Gallup Poll Shows Barack Obama Got No Bump Following State of the Union
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Gallup daily presidential approval tracking poll shows pro-abortion President Barack Obama received no bump in his approval ratings following his State of the Union speech.

In the three days following the speech, Gallup shows Obama with a 48 percent approval and 46 percent disapproval rating -- unchanged from before the address.

Philip Klein, a writer at the conservative magazine American Spectator gives his insight on the poll.

"Going into President Obama's first State of the Union speech, Gallup noted that annual speeches to Congress rarely affect presidential approval ratings (in large part because the audience tends to be skewed toward those who already support him). It turns out that despite his oratorical skills, our current president is not different in this respect from his predecessors," he writes.

The new Gallup poll shows Obama is "exactly where he was in the three days of polling proceeding the speech," he said.

Klein continues, "What this tells us is that Obama has reached the point in his presidency at which he'll no longer be able to boost public opinion through talking -- he's being judged based on his objective performance. Monthly job reports will have much more impact on public perception than anything he can say or proposal he could make."

Another poll, from Rasmussen, shows Obama got a slight bump but only from Democrats. Full story at LifeNews.com

New York Times Defends Pro-Life Ad Featuring Tim Tebow, Mom's Non-Abortion
New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- The New York Times is no bastion of pro-life thought and has taken a consistently aggressive pro-abortion stance over the years. In what may come as a shock to pro-life advocates, the liberal newspaper issued an editorial today taking abortion advocates to task for blasting an ad featuring Tim Tebow.

As LifeNews.com has reported, the ad, sponsored by Focus on the Family, will reportedly focus on the story of Tebow's birth.

Tebow's mother, Pam Tebow, rejected a doctor's suggestion to get an abortion when she became ill on a missions trip to the Philippines during her pregnancy with Tim. Tebow gave birth to Tim and he famously won the 2007 Heisman Trophy and led the Florida Gators to a college football championship.

The Focus on the Family ad has drawn attacks from abortion advocates, who have called on CBS to cancel its plans to allow the ad to air before and after the Super Bowl, and feminist attorney Gloria Allred has made the claim Pam Tebow made up her story about rejecting an abortion.

The New York Times weighed in on the debate in an official editorial titled "Super Bowl Censorship."

"The National Organization for Women, NARAL Pro-Choice America and other voices ... have called on CBS to yank it," the Times editorial board wrote. "Their protest is puzzling and dismaying." Full story at LifeNews.com

Scott Brown Says He Supports Abortion, Limits, and Opposes Health Care Bill
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Scott Brown was hailed as aiding the pro-life cause by becoming the 41st vote for the filibuster against the pro-abortion Senate health care bill. While Brown's surprising victory in Massachusetts helped stall or possibly defeat the bill Brown confirmed today that, unlike most Republicans, he backs abortion.

Brown's comments are not surprising since his support for Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court case that allowed more than 52 million abortions, was already part of the discussion during the special election.

But, pro-life advocates noted he faced an even more aggressive supporter of abortion in Martha Coakley who would have supported the bill and its funding for perhaps hundreds of thousands of abortions.

In a new interview with ABC's "This Week" program, Brown says he supports abortion but opposes forcing taxpayers to fund it.

"Yes, I feel this issue is best handled between a woman and her doctor and her family," he said when asked if he is "pro-choice."

While he backs abortion he said he would side with pro-life advocates on limits such as parental involvement and a partial-birth abortion ban, which was already signed into law under President George W. Bush.

"And, you know, Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, but I think we need to do more to reduce the amount of abortions. And the difference between me and maybe others is that I'm very -- I'm against partial-birth abortions. I'm against federal funding of abortions. And I believe in a strong parental consent notification law," Brown added. "And we should do more for adoptions." Full story at LifeNews.com

Senator Says Deal Was Reached on Pro-Abortion Health Care Before Brown Win
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In one of the first concrete confirmations that the election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts disrupted the effort to approve the pro-abortion health care bill, a top senator says a deal was in place to approve it but Brown's election prevented it from going forward. Sen. Tom Harkin, the chairman of the Senate Health Committee, said negotiators from the White House, Senate and House reached a final deal on healthcare reform days before Scott Brown s victory.

