Dear Friend in Christ,

It's high time that the hypocrisy of "official" Catholics is exposed for all the world to see; not out of a sense of vigilante justice, but out of a sense of charity. These hypocrites are ruining the faith life of others. Please watch this episode of The Vortex and pass it along to as many friends and family as possible.

Assisted Suicide Support Drops to Lowest Level in 8 Years
Gallup released the results of its latest poll today evaluating the views of Americans on various controversial issues or decisions and whether Americans believe they are morally wrong or morally acceptable.

It found the percentage of people who say doctor-assisted suicide is morally acceptable has dropped to its lowest level in 8 years. Currently, 48 percent of Americans say doctor-assisted suicide is morally wrong while just 45 percent say it is morally okay. The views of Americans on the subject has bounced around slightly over the years with a majority of 51 percent in 2008 saying the practice is morally acceptable. The last time just 45 percent of Americans said it was all right was 2003.

Gallup found 51 percent of Democrats, 50 percent of independents and just 32 percent of Republicans who say they find assisted suicide morally acceptable. When looking at an age breakdown, the views of Americans are largely consistent with just 46 percent of those 18-34, 45 percent of those 35-54 and 43 percent of those 55 and older saying assisted suicide is morally okay.

Had Gallup used the term assisted suicide without including the word, doctor, support likely would have decreased further.

When examining the issue of abortion, Gallup found more firm opposition as 51 percent of Americans say abortion is morally unacceptable versus 39 percent who do not have moral qualms with the practice of destroying human life before birth. As is the case with assisted suicide, views on abortion have changed only slightly over the years, with no more than 43 percent of Americans saying abortion is morally okay (2006) and a low-water mark of 36 percent saying so in 2009. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/assisted-suicide-support-drops-to-lowest-level-in-8-years/

Senate Gets 100K Petitions Asking to Stop Tax-Funded Abortions
A national pro-life organization has sent more than 100,000 signed petitions to members of the Senate urging them to allow a vote on a bill that would prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions across every department of the federal government.

Signaling that emotions still run high over taxpayer funding of abortions through ObamaCare and directing taxpayer monies to the nation s biggest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, Concerned Women for America delivered 101,000 petitions from its members to the U.S. Senate last week demanding action on the legislation.

This issue is long from resolved, and Americans are still fired up that their dollars are funding abortions, said Penny Nance, CEO of the conservative women s group.

It was the issue of abortion that very nearly felled ObamaCare, and it was only when a very small, but powerful group of so-called pro-life Democrats caved at the 11th hour that the massive legislation passed, continued Nance. The issue of taxpayer-funded abortion will most certainly be a concern in the upcoming presidential election. Americans don t want their money funding abortion.

Nance said polling data shows a large majority, over 60 percent, of Americans even those who identify themselves as pro-choice do not want their dollars funding abortion. She said that is evidenced by the fact that CWA obtained the signatures in a matter of weeks on the petition.

The petition read in part, As a pro-life American citizen, I am sickened over continued efforts by the abortion industry to use my tax-dollars to fund the destruction of innocent life. I urge you to use your political position to champion the plight of the unborn in our nation in the following ways: Support any and all legislative efforts to permanently prohibit taxpayer funding for abortion services in the U.S. and abroad. Support a federal ban on the funding of abortion and abortion related services both here and abroad. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/senate-gets-100k-petitions-asking-to-stop-tax-funded-abortions/

Planned Parenthood Prez: Emulate Late-Term Abortionist George Tiller
Earlier this month, Planned Parenthood abortion business president Cecile Richards delivered an address to the Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health award ceremony in New York City. There, she told pro-abortion doctors to be more like late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller.

You represent our future and you honor the memories of Doctors George Tiller and William Rashbaum and you advance the cause to which they dedicated their lives, she said. No one knows that better than Jeanne and Rebecca Tiller. Having you both here tonight means so much to us all seeing you instantly reminds us of George his kindness, his courage, his wisdom.

George was a remarkable man, a remarkable doctor, Richards said, looking ahead to today, the anniversary of the shooting death that claimed his life. We have a credo at Planned Parenthood developed by the great Lynne Randall which is that we each must strive to be more like George. More determined. Braver. Kinder. Of course, you are all like George.

Although no one in the pro-life community including Operation Rescue president Troy Newman lent any support to the men who killed Tiller, urging pro-abortion doctors to emulate the late-term abortion practitioner would have them taking the lives of unborn children late in pregnancy, violating state abortion laws and killing and injuring women in botched abortions.

