CDC: Two More U.S. Women Have Died From Using RU 486 Abortion Drug
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Centers for Disease Control has reported that two more women in the United States than previously thought have died from using the dangerous RU 486 abortion drug. The news comes just days after the 10-year anniversary of the FDA's approval of the abortion drug.

The new information comes from a CDC report issued September 30 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The two women died after developing a Clostridium sordellii infection after using the abortion drug. Two separate studies -- conducted by the University of Michigan and a Brown University researcher -- showed that off-label use of the drug caused the infections in the women who took it and the infections led to septic shock that claimed their lives.

The two new cases include the 2008 death of a 29-year-old Hispanic woman and the 2009 death of a 21-year-old Caucasian woman.

The early deaths of women from the RU 486 abortion drug included four California women who all died within a week of using the abortion drug they received from Planned Parenthood abortion businesses. Planned Parenthood had been telling women to use the abortion drug vaginally, even though the FDA indicated oral use is safer. The abortion business ultimately changed its policy to conform to the FDA protocol.

The women's deaths brings the total number of deaths in the United States from the abortion drug to eight. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Groups Saddened by News of More Women Dying From Abortion Drug
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Reaction from the pro-life community to the news that the CDC is reporting two more women have died from using the RU 486 abortion drug is swift. Representatives of two organizations say the deaths are an indication the FDA and the abortion industry are ignoring women's health and safety.

As LifeNews.com reported, new information about the deaths comes from a CDC report issued September 30 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The two women died after developing a Clostridium sordellii infection after using the abortion drug, including the 2008 death of a 29-year-old Hispanic woman and the 2009 death of a 21-year-old Caucasian woman.

That brings the total number of deaths from the abortion drug of women in the United States to eight. Another five women have died in other nations, including Canada, the U.K., Sweden and France, and the European maker of the abortion drug suggests 29 women have died from using it.

"With this latest report, we see that, despite high profile government investigations and public assurances of the drug's safety, women taking RU 486 continue to die," National Right to Life education director Randy O'Bannon told LifeNews.com this morning. "It's clearly a dangerous drug that kills unborn children and puts their mothers at risk."

"We are told that these are extremely rare infections, supposedly unrelated to RU 486 or its accompanying prostaglandin, yet somehow they keep showing up with this specific group of women taking these abortifacients," he said. Full story at LifeNews.com

Christian Doctors Group Launches Renewed Effort Against Military Base Abortions
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A national organization for Christian doctors has launched a renewed effort to stop the Defense Department funding bill because it contains a provision allowing abortions at taxpayer-funded U.S. military bases.

Senate Republicans have already been successful in stopping the bill once with a filibuster, but they may have to vote again during the lame duck post-election session.

Because Senate Democrats have promised to push for another vote on the bill and its pro-abortion provision after the elections, the Christian Medical and Dental Association and its 17,000 members have launched a renewed campaign to stop it.

In an email to LifeNews.com, Dr. Gene Rudd of the CMDA said three concerns stand out to him about the Burris amendment to overturn the policy against abortions at military base hospitals.

"This is another insidious attempt to have all Americans fund abortions," he said.

"Our country is at least equally divided in its approval/disapproval of abortion. Many polls show a majority to be pro-life," Rudd explained. "Nevertheless, the strategy of abortion supporters is to not only claim the right, but also to make those who disagree with them pay for their abortions." Full story at LifeNews.com

White House Funds Pregnancy Help, Pro-Lifers Say No Abortion Common Ground
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The White House has dispersed $27 million in grants through a new Pregnancy Assistance Fund created under the ObamaCare health care bill that also funds abortions. However, some pro-life groups don't see the fund as achieving any "common ground" on the issue of abortion.

The Obama administration hopes the fund will mute some of the extensive criticism Obama and his pro-abortion allies in Congress endured for not including sufficient abortion funding limits in the legislation.

The funds will be made available to states to support pregnant women and teen parents in what the White House calls an attempt to "build common ground" on abortion.

The White House announced that 17 states an territories and 13 Indian tribes are the first to receive the grants.

Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats for Life of America, who has alienated pro-life advocates by accusing other pro-life groups of lying about the ObamaCare bill and its abortion funding, claims the new program is "common ground" on abortion.

"Pro-life and pro-choice people have gotten behind it so it's a good first step at reducing abortion and providing support for healthier babes and mothers," Day told CNN in July. "Once we show how effective this is we can go back and expand this program."

But pro-life groups say they program may not do what it is intended to do, because states and tribal governments are in charge of dispersing the funds and because the money may go to programs like violence prevention -- which is positive but not designed to help pregnant women decide against an abortion. James Dobson: Pro-Life Cause May Have to Settle for Overturning Roe, Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Ask most pro-life Americans and they will tell the you the ultimate goal for the pro-life movement is a constitutional amendment recognizing the legal status of unborn children from conception. But former Focus on the Family president and founder James Dobson says that may not be attainable.

Before a constitutional amendment, either federally or in any state, can be recognized, the Supreme Court must be changed to remove its current pro-abortion majority -- pegged by most pro-life legal scholars as 5-4 at best.

Once that happens, the Supreme Court can reverse the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that allowed for virtually unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason and has resulted in more than 52 million abortions since 1973.