But with Brown becoming the 41st vote in the Senate against the bill and for a filibuster, the latest revelation shows how agonizingly close Democrats came to passing a final healthcare bill in time for President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.

Harkin, who was present for the talks, told The Hill we had an agreement, with the House, the White House and the Senate. We sent it to [the Congressional Budget Office] to get scored and then Tuesday happened and we didn't get it back. He said negotiators had an agreement in hand on Friday, January 15. Harkin made clear that negotiators had reached a final deal on the entire bill.

Now, Democratic lawmakers have since turned their attention to passing a comprehensive -- instead of a scaled-down -- healthcare bill, using the reconciliation process to make changes and approving smaller bills as a lead-in to that controversial idea.Full story at LifeNews.com

Emily's List President Still Shocked by Defeat of Pro-Abortion Zealot Martha Coakley
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Outgoing Emily's List president Ellen Malcolm is still shocked by the defeat of pro-abortion stalwart Martha Coakley in Massachusetts of all states. As Malcolm concludes her tenure with the large pro-abortion group, she talked about the shocking defeat with CQ.

I think the low point was this week, Malcolm said of her involvement with the group since 1985. The high points? Oh my gosh, we've had so many hard-fought victories that we're so proud of. Obviously, the year of the woman in 1992 was historic. It s all hindsight, Malcolm said after the loss. When there was a 19-point lead on Dec. 22, did we think it was going be in free-fall in the second week of January? Absolutely not. And nobody else did, either. And anybody who says it is blowing smoke.

Malcolm bragged that Emily's List was the first to rally behind Coakley when her numbers began dropping but her group's efforts were obviously not enough to help her win. When we did see the problem, we were the first off the mark trying to solve it. We were the first independent group on our side to go up with a media buy," she claimed.

Malcolm also confessed she hid a photo of her grandson posing with then-Sen. Barack Obama during the 2008 Democratic primary while her group failed in its bid to get Hillary Clinton the nomination. Full story at LifeNews.com

Atheists Attack Post Office Honoring Mother Teresa on Postage Stamp
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Honoring pro-life champion Mother Teresa on a postage stamp shouldn't be a big controversy given her highly-respected work for the poor. But not when it comes to atheists who are upset that the Post Office would dare honor a religious figure. As LifeNews.com reported, the USPS Mother Teresa stamp is one of 23 new issues the United States Postal Service recently unveiled for 2010.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation complains that the USPS is ignoring its own stamp honoree rules which prohibit honoring people for their direct religious work. As FFRF leader Annie Laurie Gaylor told FoxNews.com, "Mother Teresa is principally known as a religious figure who ran a religious institution. You can't really separate her being a nun and being a Roman Catholic from everything she did."

USPS spokesman Roy Betts responds, "This has nothing to do with religion or faith. Mother Teresa is not being honored because of her religion, she's being honored for her work with the poor and her acts of humanitarian relief." (Actually, the Postal Service press release notes that she followed "a divine inspiration."

At First Things, Joe Carter goes further and says "Mother Teresa should certainly appear on a stamp -- but only after we change the law. We shouldn't look for loopholes that require denying the importance of her faith in order for her to qualify. Mother Teresa should be honored for who she really was -- a Catholic nun motivated by the love of Christ -- and not as a faux, secular saint." Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Advocates Criticize Each Other, Say Wrong Strategy Used on Health Care
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates are now criticizing each other in a rare expression of public disagreement. American Prospect senior correspondent Michelle Goldberg has written a column where some pro-abortion activists are criticizing members of Congress and pro-abortion groups for saying the compromise language in the health care bills backs up the Hyde amendment that stops abortion funding. They are upset that the pro-abortion movement would yield any ground on abortion funding, which it zealously supports.

Goldberg writes "the pro-choice movement loses" because it "can't rally behind the existing legislation," but "[a]t the same time, because the future of abortion rights in America is deeply entwined with the future of the Democratic Party, the failure of health care reform, and the consequent weakening of the Democrats, would ultimately be disastrous for choice."

