Deja Vu: Pro-Life Democrats to Determine ObamaCare Pushback
In a bit of Deja vu, it appears two pro-life Democrats will play a key role in determining how hard the new Congress will push back against ObamaCare and its abortion funding.

Republicans captured the House of Representatives in last week s congressional elections thereby giving pro-life advocates inroads to toppling or limiting the reach of ObamaCare and its abortion funding.

But the Senate, where GOP candidates fell short in their efforts to both defeat pro-abortion Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and to wrest control of the chamber, will likely decide the unpopular health care law s fate.

Yesterday, pro-life Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa said what pro-life advocates know but would rather not have to admit: the Senate will stand in the way of repealing ObamaCare.

I think the House will pass a repeal of the ObamaCare. But I believe it will die in the Senate because there s not 60 votes in the Senate for it, he told Iowa radio station KCIM. And even if it passed Congress, I think the president would veto it and so we wouldn t get two-thirds to ride the veto. Full story at LifeNews.com

Battle Begins for Republican Party Chairman, Could Decide Obama s Fate
With the 2010 elections having concluded and with current pro-life Republican Party chairman Michael Steele facing questions of his handling of the party, the battle is beginning for who will run the show.
The chairmanship of the GOP is important because the party apparatus will lay the groundwork for the massive get out the vote campaign necessary to defeat pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

Steele is pro-life, but he has disappointed many grassroots conservatives by a lackluster fundraising effort and a poor get out the vote effort that is cited by some election experts as hurting pro-life Senate candidates in Washington, Colorado, West Virginia and elsewhere.

He has been beset by a string of gaffes and will likely face stiff competition to keep his post which he has said he wants to do.

Steele received his first challenger in Michigan RNC committeeman and former state party chairman Saul Anuzis, who ran against Steele in the last election for party chairman. Full story at LifeNews.com

Likely Speaker John Boehner Joins Lawsuit Against Pro-Abortion ObamaCare
House Republican leader John Boehner, the man who will likely replace pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi, filed legal papers today to support the lawsuit against the ObamaCare law that will fund abortions.

Boehner s brief supports a lawsuit filed by 20 state attorneys general and the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the nation s largest small business association.

I m proud to stand with these states and the NFIB on behalf of America s workers in the revolt against this job-killing health care law, Boehner said, emphasizing his economic opposition to the measure.

For pro-life advocates, the legislation is a concern because its lack of limits on abortion funding are expected to usher in what pro-life groups have called the biggest expansion of abortion funding since Roe once its provisions are fully implemented.

Boehner s legal paper requests leave from the trial judge to file an amicus brief challenging the constitutionality of the individual mandate at the heart of the ObamaCare law. Full story at LifeNews.com

Catholic Bishops to Elect New President After Abortion Battles
The Fall General Assembly of the U.S. Conference of Catholic bishops is nearly ready to begin and the Catholic church leaders will have to decide on a new president who will lead them after some major abortion battles.

The slate of candidates includes one pro-life champion and one bishop who lay pro-life Catholic leaders say presents some concerns.

Held every three years, the elections produce a president and vice president who speak for the bishops for the next three years that will cover the re-election bid of pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

The last three years saw the bishops having to instruct voters about voting priorities at a time when electing the first black American president conflicted with the need to protect unborn children and the Catholic Church s teachings on the importance of pro-life concerns compared with other political issues.

The bishops also had to weigh in on Obama s appearance at the most recognized Catholic college the University of Notre Dame where he attempted to cover up the extent of his abortion promotion. Full story at LifeNews.com

Thirty Studies in Five Years Show Abortion Hurts Women s Mental Health
by Dr. Priscilla Coleman
On Sunday November 7th, the Washington Post published an opinion by Dr. Brenda Major titled The Big Lie about Abortion and Mental Health.

I would like to offer another perspective on dishonesty permeating the scientific study and dissemination of information pertaining to abortion and mental health.

Dr. Major is absolutely correct; an informed choice regarding abortion must be based on accurate information.