He s become St. George to the abortion movement now because he was martyred to their cause, Newman said in 2009.

Before his death, the state board that monitors doctors was close to revoking Tiller s medical license on allegations that he falsified the age of unborn children before the late-term abortions that took their lives. He allegedly did so to stay within the confines of state law. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/planned-parenthood-prez-emulate-late-term-abortionist-george-tiller/

Model Kathy Ireland: De-Fund Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
Add supermodel Kathy Ireland to the list of people wanting Congress to de-fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business by cutting the millions of dollars it receives to promote its agenda.

I think Planned Parenthood needs to reassess and look at what their values are, what their mission is, what their goals are, and do they deserve government funding? For example, there are non-profits that I m involved with, and we don t get government funding, Ireland told FOX411 s Pop Tarts program. We go out there, and if you really believe in this strongly enough to fight it for it, go get the funding.

To force people who don t agree with some of the practices, I don t believe in that. I don t think tax payers need to fund something as controversial as [Planned Parenthood], she added.

Ireland is not new to holding steadfast pro-life views when it comes to abortion, but she fold the Fox program it has cost her friends in the entertainment industry.

I ve never set out to win a popularity contest. I came from [being previously pro-choice], but when I was confronted with the science and I spoke to top scientists throughout our country asking, Would you please just show me some shred of evidence that the unborn is not a human being? and no one has been able to show me any, and I will continue to fight for those human rights until someone can show me otherwise, she continued. So a lot of people get mad at me, but that s okay. I listen to criticism because sometimes there are things to learn, even if it s wrapped in a nasty package.

Ireland is also confronting the battles over life and death on the end of life spectrum, as she told the YWCA Greater Los Angeles in a speech recently as the organization honored her with the 2011 Phenomenal Woman of the Year Award at its Saluting Women Who Are Instruments of Change ceremony. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/model-kathy-ireland-de-fund-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz/

Congress Must Cut UNFPA Funds to Stop Forced Abortions
You are funding forced abortions in China. So am I. Not only elective abortions. Forced abortions. It doesn t matter whether you are pro-life or pro-choice on this issue. No one can support forced abortion, because it is not a choice.

What do I mean by forced abortions? Here s a short video about a young, Chinese woman who was dragged off the street, strapped to a table and forced to abort at seven months (www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjtuBcJUsjY). You can read many more accounts of forced abortion, forced sterilization and infanticide under China s brutal One Child Policy here.

According to the Congressional-Executive Commission on China report, released on October 10, 2010, violators of China s One Child Policy continue to be victims of forced sterilization, forced abortion, arbitrary detention, and other abuses.

The One Child Policy has also led to many other serious human rights violations. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/congress-must-cut-unfpa-funds-to-stop-forced-abortions/

Text Messages to Teen Inside Abortion Business Saves Baby
A teen mother, who was saved from a coerced abortion last October after a sidewalk counselor texted her while she was inside the clinic, has given birth to a beautiful, healthy boy named Manuel.

The little boy was born on May 10 weighing 7 pounds. The following week, his mother proudly graduated from high school.

Tara Shaver, a former intern for Operation Rescue, was sidewalk counseling outside Planned Parenthood in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she received a call from a woman who told her that her grandson s girlfriend was being forced to get an abortion that she did not want. The woman told Tara that her grandson, the baby s father, also wanted to keep the baby. They were desperate, because the girl was only 17 and her mother was insisting on the abortion against the girl s will. The grandmother gave Tara the teen s cell phone number.

Tara began a text-message conversation with the teen, who we will call Jane, while she was inside the abortion clinic. Jane was six weeks pregnant and was interested in seeing an ultrasound of her baby, but still did not want to go through with the abortion. She told Tara that her mom would not allow her to leave the clinic.

Tara continued to encourage her and even texted Jane a photo of a pre-born baby at six weeks, the same age as her baby. Texting keep their conversation private where a phone call would have alerted the mother or the abortion clinic staff to Tara s efforts to help Jane. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/text-messages-to-teen-inside-abortion-business-saves-baby/

Salon Writer Mikki Kendall Admits Embellishing Abortion Story
On my blog last week I posted an excerpt from the Salon piece, Abortion saved my life. The writer, a blogger named Mikki Kendall, was relaying her first person account of supposedly nearly hemorrhaging to death because a hospital doctor refused to perform the one procedure that would save her life, an abortion. Here was the quote I pulled:

I don t know if his objections were religious or not; all I know is that when a bleeding woman was brought to him for treatment he refused to do the only thing that could stop the bleeding. Because he didn t do abortions. Ever.