Goldberg questions whether the current health reform situation was "inevitable," noting that it is "increasingly clear" that the pro-abortion movement "made a mistake going into health care reform" because it "compromised too soon and underestimated the implacability of the opposition." The movement "didn't demand enough and ended up with less than nothing" when leaders "decided to try to take abortion off the table" with an amendment "aimed to preserve the status quo while avoiding new restrictions on abortion funding."

Center for Reproductive Rights President Nancy Northup said, "I think without question it was a mistake to begin in a compromised position."Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion, Obama and the Partisan Divide: Why We Can't Let Him Win
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The following remarks were delivered by pro-life Princeton Professor Robert George at the annual Rose dinner associated with the March for Life:

"The Republican Party's support for the unborn has brought into its ranks many disaffected rank-and-file Democrats, including a large number of Catholics and Evangelicals. I am one. Indeed, it overstates the matter only a bit to say that, as a result of the conflict of worldviews that began with abortion, the Republicans have become the party of the religiously engaged, while the Democrats have become the party of liberal secularists. Barack Obama is trying to win over religiously serious Catholics and Evangelicals, without altering in the slightest his support for abortion, including late-term and partial-birth abortions, the funding of abortion and embryo-destructive research with taxpayer dollars, the elimination of informed consent and parental notification laws, and the revocation of conscience and religious liberty protections for pro-life doctors and other healthcare workers and pharmacists.

He will ultimately fail. We must see to it that he fails. In this project, Obama is being served and abetted by a small number of Catholic and Evangelical intellectuals and activists who have been peddling the claim that Obama, despite his pro-abortion extremism, is effectively pro-life because of his allegedly enlightened economic and social policies will reduce the number of abortions. This is delusional. The truth is that Barack Obama is the most extreme pro-abortion candidate ever to serve in the United States Senate or seek the Office of President of the United States." Texas' Kay Bailey Hutchinson Again Endorses Roe Abortion Case in Debate
Austin, TX (LifeNews.com) -- In the second Republican gubernatorial debate, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison was once again asked explicitly whether she supported the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion. She answered, "No." Joe Pojman, executive director of Texas Alliance for Life, told LifeNews.com last week that that separates her from pro-life Gov. Rick Perry. "At the gubernatorial debate, Senator Hutchison contradicted herself.
You cannot be pro-life and support Roe v. Wade," he said.

Pojman pointed out how, in 2003, Hutchison showed her support for legalized abortion by voting for a resolution that stated, "It is the sense of the Senate that the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade was appropriate and secures an important constitutional right; and such decision should not be overturned."

Gov. Rick Perry, on the other hand, is on the record as both supporting limits on abortion and supporting overturning Roe. "Texas needs a leader who is consistently pro-life," continues Pojman. "Unlike Hutchison, Governor Rick Perry has never given an inch to the life-threatening precepts of Roe v. Wade."Full story at LifeNews.com

Virginia House Passes Bill for Better Regulations of Abortion Centers
Richmond, VA (LifeNews.com) -- The Virginia House has approved a bill that would put better regulations of abortion centers in place and could result in closing abortion facilities that don't meet the standards. Last week, the House of Delegates passed by a vote of 72-25 HB 393, patroned by Delegate Matt Lohr.

The measure would put unregulated abortion centers under three simple regulations: licensure, an annual inspection, and to have life saving equipment on premises, such as defibrillators. During debate, opposition came from one of the General Assembly s biggest pro-abortion advocates, Delegate David Englin. He tried to make the case that unregulated abortion centers are regulated. But Delegate Lohr correctly replied that, if so, then the simple requirements in the bill would not be cause for concern to the abortion centers.

