with the express purpose of running the political ads on TV of graphic pictures of healthy unborn babies and dead babies killed by abortion, she said. Full story at LifeNews.com