The story headline and subtitle: Abortion saved my life: I almost died in an emergency room because the doctor on call refused to perform a necessary procedure. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/salon-writer-mikki-kendall-admits-embellishing-abortion-story/

Scotland Sees Abortions Drop After Rise Over Several Years
A new report from the health department in Scotland shows abortions are down after rising for a period of several years from 2002-2008. Last year 12,826 abortions were done on women and unborn children in Scotland, compared with 13,108 in 2009. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/scotland-sees-abortions-drop-after-rise-over-several-years/

Wisconsin Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz Should Lose Funding
The Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee recently voted to direct state and some federal family planning funds to public health agencies and prohibit those agencies from giving the funds to organizations and their affiliates that provide abortions or do abortion referrals. In effect, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, as the state s largest abortion provider, would not be able to receive these funds. It is far past time for the state and federal governments to stop feeding this abortion giant with taxpayer dollars. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/31/wisconsin-planned-parenthood-abortion-biz-should-lose-funding/

Kmiec tells newspaper he still backs Obama

Stand by your man

http://www.calcatholic.com/

In a swan song interview with the Times of Malta, outgoing Ambassador Douglas Kmiec says “there is a 98 percent chance” he will endorse President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election bid.

Kmiec, said the newspaper, is scheduled to return to California today, and will resume teaching law at Pepperdine University in Malibu this fall.

Kmiec resigned his ambassadorship in April following a critical report of his handling of embassy affairs by a U.S. State Department inspector. He said at the time that he had not been pressured to quit the post.

In 2008, Kmiec, a law professor once rumored to be under consideration by the Reagan Administration as a possible nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, stunned his colleagues by announcing in an article in the daily web magazine Slate that he was backing Obama in his quest for the presidency. In July 2009, in an apparent reward for his political support, the White House announced that President Obama had named Kmiec as ambassador to Malta.

“I would say there is a 98 per cent chance of endorsing the President, coupled with the statement that I think the President is doing a great job,” theTimes of Malta quoted Kmiec as saying in an article published on Sunday. “I think Mr. Obama is doing a superb job. He’s someone who has made good on his principal promises against substantial headwinds.”

Kmiec, said the Times, cited President Obama’s handling of the economy, the passage of healthcare reform and “his performance on the international stage” as reasons for his likely 2012 endorsement.

Kmiec also briefly discussed a fatal Aug. 25, 2010 car accident in Southern California that claimed the lives of Msgr. John Sheridan, 94, and Sr. Mary Campbell, 74. Sr. Campbell died at the scene, while Msgr. Sheridan died less than a month later from complications from injuries sustained in the wreck. Kmiec required surgery for his injuries, but survived.

Kmiec, said the Times, attributed the car crash to medicine he takes for Parkinson’s disease, which caused him to faint. “I had a low heart rate, and the low heart rate combined with this medication caused me to faint for four seconds and the car slipped off the road and into that ravine,” the Maltese newspaper quoted Kmiec as saying.

In an April 24 open letter regarding his resignation, Kmiec referred to the State Department inspector’s report as a rebuke “for refusing to either suppress the relevance of faith in my life and writing, or to disregard the President’s assignment to promote inter-faith dialogue.” Kmiec called the inspector’s findings an act of “soulless, secular censorship.”

The report found that Kmiec was spending too much time writing on the subject of inter-religious dialogue to the detriment of other ambassadorial duties. The State Department inspector also said Kmiec did not manage the embassy effectively, did not follow State Department guidance, and did not meet frequently enough with Maltese government officials.

Thank Speaker Boehner for Blocking Obama Recess Appointments

John Boehner

Image via Wikipedia

We need to call Speaker Boehner’s office right now at 202-225-0600 and thank him for the extraordinary step he took this week to slow down President Obama’s radical agenda.

With the Obama legislative agenda stalled, the left has turned its attention toward using the Executive power to accomplish their socialist goals. The key to this strategy is to the pack agencies, boards, and commissions such as the National Labor Relations Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, with leftists like Craig Becker and Elizabeth Warren who will advance the collectivist agenda, regardless of whether there is any legal authority to do so.

The Senate has blocked several of the more radical nominees, but under the Constitution, President Obama has the power to appoint them during a Congressional recess.

You Are Funding Forced Abortions in China through UNFPA

Fronteiers

OPINION, May 31, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following is submitted by Reggie Littlejohn, Founder and President of Women's Rights Without Frontiers:

You are funding forced abortions in China. So am I. Not only elective abortions. Forced abortions. It doesn't matter whether you are pro-life or pro-choice on this issue. No one can support forced abortion, because it is not a choice.