Delegate Englin then tried to paint a picture of hypocrisy by stating that doctors offices of various specialties are not regulated by the state. However, as Delegate Lohr responded, specific boards govern each medical specialty. But there are no recognized boards that institute standards for abortionists. The bill now goes to the Senate where it most likely will be referred to the Education and Health Committee. Although pro-life bills typically meet a dismal fate there, pro-life groups say they will fight for it.Full story at LifeNews.com

Bill to Repeal South Dakota Embryonic Stem Cell Research Ban Involves Deception
by Bob Ellis

Pierre, SD (LifeNews.com) --
A bill has been introduced in the South Dakota legislature to repeal the state ban on embryonic stem cell research (ESCR). We knew this was coming because a few months ago a group led by David Volk announced they were planning to seek a repeal either through a petition effort or through the legislature. In fact, this is something that is beginning to take place in several states across the country.

On January 21, SB 74 was introduced in the South Dakota Senate. Of course, it makes no mention of embryonic stem cell research or a different, non-destructive type of stem cell research called adult stem cell research; it lumps stem cell research into one disingenuous lump.

The Rapid City Journal features an opinion piece today from Volk, arguing for passage of the bill. Volk makes the typical emotional appeal about suffering people who could be cured, if only the public would get over it s archaic value of forms of human life that others don't consider worthy of protection. Putting aside for a moment some very real practical problems with embryonic stem cell research (such as problems with tissue rejection and with tumor generation in the recipient), and the benefit of the newly discovered ability to program adult stem cells to act like embryonic ones, Volk tells some real whoppers in this opinion piece. News from the Trenches: "we were blessed with 3 saves at Family Planning Associates"

abortion protest in San Francisco - 479Image by Steve Rhodes via Flickr

She Reached Over and Squeezed Roger's Hand

Family Planning Associates, San Diego – Jan. 23

It was two days after Bishop Brom celebrated a Mass in San Diego for the protection of the unborn, the day after pro-lifers held a public prayer rally on Harbor Drive, and while 35,000 people were still marching for life in San Francisco on Saturday morning, that we were blessed with 3 saves at Family Planning Associates on Mirmar Road. We had two sidewalk counselors and 16 prayer warriors throughout the morning, including four children.

Today, we had the police called on us, which was the first time in a long time. Knowing we were not breaking any laws, they didn't stay long. The guard was new and had no idea what he was doing, when his own supervisor came out and drove up to Terry, asking her if his guard was causing trouble for her again. He told her he would take care of it and not to worry. After a brief, congenial conversation, Terry thanked him and he left. We know that when we have (four) children come out as prayer warriors and the police show up, it may be a sign the battle is on, and Our Lady is going to win in a big way.

It started out a tough morning, with many people refusing to stop or roll down their car windows. Roger spoke with a Hispanic couple in their early 20s. The couple had a one-and-a-half-year-old child, who was not with them at the time. When asked, the woman said she was there for an abortion because of many reasons, financial being one of them. Roger told them about Culture of Life Family Services and that they could get pre-natal care for free if money was an issue. After relating that the new baby would be as dear to her as her other child and that each baby is a unique person, they seemed to soften. They said they would talk about it, and seemed to be leaning toward leaving. They parked, but after about 15 minutes they were seen going into the mill. We prayed that they would change their minds and come out, which often happens once you have planted the seeds of doubt. We kept an eye out for them, but after about 10 minutes it became busy at the front entrance as another wave of cars came in, and we lost track of whether or not they stayed.

Terry spoke with two young women, telling them the story of the abortionist's license suspensions and malpractice lawsuits, and about many of the young women she has spoken to in the past who had problems at Family Planning Associates, and those who had chosen to go to Culture of Life. She also spoke to them about the challenges/pressures they might be facing, but that abortion was not the answer to any problem. She told them that abortion begins a problem they could never anticipate or erase, and then encouraged them to call Culture of Life, where they would be provided with free medical care (if necessary) and any other assistance they needed. They too, parked and went up to the mill. After several minutes they came back down, sat in their car for a long time and then drove out.

Roger spoke with a Hispanic couple F. and J., while Terry pulled another car into the lot right in front of them, so as not to block the driveway. F. and J. told Roger they already had two children under 6. When asked, F. said she was scheduled for an abortion, and the reason was because he (her partner, we're not sure if it was her boyfriend or husband) was going to be deported in March. Roger told them there would always be tough times, jobs and money would come and go, but family is all you can hold on to. He told them that five years from now they would be watching their children playing together and shudder to think how close they came to losing their child. He told them to turn around and leave, and that he would tell Dr. Delgado to expect them Monday morning. They said they would talk, and drove in and parked behind some cars, out of sight.