For abortion providers to offer an unbiased and valid synopsis of the scientific literature on increased risks of abortion, the information must include depression, substance abuse, and anxiety disorders, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), as well as suicide ideation and behaviors.

Over 30 studies have been published in just the last 5 years and they add to a body of literature comprised of hundreds of studies published in major medicine and psychology journals throughout the world. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Groups in Iowa, Maryland Push Back Against Late-Term Abortionist
Nebraska-based late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart may be hoping to expand his abortion business to Iowa and Maryland but pro-life groups in both states promised to push back.

As LifeNews.com initially reported, Carhart says he plans to open new abortion centers in the two states and take over an existing one in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jenifer Bowen, the director of Iowa Right to Life, says the 2010 elections put the pro-life movement in a position to promote legislation like the fetal pain bill in Nebraska that bans abortions after 20 weeks and is prompting Carhart s proposed relocation.

A seeming blow like this, a late-term abortionist set to move his killing into the state, I believe will actually work in our favor, she said. I can say with confidence that the majority of Iowans do not want ours to be seen as a safe haven state for a late- term abortionist. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life People Should Make Their Communities Unwelcome for Abortion
by Brad Mattes
One of the nation s late-term abortionists is on the run. Having worn out his welcome in Nebraska, LeRoy Carhart announced plans to take his grisly practice elsewhere.

Carhart says he s trying to escape the harassment of legal courts, so he s set his eye on Iowa, Indiana and the DC area.

Carhart s problems began earlier this year when Nebraska banned abortions after 20 weeks, based on clear scientific evidence the baby feels pain. This had made his filthy old abortion mill less profitable. Though pro-abortion activists insist the new law is unconstitutional, they aren t willing to risk a lawsuit. Suppose the case goes to the Supreme Court. Suppose they lose. Suppose not just Nebraska, but all 50 states ban late-term abortions. That d put Carhart out of business. Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Law is Family Law Since It s Not in the Constitution
by Helen Alvare
Abortion law is usually seen as a matter of constitutional law. Is it time for that to change?

Questions about abortion and the law are usually seen as matters of constitutional law. Constitutional law, however, seems ill-suited. This is not only because the U.S. Supreme Court discovered a constitutional right for something that had been banned by most states for most of the nation s history. It is also because the privacy right encompassing abortion frames the issue as a struggle between the state and the woman over her right to define her life, her future, or even her concept of the universe, in the famous words of the Casey Court.

But it is becoming increasingly apparent that abortion is about family relationships, not simply a contest between the state and a woman who happens to be pregnant. Scientific discoveries about human development and the testimonies of women who have had or have considered an abortion suggest that it is family law rather than constitutional law that provides the best means of understanding the issue of abortion. Youth Pro-Life Organizations Reaffirm Pro-Life Unity
by Kristan Hawkins
Over the past two decades, the student pro-life movement has grown to a critical mass. Today, there are more youth pro-life groups in high schools and college campuses than ever before.

Nationally, voters aged 18-29 are polling pro-life even more than their parents generation.

Each summer, Students for Life of America opens its Missionary for Life and William Wilberforce Leadership Fellowship trainings with the same lecture: pro-life history. During the lecture, I speak about the successes and failures our movement has had since 1973. And I speak about the various disagreements that pro-life organizations have had about varying strategies and tactics. The lecture is not sugar coated. Full story at LifeNews.com

Michigan House OKs Bills After Dumping of Aborted Babies
The Michigan legislature has taken the first step in responding to the dumping of the bodies of babies killed in abortions at abortion centers in the state.

Michigan people were shocked and saddened to learn that bodies of 17 aborted babies were found thrown into a dumpster at a Lansing-area abortion business. The news received public attention last month after announcements from investigations by the Attorney General and county sheriff departments.

The news created more interest in a package of bills in the Michigan legislature that would require that the remains of aborted or miscarried children to be disposed of in a dignified manner, Right to Life of Michigan indicated. Full story at LifeNews.com.