What do I mean by "forced abortions?" Here's a short video about a young, Chinese woman who was dragged off the street, strapped to a table and forced to abort at seven months

You can read many more accounts of forced abortion, forced sterilization and infanticide under China's brutal One Child Policy here

According to the Congressional-Executive Commission on China report, released on October 10, 2010, violators of China's One Child Policy continue to be victims of "forced sterilization, forced abortion, arbitrary detention, and other abuses."

The One Child Policy has also led to many other serious human rights violations. I'll name just three:

  1. Gendercide. Because of the traditional preference for boys, girls are disproportionately subject to abortion, abandonment and infanticide.

  2. Sexual Slavery. There are now an estimated 37 million more males than females living in China today. This severe gender imbalance is a powerful, driving force behind trafficking in women and sexual slavery from nations surrounding China.

  3. Female Suicide. According to the World Health Organization, China has the highest female suicide rate of any country in the world. Approximately 500 Chinese women end their lives each day. Could this extraordinary suicide rate be related to the trauma of enduring a forced abortion or forced sterilization?

How does this affect us? Through UNFPA, we are helping finance the infrastructure used in coercive family planning in China. In 2001, the US stopped funding UNFPA on the basis that it is complicit in coercive family planning in China. In 2008, the US State Department reaffirmed that assessment, yet we restored funding in 2009.

Just last week, US citizens voted to cut UNFPA funding under the new YOUCUT program ( majorityleader.gov/YouCut/P2_W1.htm). Because of this vote, Rep. Renee Ellmers will introduce legislation to cut UNFPA, saving $400 million over the next ten years. The bill still needs to pass through committee and be passed by the House to become effective, so you still have time to contact your representative about it.

Meet Manuel, a Baby Saved from Coerced Abortion by Texting

Operrescfrontlines

Albuquerque, NM – A teen mother, who was saved from a coerced abortion last October after a sidewalk counselor texted her while she was inside the clinic, has given birth to a beautiful, healthy boy named Manuel.

The little boy was born on May 10 weighing 7 pounds. The following week, his mother proudly graduated from high school.

Tara Shaver, a former intern for Operation Rescue, was sidewalk counseling outside Planned Parenthood in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she received a call from a woman who told her that her grandson’s girlfriend was being forced to get an abortion that she did not want. The woman told Tara that her grandson, the baby’s father, also wanted to keep the baby. They were desperate, because the girl was only 17 and her mother was insisting on the abortion against the girl’s will. The grandmother gave Tara the teen’s cell phone number.

Tara began a text-message conversation with the teen, who we will call “Jane,” while she was inside the abortion clinic.

Texting keep their conversation private where a phone call would have alerted the mother or the abortion clinic staff to Tara’s efforts to help Jane.

Finally, Jane came out of Planned Parenthood and spoke with Tara, and before long, Jane’s father came to the clinic to pick her up and take her safely home.

Tara’s last text to the Jane that day was loving word of encouragement.

“We are so proud of u! You are my hero, your baby is so proud too!”

Tara continued to follow up with her new friend, and shared in her joy at the birth of her baby and her accomplishment of graduating with her class.

“Coerced abortions are a very real and understated problem in our country. Jane is a hero for having the courage to stand up for her baby even though the deck was stacked against her. We congratulate her on the birth of her precious son, Manuel, and on her graduation,” said Newman.

“But Jane could not have done it without Tara’s love and support. She is also a hero too, for thinking ‘outside the box’ and using texting to save Manuel’s life and protect Jane from the emotional trauma of a coerced abortion. Tara took time to follow up with Jane, and make sure she had the help and support she needed. We are very proud of Tara and all she and her husband, Bud, are accomplishing on the pro-life mission field of Albuquerque.”

Doctors Forced to Prescribe Drinking Water to Keep the Old Alive

May 31, 2011 (MailOnline) - Doctors are prescribing drinking water for neglected elderly patients to stop them dying of thirst in hospital. The measure—to remind nurses of the most basic necessity—is revealed in a damning report on pensioner care in NHS wards.

Some trusts are neglecting the elderly on such a fundamental level their wards could face closure orders. The snapshot study, triggered by a Mail campaign, found staff routinely ignored patients' calls for help and forgot to check that they had had enough to eat and drink.

Pro-life group recruits bioethics heavyweight to help youth confront the culture of death

London, 31 May 2011: A leading UK pro-life group has recruited a bioethics heavyweight to help youth confront the culture of death.

