Polls Have Pro-Life Senate Candidates in Key States Leading Abortion Backers
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new slate of polls conducted by Pulse Opinion Research for Fox News finds pro-life candidates for U.S. Senate seats in four states faring well. The states have some of the biggest matchups in the November 2010 elections as pro-life advocates hope to take control of Congress or reduce the pro-abortion advantage.

The polls show good news for pro-life advocates in West Virginia, Nevada, Ohio and Missouri.

In West Virginia, even popular Gov. Joe Manchin can't escape the very high negative ratings pro-abortion President Barack Obama has accumulated there.

The new poll shows pro-life candidate John Raese with a 5-point lead over Manchin in the race to replace pro-abortion Sen. Robert Byrd in the once reliably Democratic state. Raese's lead comes before a local scandal that threatens to erode Manchin's support further.

Nevada has had one of the most competitive Senate races -- with pro-life Sharron Angle taking on pro-abortion Democratic leader Harry Reid. The survey shows Angle seems to be solidifying her support as she drew 49 percent to 45 percent for Reid. Full story at LifeNews.com

40 Days for Life Pro-Life Campaign Results in Saving 138 Babies From Abortion
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The national 40 Days for Life campaign continues producing live-saving dividends for the hundreds of cities where local pro-life people are praying and helping women outside abortion centers find alternatives. Organizers say that they can confirm 138 babies have been spared from abortion so far.

"Thus far during this current 40 Days for Life campaign, we have reports of 138 lives that have been saved from abortion -- that we know of," organizer Shawn Carney said in an email to LifeNews.com and participants.

Carney shared the story of a couple in Las Vegas, Nevada who decided against an abortion after receiving help in the form of a free ultrasound from a neighboring pregnancy center.

"The 40 Days for Life vigil in Las Vegas is held outside an abortion center that is on a cul-de-sac," he explained. "Just next to the abortion center is First Choice Pregnancy Center. Anyone going to the abortion facility has to drive right past this pregnancy
center first."

"A young couple drove through the parking lot slowly -- twice -- checking out both First Choice and the abortion center. The second time through, one of the pro-life volunteers told them they could get a free ultrasound at First Choice," he continued. "They accepted the offer, saw the ultrasound -- and confirmed to vigil participants that they are choosing life for their child." Full story at LifeNews.com

British Pundit Virginia Ironside: "Smother Disabled Child With Pillow," Use Abortion
London, England (LifeNews.com) -- British television pundit Virginia Ironside is drawing gasps from pro-life advocates from across the globe for advocating killing disabled children. She said any "good mother" would smother a disabled child with a pillow because of the frustration bringing up such a baby would pose.

"If I were the mother of a suffering child -- I mean a deeply suffering child -- I would be the first to want to put a pillow over its face," Ironside said in a video clip of a new BBC television interview she gave.

"If it was a child I really loved, who was in agony, I think any good mother would," she adds.

The host of the program was so shocked by the statement, that, as another guest was about to be introduced, she called the remarks a "horrifying thing."

But Ironside went further -- advocating abortions for children who are diagnosed in the womb with severe disabilities.

"If a baby s going to be born severely disabled or totally unwanted, surely an abortion is the act of a loving mother," she said. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Leaders Sign Statement Against Abortion Truce Daniels, Barbour Back
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The pushback continues against the statements potential Republican presidential candidates Mitch Daniels and Hailey Barbour made promoting a truce on social issues, including abortion. Today a coalition of leaders of pro-life groups sign a statement saying there can never be a truce on abortion.

Members of the Vote Pro-Life Coalition include such pro-life heavyweights as Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, Bradley Mattes of Life Issues Institute, and Peggy Hartshorn of Heartbeat International.

"Some pro-life politicians and candidates for office have drawn national attention by calling for a truce on abortion to allow them to concentrate on jobs, housing and other issues, they said in a statement released to LifeNews.com.

"This is a proposal the Vote Pro-Life Coalition cannot accept. There can be no truce," they said resolutely.

"A truce would suggest there are issues more important than life, that abortion is somehow a negotiable issue. It is not. In fact, the heart and core and foundation of every issue is precisely the dignity of the human person and his or her right to life," the pro-life coalition's statement continued.

"We reiterate the necessity of electing pro-life candidates; such candidates never shy away from explicitly dealing with the abortion issue," the groups maintained. Full story at LifeNews.com

Group Launches 600K Campaign to Target Pro-Abortion, "Pro-Life" Democrats
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life organization launched a new election campaign today designed to educate voters on how a group of pro-abortion and "pro-life" Democrats supported the ObamaCare law that contains abortion funding. Americans United for Life is getting involved in 12 congressional districts.

AUL Action's $600,000 Life Counts campaign will combine online grassroots organizing, a radio ad campaign, and email blasts to voters in the districts.

The group will reach out to pro-life voters in the closing weeks of the 2010 election cycle and, as AUL tells LifeNews.com, the campaign will be "holding politicians responsible for their support of taxpayer-funded abortion established in President Obama s new health care law."

Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to taxpayer-funded abortion, AUL president Charmaine Yoest told LifeNews.com. Candidates who supported the largest expansion of federal funding of abortion ever are going to find out that in this election, Life Counts.