While this was happening, Terry spoke to the couple in car she had stopped about the horrors of abortion, the horrendous medical record of the abortionist and the alternatives available to them, ones they could live with - no matter what their present problems were. She encouraged them to call Culture of Life and to turn away from this place of danger and death. Instead they pulled in and parked, and went up to the front door of the mill. They stood outside on the balcony talking for several minutes. All of a sudden, the guard appeared, opened the doors to Family Planning Associates and told them to go in. They did not. Instead, they continued to talk and moved closer to the elevator. Eventually, they came down and walked over to their car on the farthest side of the parking lot, away from the mill. With his head down, the young man opened the door for his young Vietnamese girlfriend and they sat in their car for some time. We prayed intently for F. and J. as they remained out of sight, and for the couple Terry spoke with, as they struggled with a life-or-death decision. Our eyes busy with the street, the front door to the mill, and the car with the couple that still did not move, we continued to pray anxiously.

After about 20 minutes, F. and J.'s car, seemingly from out of nowhere, suddenly appeared at the exit driveway. Roger said to the couple "God bless you for making the right decision. I will pray for you". Roger said he would call Culture of Life Family Services to expect them, but the woman said, "You don't need to, I am going to keep the baby." She then she reached over and squeezed Roger's hand, and with tears in her eyes, said, "God bless you for being here!" After what felt like eternity, the couple Terry spoke with slowly drove out the driveway, passing us on Miramar Road and did not return.

Pro-life Groups and Leaders to Hold Prayer Vigil and Witness to Show Public Support For the CBS Decision to Air the Tim Tebow Pro-life Ad During the Super Bowl

NEW YORK, Jan. 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Christian Defense Coalition, Expectant Mother Care and Generation Life to gather outside of the CBS headquarters in New York City on Tuesday, February 2, at 12:15 P.M.

The location is 51 West 52nd Street (Corner of 6th Ave. and 52nd Street) in midtown Manhattan.

These groups join with hundreds of thousands of Americans who have signed petitions and joined on line groups applauding the decision of CBS to air a pro-life ad featuring Tim Tebow and his mother Pam.

The pro-life organizations rip the National Organization for Women and other feminist groups who have shown disdain and open hostility toward women who choose to keep their children and refuse to have abortions.

Their hysterical rants and anger over this ad of a women simply sharing her own personal story to embrace life, shows these groups have no regard for either women or the concept of choice.

The pro-life organizations feel it is important to make a public show of support for CBS and personally thank them for not bowing to the pressure from fringe extremist groups that have little regard for women's or human rights.

New Drug Ellaone Billed as Better Morning After Pill, But It Causes Abortions
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates are pushing a new drug that they say is an expanded morning after pill, or emergency contraception. However, pro-life doctors and advocates say Ellaone, also known as Ulipristal, works as an abortion drug and not an agent that prevents conception.

The morning after pill, or Plan B drug, has been around for years and can either prevent fertilization from occurring or can sometimes act as an abortifacient by killing the unique human being fertilization develops.

Ellaone is different -- instead of working hours or just a couple of days after sexual relations take place as the morning after pill does, it can be used up to five days afterwards.

The drug is becoming popular in Europe and abortion advocates there are pushing it as a better version of the morning after pill.

Ann Furedi, from the British Pregnancy Advisory Service abortion business in the UK, tells the London Daily Mail, "This new type of emergency contraceptive pill is exciting news."

But Josephine Quintavalle, of the Pro-Life Alliance, says Ellaone is not an emergency contraception because it causes an abortion rather than preventing pregnancy.

"If you take a morning-after pill within 24 hours, there is always the argument that the sperm may not have fertilized the egg by then, meaning pregnancy has not yet happened," she told the newspaper. "But if this pill works for five days there is no argument. This is not a contraceptive, it is an abortive agent." Full story at LifeNews.com

NOW Attacks Sarah Palin Over Tim Tebow Ad, Says Women Need Abortions
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Not content to allow former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin to have the last word on the Focus on the Family ad touting Tim Tebow's mother's decision to not have an abortion, the National Organization for Women (NOW) is attacking Palin.