The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has appointed Anthony McCarthy as its Education and Publications Manager, effective from 1 July 2011. SPUC www.spuc.org.uk is the world''s oldest pro-life lobbying and educational organisation, founded in 1967.

He will oversee SPUC’s educational work at home and abroad, be responsible for SPUC’s educational publications and the SPUC website. He has also been given the responsibility of managing, directing and developing SPUC’s outreach to secondary schools, universities and colleges and to young people in general across the country. Given his background in research, bioethics and public relations, SPUC believes he is the ideal candidate to represent the organisation publicly and to write about bioethical and pro-life issues on behalf of SPUC for a range of publications.

Mr McCarthy was previously a Research Fellow of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre, formerly the Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics, a bioethical institute serving the Catholic Church in the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the eight years he spent with the Centre, Mr McCarthy contributed to submissions to the Government on major bioethical issues. He has written on such topics for national publications, including the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph, and has argued the pro-life cause convincingly on Channel 4 News and the BBC.

Mr McCarthy is the author of a book entitled "Cloning and Stem Cell Research" and has helped to edit a range of other publications in the field of bioethics.

He has tutored in Philosophy at St Mary’s University College, Twickenham; Allen Hall seminary in Chelsea; Blackfriars, Oxford university; and Heythrop College, University of London. He has also given presentations at a European Parliament conference and to the Pontifical Academy for Life at the Vatican.

Before his involvement with the Linacre Centre, Mr McCarthy worked for an independent media monitoring firm serving a variety of financial institutions, and as a civil servant for the Cabinet Office and the Department of Trade and Industry.

Mr McCarthy said: “I am delighted and honoured to be asked by SPUC to become their Education and Publications Manager. I have been writing and speaking on issues in sexual and reproductive ethics, as well as other life issues, for years and relish the opportunity to educate young people ready to cast off the tired nostrums of the sexual revolution and the various promoters of the culture of death.

“With more and more people looking for ways to combat contemporary willingness to kill the innocent and the reluctance in certain quarters to face reality, SPUC’s work remains as important as ever.  I look forward to joining colleagues in this work, and to using my background in ethics, research and communications in the hope of making the new post a crucial part of SPUC’s mission.”

John Smeaton, SPUC's director, said: “Anthony McCarthy's enormous expertise on sexual and reproductive ethics and the whole range of life issues will be invaluable in SPUC's outreach to young people. They are being targeted by the pro-abortion and birth control lobby as never before, not least at school. On the basis on sound reasoning, solid arguments and hard facts, we need to equip young people to resist the culture of death which surrounds them.

“Anthony McCarthy is uniquely well-qualified to help SPUC fulfil that educational mission. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children has been sending trained volunteer speakers to secondary schools for over four decades. SPUC's educational research trust produces 'How You Began', an educational set of realistic, anatomically-correct foetal models, which have been used in schools, medical schools and universities for over 20 years. They were designed and manufactured under the expert guidance of a team of leading foetal authorities including obstetricians and gynaecologists, pathologists and other experts in anatomy and embryology", concluded Mr Smeaton.

For further information, please contact John Smeaton on (0)7785 325808 / (020) 7820 3128, or Simon Caldwell of St Gabriel News and Media (simon.caldwell@stgabrielnews.co.uk) on (0)7708 119554.

Congressman Chris Smith: Replace Obama With Pro-Life President
Congressman Chris Smith, the head of the pro-life caucus of lawmakers in the House of Representatives, says voters must replace pro-abortion President Barack Obama with a pro-life president when they vote in the 2012 elections.

I do think we need a man or woman who is totally committed to the culture of life and not just in name only or symbolically but somebody who really believes in the family and in the preciousness of all life, including the child in the womb, the New Jersey congressman told the Catholic News Agency.

Having previously called Obama out on his lengthy pro-abortion record, Smith says giving him another four years in the White House would be a disaster for women and unborn children by allowing him a chance to further entrench abortion, abortion funding and international promotion of abortion.

President Obama is the abortion president. If he gets in for four more years he ll be untethered, Smith told CNA. Obama will pack the Supreme Court too. The only realistic way that Roe v. Wade will be repealed is through the courts. If he gets a chance to put one or two more judges on (the bench), then a generation will be lost and over a million kids a year will suffer the cruelty of abortion.