Yoest said the AUL national campaign is a "targeted effort to remind voters in key battleground districts where their candidates stand on this critical issue." Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Gets Millions for Teen "Pregnancy Prevention"
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The nation's largest abortion business is one of the biggest promoters of contraception and birth control and makes money from doing more than one-fourth of the nation's abortions. Despite that, several Planned Parenthood affiliates have received federal funding for "teen pregnancy prevention."

When President Barack Obama gained control of the White House, he moved quickly to begin zeroing out funding for abstinence education programs and shifting the funding to groups promoting "comprehensive" sexual education.

Last week, Obama's "Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative" doled out some of the tens of millions of dollars in funding to these groups.

Jeanne Monahan, director of the Center for Human Dignity at the Family Research Council, told OneNewsNow that 15 Planned Parenthood affiliates were awarded $19 million in grants either directly or as a subcontractor.

"I was troubled just to see in these grants that we're supposed to be very open to abstinence education and abstinence-centered programs -- [and yet] Planned Parenthood got a pretty hefty chunk of money," she said. "Washington State alone got $4 million." Full story at LifeNews.com

Poll: Tea Party Members Pro-Life on Abortion, Oppose Barack Obama More
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Tea Party movement is, in some ways, defining the 2010 election by virtue of its opposition to expanding government, ObamaCare and desire to remove incumbent elected officials. But the question for some pro-life advocates is whether the movement is merely fiscally libertarian or also pro-life.

The Public Religion Research Institute conducted a wide-scale national survey of members of the Team Party movement to determine the makeup of those who say they are affiliated with it.

It is the first survey to measure in-depth what self-described Tea Party movement members say about themselves and it finds the movement is more conservative than libertarian, strongly Republican, and strongly Christian.

Compared with the general public, Tea Party members are decidedly pro-life -- with 63 percent saying abortion should become illegal in all cases (26 percent) or most cases (37%) compared with just 35 percent taking a pro-abortion position saying all abortions should remain legal (8%) or legal in most cases (27%).

PRRI's survey compared those results with self-described Christian conservative voters and found Tea Party members were less pro-life but not by a considerable amount.

Christian conservative, or evangelical, voters come in at a 69 percent pro-life clip (29 percent wanting all abortions illegal and 41 percent wanting most) while just 28 percent say they want all (6%) or most (22%) abortions legal. Full story at LifeNews.com

California Senate Poll: Boxer Drops Back to Tossup Against Carly Fiorina
Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) -- After jumping out to a lead that was outside the margin of error, pro-abortion California Senate candidate Barbara Boxer has dropped back to a tossup with pro-life candidate Carly Fiorina. The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of likely voters has the race back within the margin of error.

The poll shows Boxer picking up 49% of the vote, but the bad news for Fiorina is that is her highest level of support since mid-July.

Fiorina earns 45% support from California voters while two percent support another candidate and five percent remain undecided.

"Two weeks ago, Boxer held a similar four-point edge - 47% to 43% - over Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard. In surveys since February, Boxer, a member of the Senate since 1993, has earned 42% to 49% of the vote. Fiorina has picked up 38% to 48% support in those same surveys," pollster Scott Rasmussen said. Practitioner Now Faces Lawsuit, Woman Committed Suicide After Abortion
Trenton, NJ (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion business owner and practitioner Steven Chase Brigham already faces legal troubles in three states over botched abortions and his avoidance of state health and safety laws. Now he faces a lawsuit from the family of a woman who committed suicide after suffering depression following an abortion.

Brigham faces a lawsuit from an aggrieved family, whose youngest daughter committed suicide after an abortion his performed on her and her baby.

Operation Rescue notified LifeNews.com today that George Zallie Sr. claims that neither Brigham nor his staff warned his daughter, Stacy, of the facts about abortion. A wealth of research data shows women who have abortions are have higher rates of depression, PTSD, drug and alcohol abuse, and suicide ideation than women who keep their baby.

Zallie says that his daughter tried to commit suicide four times after her abortion by Brigham in July 2001, and she ultimately took her own live in October 2002.

"We lost our youngest child and our first grandchild," Zallie told reporters. Full story at LifeNews.com

Alabama Pro-Life Group Endorses Candidates in Upcoming 2010 Elections
Montgomery, AL (LifeNews.com) -- When pro-life voters go to the polls in Alabama in November, the political action committee of Alabama Citizens For Life hopes they will keep in mind a list of its endorsed candidates. The group, and its parent group National Right to Life have endorsed a list both federal and state candidates.

For Senate, the pro-life groups support Sen. Richard Shelby in his bid for re-election, where polls show he should have no trouble.

In the races for Congress, the pro-life candidates the groups support include incumbent Reps. Robert Aderholt, Spencer Bacchus, Joe Bonner, Bobby Bright, and Mike Rogers.

Mo Brooks, who won the Republican primary and, if elected, would replace pro-life Rep. Parker Griffith, also has the support of the pro-life groups.

Looking at the statewide races, Alabama Citizens For Life is supporting Robert Bentley in his race against Ron Sparks in their battle to replace term-limited pro-life Gov. Bob Riley.

Kay Ivey, the state treasurer, has the ACL endorsement for Lieutenant Governor, Luther Strange has the attorney general nod, Beth Chapman is the pro-life candidate for Secretary of State, and John McMillan has the endorsement for state agricultural commissioner. Full story at LifeNews.com