As LifeNews.com reported Palin wrote a lengthy FaceBook post talking up the ad and Pam Tebow's decision to not have an abortion when pregnant with the college football star.

The potential 2012 presidential candidate said the ad and Tebow's decision "empowers women" to choose life when confronted with a difficult pregnancy situation.

Palin continued her criticism of NOW, which has called on CBS to flip-flop on its decision to pull the ad.

"For a pro-life, pro-woman, pro-family ad to be seen as offensive and not empowering women is puzzling," Palin told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren Thursday. "It makes you wonder what is NOW afraid of?"

"It certainly isn't an offensive message," Palin said. "For NOW to have chosen this, [they are] picking a wrong battle I think, to come across sounding quite offended by hearing that a pro-life commercial will air on the Super Bowl, it's baffling." Full story at LifeNews.com

Feminist Gloria Allred Claims Story of Tim Tebow's Mom's Non-Abortion Untrue
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The national attention placed on the Focus on the Family Super Bowl advertisement featuring the heart-wrenching story of Tim Tebow, and his mother's decision not to have an abortion when pregnant with him, is now taking a new turn.

Feminist attorney Gloria Allred has written a letter to CBS asking it to review its plans to allow the commercial before and during the Super Bowl.

In the missive, Allred offers a new objection different from ones abortion advocates have put up to this point.

She contends the story of Tebow's birth is untrue -- that doctors never recommended an abortion for Tebow's mom Pam because she contracted a dangerous disease and that the medicine would affect Tebow during the pregnancy.l

Allred's tells the web site RadarOnline she thinks the ad, which she hasn't seen, may turn out "to be misleading advertising."

In an open letter to Les Moonves, the President and CEO of the CBS Corporation, she bases her contention on the mere fact that abortion is illegal in the Philippines. According to Allred, the doctor would never have suggest Pam get an abortion because he could lose his license for doing so -- even though doctors in nations that protect women and children routinely suggest underground abortions. International Planned Parenthood Pushes "Sexual Rights," Abortion for Children
New York, NY (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- In its new report "Stand and Deliver," the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is demanding that governments, religious institutions and society at large provide "comprehensive sexuality education" for children as young as ten years old.

In a foreword, Bert Koenders of the Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, which helped fund the publication, asserts that, "Young people have the right to be fully informed about sexuality and to have access to contraceptives and other services. These rights are enshrined in various internationally agreed human rights convention and treaties, but unfortunately they are still not universally respected."

According to IPPF, as "young people are sexual beings," it should be self-evident that "sexuality education promotes individual well-being and the advancement of broader societal and public health goals." IPPF argues that "comprehensive sexuality education" must be mandatory in school, and governments must also ensure that this education is delivered to those young people who are out of school.

IPPF claims that "With young people as partners, today's adult decision-makers have the chance to recast sex and sexuality as a positive force for change and development, as a source of pleasure, an embodiment of human rights and an expression of self." Full story at LifeNews.com

Scott Roeder Convicted of Murder in Killing Abortion Practitioner George Tiller
Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- A jury convicted Scott Roeder, who is not affiliated with any pro-life organization, or murder in killing late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller. Roeder entered the Lutheran Church on a Sunday morning last summer and shot him at point-blank range.

Roeder was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault for verbally assaulting two Reformation Lutheran Church members while brandishing the gun on his way out of the church.

The jury only deliberated for 37 minutes this morning before bringing the charges against Roeder, who is not involved in the national pro-life movement.

During the trial, Roeder testified that he shot and killed Tiller because he had grown frustrated that he kept getting off on charges that he was engaging in illegal late-term abortions. His attorneys were hoping to get a lesser charge but District Judge Warren Wilbert ruled that was not in order.