Look at the stand Obama took on the threat to withdraw funding for the International Planned Parenthood Federation from the U.S. budget, Smith explained. He said, I ll shut down the government before I don t fund Planned Parenthood. So his priorities couldn t have been clearer. His priority will be to fund all pro-abortion, non-governmental organizations to the max. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/30/congressman-chris-smith-replace-obama-with-pro-life-president/

AmeriCorps Boots Participants Lobbying at Planned Parenthood
The national volunteer service program AmeriCorps has booted two women who face accusations that they broke the program s rules by lobbing for the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

Though the program does not prevent participants from working at Planned Parenthood, it bans providing abortion services or referrals for such services. However, a Wall St. Journal report indicates the women, who were participants in NYC Civic Corps, a part of AmeriCorps, allegedly violated rules on attempting to influence legislation and organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes.

Although they were one month away from completing a 10-month stint, the women were told not to return on Tuesday and they are reportedly deciding between abandoning the AmeriCorps program or taking another placement.

The WSJ indicated mayoral spokesman Marc LaVorgna responded to the decision, saying, We disagree with the opinion because all applicable regulations were followed. But out of an abundance of caution, the Civic Corps members were relocated.

Neither NYC Civic Corps worker was involved with providing abortions, and neither engaged in political activities during their official hours, LaVorgna said.

Officials involved in the decision said new York City will use private money to pay for the $1,270 monthly stipend and $5,350 educational award because of the rules violations. ACTION: Contact AmeriCorps at http://www.americorps.gov/about/contact/index.asp to urge it to prevent any of its participants from working at Planned Parenthood. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/30/americorps-boots-participants-lobbying-at-planned-parenthood/

Pepsi Ignores Criticism on Use of Aborted Cells in Research
PepsiCo is ignoring criticism from pro-life advocates upset that the company contracts with a research firm that uses fetal cells from babies victimized by abortions to test and produce artificial flavor enhancers.

Last week, dozens of pro-life groups called for a boycott of Pepsi because of information that came to light in March showing biotech company Senomyx was found to be testing their food additives using fetal cells from abortions. Senomyx ignored a letter from the pro-life group Children of God for Life, which complained about its practices.

The company s key flavor programs focus on the discovery and development of savory, sweet and salt flavor ingredients that are intended to allow for the reduction of MSG, sugar and salt in food and beverage products, the Senomyx web site says. Using isolated human taste receptors, we created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor.

Debi Vinnedge, of the pro-life group Children of God for Life, explained, What they don t tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors. They could have easily chosen animal, insect, or other morally obtained human cells expressing the G protein for taste receptors.

After contacting Pepsi with their concerns, the beverage and food products company responded via email to pro-life advocates with an unsigned form response from Pepsi Consumer Relations.

Thank you for contacting us to share your sincere concerns, the PepsiCo response says. Please be assured that PepsiCo is committed to using only the highest ethical methods in all aspects of our research. This is something we take very seriously, and we hold ourselves and all of our research partners to the same high standards as the world s leading research centers. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/30/pepsi-ignores-criticism-on-use-of-aborted-cells-in-research/

Elderly Patients Dying of Thirst, British Doctors Prescribe Water
Sadly, this news article in the London Daily Mail about medical and treatment conditions for elderly patients in England is going to become altogether too common.

As populations of most countries see baby boomers move into their 70s and 80s and become increasingly reliant on support from government or families, and as the quality of life ethic continues taking hold in the world of medicine and mainstream culture, the elderly will suffer more as the pro-euthanasia mentality becomes one of neglect.
From the story:

Doctors are prescribing drinking water for neglected elderly patients to stop them dying of thirst in hospital. The measure to remind nurses of the most basic necessity is revealed in a damning report on pensioner care in NHS wards. Some trusts are neglecting the elderly on such a fundamental level their wards could face closure orders.

The snapshot study, triggered by a Mail campaign, found staff routinely ignored patients calls for help and forgot to check that they had had enough to eat and drink.

Dehydration contributes to the death of more than 800 hospital patients every year.Another 300 die malnourished. The latest report by the Care Quality Commission found patients frequently complained they were spoken to in a condescending and dismissive manner.

The watchdog said three of 12 NHS trusts visited in the past three months were failing to meet the most basic standards required by law. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/29/elderly-patients-dying-of-thirst-british-doctors-prescribe-water/

When Tapes Show Sex Abuse Coverups, Abortion Agenda Becomes Clear
Multiple Planned Parenthood and National Abortion Federation clinics across the country including five in Alaska were targeted as part of a nationwide phone survey that revealed clinic staff encouraging a caller who said she was a 13-year-old girl to cover up statutory rape and child sexual abuse.

The audio recordings of those March 2002 calls were released earlier this month online.