When the high court overturns Roe, states may be able to pass their own laws prohibiting abortions, and Dobson says that may have to be good enough for the pro-life movement because getting three-fourths of the states and Congress to ratify a constitutional amendment is an extraordinarily difficult process.

"I would be willing to settle for each state making a decision, and we'll fight that out in the state legislatures in 50 states. I just don't see the Supreme Court saying this is flat-out illegal," he lamented. "I wish they would, but I don't think that will happen." Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Senate Candidates Hold Leads in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Kentucky
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- If the pro-life movement hopes to have any chance of halting at least some of President Barack Obama's pro-abortion agenda, they will need to hold on to pro-life seats in the Senate and pick up seats from some of his pro-abortion allies. That appears to be happening in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Kentucky.

In the Keystone State, Republican Pat Toomey, who is pro-life, still stands just short of 50% against pro-abortion Democrat Joe Sestak.

Should Toomey hold on to win, he will pick up a key Senate seat from pro-abortion Se. Arlen Specter.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Pennsylvania voters finds Toomey with 49% support to Sestak s 40% when leaners are included. Four percent (4%) favor another candidate in the race, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

With the numbers little changed from two weeks ago when Toomey held a 49% to 41% lead, the race remains one Rasmussen predicts will change hands.

"In surveys since early February, Toomey s support has ranged from 42% to 49%. Except for a brief surge following his mid-May primary victory over incumbent Senator Arlen Specter, Sestak's support in that same period has run from 36% to 42%," Rasmussen noted. Full story at LifeNews.com

Australia Report Shows Abortion Drug Failing, Women Suffering Health Problems
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new report issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration, the Australian agency that monitors the approval and usage of drugs in the island nation, shows usage of the abortion pill has shot up following its approval. The report indicates the drug has failed frequently and put women's health at risk.

TGA data indicate usage of the abortion drug shot up following the authorization during the second half of 2009 for a company to distribute the drug nationally.

Since the RU 486 abortion drug was initially approved four years ago, there have been more than 3,000 abortions associated with it, though most of the abortions occurred in the latter half of last year. Figures covering 2010, once they are released, could show the percentage of abortions using the drug increasing further as it becomes more mainstreamed.

There are currently 81 physicians who have signed up to disseminate the two-part abortion drug commonly known as RU 486, including Marie Stopes Abortion centers throughout the country.

The Australian newspaper indicates there were 1,154 unborn children who were killed using the abortion drug in New South Wales, Queensland saw 323 abortions involving the pill and there were 412 in Victoria.

However, the usage of the abortion drug did not come without medical problems for women. Full story at LifeNews.com

South Carolina Pro-Life Group Backs Nikki Haley for Governor, Opposes Abortion
Columbia, SC (LifeNews.com) -- The South Carolina Citizens for Life state political action committee, LIFEPAC, has issued an endorsement for pro-life gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley. The group said the "endorsement reflects Mrs. Haley s commitment to renewing a culture of life."

Haley submitted a 100 percent pro-life survey to South Carolina Citizens for Life and the statewide group says she "has a strong voting record on pro-life issues during her service in the S.C. House of Representatives."

"As Governor, her support will be needed to reverse the pro-abortion and rationing effects of the Obama health care legislation," the organization told LifeNews.com.

Haley's campaign web site specifically mentions right-to-life issues and her opposition to the Obama health care reform bill that contains abortion funding pro-life groups have already had to stop in three states. Full story at LifeNews.com

Right to "Privacy" Has Men Hurting, Killing Women Who Refuse Abortions
by Maria Vitale

It s the dirty little secret the abortion industry doesn't want you to know about.

Under the cloak of the so-called right to privacy, women are being bullied into abortions.

Take the case of a woman from Pennsylvania, who refused her boyfriend s demands that she abort her child. His response? He began hitting her in the back. As she tried to block his punches, his hand bruised her arm.

But the violence did not end there. He struck her with his closed fist, telling her that if she screamed, he would give her something to scream about. According to police, the victim, who was five months pregnant, said her assailant said she was forcing him to have this baby and she should respect that he wants her to have an abortion. Since she won't respect his request to have an abortion, he won't respect her.

This is what Roe v. Wade has wrought disrespect for women, both inside and outside the womb.

The West Pottsgrove man is now in jail, charged with first-degree felony charges of aggravated assault of an unborn child, harassment, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, and other charges. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Advocates Detained for Opposing Abortion at California High School
Nipomo, CA (LifeNews.com) -- Members of the pro-life group Survivors were detained on Monday for holding signs showing pictures of babies victimized by abortions and sharing the pro-life message on public sidewalks with students in front of Nipomo High School, in this central California city.

The activists offered literature to students as they left the school, many of whom requested the pro-life information from the windows of their parents' cars, as their parents were picking them up.

The members of the pro-life group were approached by campus administrators and guards shortly after school dismissal and instructed to leave the area or face arrest.

Principal Johnson and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Deputy Holzier claimed first that the pro-life advocates were on school property, then that they were in violation of the school's safety zone, and then that the team had caused a campus disturbance because the school administration had received many calls from angry parents.

Deputy Holzier prevented team members Kristina Garza and Daniel Rivera from participating in outreach for at least twenty minutes. Full story at LifeNews.com