Roeder's attorneys hoped to win a lesser conviction of voluntary manslaughter, which requires a jury to confirm that a defendant had an unreasonable but honest belief that deadly force was justified. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Group Upset Abortion Business Dismisses Woman's Abortion Death
Queens, NY (LifeNews.com) -- A botched legal abortion killed a Hispanic woman earlier this week at a shoddy abortion center in Queens, New York. In an interview with a local newspaper, staff at the abortion center were dismissive of the woman's death, prompting outrage from a pro-life group that monitors abortion facilities.

As LifeNews.com has reported, 37-year-old Alexandra Nuñez was killed after a botched abortion claimed her life at the A-1 Women's Care abortion center located in Jackson Heights.

Despite the abortion death, staff at the abortion center, who did not return a LifeNews.com phone call seeking comment, told the new York Daily News that everything went properly during the abortion procedure and that they are still booking women for abortions.

"The patient was transferred to the hospital, she didn't die at the clinic," a woman from the clinic told the newspaper. "Nothing happened here."

That has Operation Rescue president Troy Newman beside himself. "Nothing happened there -- except fatal injuries during a botched abortion which cost a woman her life," Newman told LifeNews.com.

"It is so typical of abortion clinics to hide the truth, but this time, the truth is out. The clinic is under investigation, and we will be forwarding information about this tragedy to the New York State Medical Board and demand disciplinary action against the abortionist," he said. Attacking Pregnancy Centers: Abortion Advocates Can't Produce a Real Scandal
by Joseph Backholm
Yesterday in Olympia the Senate committee on Health and Long-Term care held a hearing on SB 6452 which seeks to regulate crisis pregnancy centers in a variety of unnecessary and unconstitutional ways.

The bill, promoted by Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights Advocacy League (NARAL), would place a series of regulations on crisis pregnancy centers that would not apply to centers that offer abortion. For those of you following along at home, yes, that is probably unconstitutional.

Still, the hearing allows us to hear the horror stories of what is supposedly going on in crisis pregnancy centers that simply must be stopped.

One Planned Parenthood employee said she was told that "the HIV virus goes through a condom like rice through a tennis racket." Their doctor testified that condoms, when used every time, are 70% successful in preventing HIV. I know I felt a lot better when I learned that only 3 out of 10 "safe-sexers" would contract HIV if exposed.

Another Planned Parenthood employee said that she was told that sexual activity was going to lead to depression, STD's, and possibly even drug and alcohol abuse. Full story at LifeNews.com

Abortion Splits United States, Creates Partisan Divide Between Democrats, GOP
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com/CFAM) -- In Washington last Saturday night, a top legal scholar from Princeton University said that the United States Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion in 1973 led to deep societal divisions as well as to unprecedented political and religious alliances, which will be called on to lead a struggle for the "soul"of the nation once the decision is overturned.

Abortion and embryo-destructive research are at the heart of the divide between the nation s major political parties, Professor Robert George said, galvanizing support for the pro-life plank in the Republican Party while drawing disaffected Democrats to the Republican camp.

In response, Barack Obama is trying to win over religiously serious Catholics and Evangelicals, he said, who united around the pro-life cause, without altering in the slightest his support for abortion, including late-term and partial-birth abortions. Obama s recent attempt to woo religious leaders has support among some left-leaning Catholics who argue that collaboration would lead to fewer abortions, a prospect George called delusional.

George is McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University, a seat once held by US President Woodrow Wilson. George is also the Director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Life Group: Scott Roeder Promoted Violence on Abortion, Not Pro-Life Ethic
Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life organization responded to the guilty verdict a jury handed down today convicting Scott Roeder of first-degree murder in the shooting death of late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller. The National Right to Life Committee strongly condemned Roeder's actions.

As LifeNews.com reported, a jury found Roeder guilty of killing Tiller and two counts of aggravated assault for threatening members of Tiller's church, where Roeder admitted he shot and killed Tiller.

Hundreds of pro-life groups released statements at the time of the shooting last year condemning Roeder and saying his actions didn't constitute the kind of respect for human life they foster.

Today, National Right to Life executive director David O'Steen told LifeNews.com just that.