The landmark survey by Life Dynamics was a precursor to and inspiration for the more recent undercover videos by pro-life group Live Action Films, which has drawn into question whether Planned Parenthood should continue receiving hundreds of millions in annual federal taxpayer dollars.

CIRCUMVENTING THE LAW

Life Dynamics was able to contact representatives from 813 facilities that either provide or refer for abortion across the nation, including five clinics in Alaska.

In each case, the caller identified herself as a 13-year-old girl who was pregnant by a 22-year-old man and wanting an abortion in order to conceal this sexual relationship from her parents and the authorities.

[T]he caller never said anything to suggest that her parents would become violent or abusive if they discovered her sexual activity, Life Dynamics explained. It was always made clear that the motivation for the abortion was to conceal this sexual activity.

However, in the vast majority of calls, including to the clinics in Alaska, there was no indication that authorities were going to be contacted about the possibility of statutory rape. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/30/when-tapes-show-sex-abuse-coverups-abortion-agenda-becomes-clear/

Overpopulation is a Myth: Plenty of Food and Space Exists
Proclamations of overpopulation have circulated for decades. Are they true? First off, what is meant by the word overpopulation ? It has nothing to do with the amount of people but rather to the resources and the capacity of the environment to sustain human activities.

To be overpopulated, a nation must have insufficient food, resources and living space.

With the world population at around 6.8 billion last year, food and living space are hardly a concern. In 1990, it was estimated that the world could feed up to 35 billion people. Most sources estimate that the global population will level out at around 9.2 billion in 2050, and then start to decline.

Indian economist Raj Krishna estimates that India alone is capable of increasing crop yields to the point of providing the entire world s food supply.

Lack of food is not the problem but rather the need for more efficient distribution.

Another supposed problem is living space.

In 2003, the entire population of the world could fit inside the state of Arkansas. The world may seem crowded, but it s because humans cluster together for trade and companionship, not for lack of room. Even so, there are those who insist that we will continue to breed exponentially, causing a population explosion. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/29/overpopulation-is-a-myth-plenty-of-food-and-space-exists/

Rosie O Donnell Show Compares Post-Abortion Guilt to Blaming Rape Victims
On Thursday s edition of Rosie Radio on XM/Sirius, Rosie O Donnell discussed talk show host and comedian Chelsea Handler s recent statement in a New York Times interview that she had an abortion when she was sixteen and still feels she made the right choice. Rosie and her executive producer Janette Barber agreed that it was courageous of Handler both to reveal the abortion and to say she doesn t regret it.

But when the Rosie crew took a call from woman who had several abortions in her late thirties and early forties and feels guilty about it, Barber really lost it, and compared that guilt to blaming a rape victim s outfit for rape:

JANETTE BARBER: To me, it s almost like saying, Yeah, why were you in that alley in short shorts when you got raped?

O DONNELL: Well, it s different, because one is preventable and one isn t, right? If you re in an alley and you re raped, you don t have any control

BARBER, not budging: But [people will say] your problem was you shouldn t have gone in the alley, you shouldn t have worn that outfit

You know it s bad when Rosie O Donnell sounds like the voice of reason. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/05/29/rosie-odonnell-show-compares-post-abortion-guilt-to-blaming-rape-victims/

Malta: collapse of Catholic marriage law's last stand

"Therefore what God has joined together, ...

(Mat 5:32) But I say to you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, excepting the cause of fornication, maketh her to commit adultery: and he that shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.

IN THE NEWS:  Malta: collapse of Catholic marriage law's last stand

Maltadivorce

In a defeat for both the Catholic Church and the government, just over half of the voters of the Mediterranean island of Malta (pop. 412,000) voted Saturday to allow divorce. Malta is the last European country -- and one of the few left in the world -- where divorce is illegal.

The Prime Minister, Lawrence Gonzi, had campaigned for a No vote. "The referendum outcome is not the one I wished for," he said, "but the will of the majority will be respected and parliament will enact legislation for the introduction of divorce,"

The divorce law will be far stricter than the "no-fault" divorce which prevails in the rest of Europe. The Referendum question asked whether divorce should be available to "a married couple who has been separated or has been living apart for at least four years", where there is "no reasonable hope for reconciliation between the spouses", and once "adequate maintenance is guaranteed and the welfare of the children is safeguarded."

But in this predominantly Catholic island, where 95 per cent of the population is baptized and more than 70 per cent go to church each Sunday, the result -- 54 per cent voting YES, on a 72 per cent turnout -- marks a substantial shift in relations between Church and state. Because almost all marriages are solemnized in church, in the absence of a civil divorce law annulment has been the only option available to couples.