"The actions last May of which Scott Roeder was just convicted are antithetical to the work of the pro-life movement to protect the lives of unborn children and their mothers," he said. "NRLC strongly opposes any use of violence as a means of stopping the violence that has killed more than 52 million unborn children since 1973." Full story at LifeNews.com

Utah Committee Passes Bill to Allow Women to See Ultrasound Before Abortion
Salt Lake City, UT (LifeNews.com) -- When ultrasound first became popular the question was, would abortions be done if women and society had a window to the womb? A Utah state legislative panels that window open because it passed a bill allowing women a chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn child before an abortion.

When used in pregnancy centers, ultrasounds are credited with helping more than 80 percent of women to reconsider a decision to have an abortion.

Legislators hope many women will be convinced to find positive alternatives by seeing an ultrasound at an abortion center.

HB 200 reworks some of the current informed consent language currently on the books in Utah and makes it so abortion centers must allow women a chance to see an ultrasound before the abortion is done.

The bill also requires abortion facilities to provide a detailed description of the unborn child to the mother considering abortion.

The legislation, sponsored by Republican state Rep. Carl Wimmer, also requires the state Department of Health to produce both printed and video information about the ultrasound viewing that abortion businesses must give women 24 hours in advance of the abortion informing them of their rights to view one. Dear Friends for Life,

A new type of Morning-After Pill is now available in Britain. It is Ulipristal and is reportedly "effective" up to five days after sexual intercourse. It is a chemical alteration of the older pills. The maker, HRA Pharma, admits that "alterations to the endometrium (lining of the womb) may also contribute to its efficiency". That is another way of saying that an already conceived child is prevented from implanting in the womb because the pill has hardened its lining and the embryonic baby dies at the end of its first week of life.

The Australian state of Victoria has voted in its Parliament to remove legal restrictions on abortion up to 24 weeks gestation. In practice, this degree of abortion has already been allowed even though abortion was still in the criminal code. This vote takes it out of the criminal code. Now doctors who conscientiously object to abortion may be subject to criminal penalties.

Some good news: The Congress of the Mexican state of Oaxaca has voted 31-6 to amend the state's constitution. The wording is, "Every human being from the moment of fertilization enters under the protection of the law and is considered the same as one that has been born for all legal effects until his natural death." This is the sixteenth Mexican state to pass such an amendment in the past year. These have all happened since the Mexico DF (Mexico City) decriminalized abortion.

And: The Italian Health Ministry has reported that 70% of the Italian gynecologists now refuse to do abortions, and that the number continues to grow. In the region around Naples, 83% objected, in Sicily, 84%. Probably as a result of this, the total number of abortions over the last couple of years has dropped 3%.

God Bless

(FOCUS ON ASIA): "What Is Poverty, Really? The Case of India" - Countries struggle with measuring the number of people living in poverty. Deciding which figure represents "poverty" is often left up to the individual. India provides an excellent example of the controversial nature of statistical estimates. India also serves as a good example since changes in the country's poverty definition can add hundreds of millions to the global poverty population.

ITEM #1. Critic denounces Guttmacher teen pregnancy study as 'terribly simplistic'

The Guttmacher Institute released a study on Jan. 26 claiming that abstinence-only education programs are to blame for a rise in teen pregnancies and abortions in 2006. However, abstinence education proponent Valerie Huber is denouncing the researchers' conclusions as "terribly simplistic" and "disingenuous."

Almost every marriage starts out as a huge celebration. Together with their family and friends, each couple is full of hopes and dreams for their future life together. But the road to a happy marriage is far from easy. And as today's divorce statistics demonstrate all too well, many couples opt not to complete the journey.

ITEM #12. New Study: Heavily Tattooed Students More Prone to Deviant Behavior

A new study titled "Body Art, Deviance, and American College Students" suggests that people who have multiple tattoos or body piercings are more likely to engage in risky and criminal behavior.

The research by Jerome R. Koch, a sociology professor at Texas Tech University, reveals that those who have four or more tattoos, seven or more body piercings, or one "intimate piercing," are far more prone to use illegal drugs, be arrested for criminal offenses, cheat on college work, binge drink, and have multiple sex partners.