RELATED : Philippines: Congress to start work on divorce bill

So far, only the Vatican City and the Philippines are left in the list of states that disallow or prohibit divorce. A third one, Malta, removed itself from the list after citizens voted for divorce in a referendum.

The House Speaker's public statement of support for the divorce bill should result in speedy proceedings and serve as a signal to the Members of Congress he leads.

REVIEW: Church Fathers on Divorce and the Indissolubility of Marriage

Fathers

FR. JOHN A. HARDON, S.J.: The Unity and Indissolubility of Marriage

NEW CATHOLIC DICTIONARY: "Indissolubility of Marriage "

"What God hath joined together, let no man put asunder" (Matthew 19). When the sacrament of matrimony has been received by a man and a woman and ratified by their cohabitation as husband and wife, their union cannot be dissolved except by death. Protestants often quote those other words of Christ in the same chapter, "Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery"; but it is plain that this permits not a divorce but a separation. It is not a dissolution of the marriage bond, but a putting away of the guilty party; for elsewhere our Lord declares that "He that marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery" (Luke 16). Saint Paul commands that the wife shall not depart from her husband, "and if she depart, that she remain unmarried, or be reconciled with her husband" (1 Corinthians 7). Here there is a distinction between the mere contract of marriage and the sacrament of matrimony. The Church, for grave reasons, can dissolve the contract of marriage when the sacrament has not been received, as explained in the article on the Pauline Privilege, but when the sacrament has been received and has been ratified by marital cohabitation, marriage cannot be and never has been dissolved. Because the Catholic Church enforced this law, schism and subsequent heresy invaded one of her choicest realms when a pope refused to grant a divorce to a licentious English king.

San Francisco archbishop rejects circumcision ban

“Unconscionable”

A proposed ban on male circumcision in San Francisco has qualified for the November ballot, and Archbishop George Niederauer has weighed in on the matter: he’s against it.

“The proposed ban on circumcision represents an unconscionable violation of the sanctuaries of faith and family by the government of San Francisco,” wrote Archbishop Niederauer in a letter to the editor published May 25 in the San Francisco Chronicle. “Although the issue does not concern Christians directly, as a religious leader I can only view with alarm the prospect that this misguided initiative would make it illegal for Jews and Muslims who practice their religion to live in San Francisco -- for that is what the passage of such a law would mean.”

“Apart from the religious aspect, the citizens of San Francisco should be outraged at the prospect of city government dictating to parents in such a sensitive matter regarding the health and hygiene of their children,” wrote Archbishop Niederauer.

The archbishop’s letter came in support of an earlier opinion piece by Rabbi Gil Leeds opposing the circumcision measure published by the Chronicle on May 20. “I would like to add my ‘Amen’ to the op-ed piece by Rabbi Gil Leeds, ‘Circumcision ignores our basic religious freedom,’" wrote Archbishop Niederauer.

“Freedom of religion, enshrined over two centuries ago by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, is now subject to a vote with the certification in San Francisco of the referendum on circumcision for the November ballot,” wrote Rabbi Leeds, a certified mohel expertly trained in providing circumcisions. “The vote will empower a secular majority to impose its will, and ban one of the oldest religious traditions known to humanity. When religious belief and practice become subject to vote by the majority of a city council, government agency or referendum, it endangers all of our rights and freedoms.”

The rabbi contended that the proponents of the anti-circumcision initiative were being deceptive by “labeling it a ‘ban on genital mutilation.’ Honesty would have demanded they called it a ban on circumcision. By using such a toxic term as mutilation, they hope to garner support from an unsuspecting public.”

“Circumcision is based on a Biblical commandment that required that Jewish males be circumcised eight days after birth,” said Rabbi Leeds. “Jews, from the most observant to the most secular, follow this tradition.”

“It is not just the tradition of circumcision that is being voted on in November in San Francisco, but the right for any person to follow the religious faith they treasure and the right of a parent to educate a child in the values they hold dear,” he said.

The initiative would outlaw circumcision for anyone under 18, and specifically provides, “no account shall be taken of the effect on the person on whom the operation is to be performed of any belief on the part of that or any other person that the operation is required as a matter of custom or ritual.”

Violators of the measure, if it becomes law, would be subject to a $1000 fine or up to a year in jail, or both.

Supporters say the procedure is painful, unnecessary and can cause injuries like nerve damage, infection, disfigurement and loss of normal function.
