“It is high time that American taxpayers tell Congress that they will no longer accept their dollars supporting an organization that murders unborn children,” said LSN Editor-in-Chief John-Henry Westen.
October 18, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An ambitious petition campaign demanding that Congress immediately pass legislation to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood was launched today. Click here to sign the petition to Defund Planned Parenthood. “Planned Parenthood is the most notorious killer of unborn children in the world,” said Steve Jalsevac, the founder and managing director of LifeSiteNews (LSN), which is sponsoring the petition. “Not only that, but investigations conducted by Lila Rose and Live Action have repeatedly shown that the abortion organization flagrantly ignores laws designed to protect the underage and the vulnerable.” “It beggars belief that this organization continues to receive hundreds of millions of the hard-earned dollars of U.S. taxpayers every year, and it must stop,” Jalsevac continued. The petition has an initial goal of 100,000 signatures. Once that goal is reached, the signatures will be presented to all U.S. Congressmen and Senators. “It is high time that American taxpayers tell Congress that they will no longer accept their dollars supporting an organization that murders unborn children,” said LSN Editor-in-Chief John-Henry Westen. “Please share this petition on Facebook, on Twitter, through your e-mail, anywhere you can, and let’s send Congress a message they won’t soon forget! With your help, we hope that 100,000 signatures is only the beginning!” Polls have consistently shown that a significant percentage of U.S. voters oppose taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. The percentage becomes notably higher (54% according to one April poll) when voters are asked whether they support taxpayer funding for organizations that provide abortions, rather than Planned Parenthood specifically. Earlier this month a bill was introduced into the U.S. House that would prevent the use of any funds from major U.S. departments from being channeled to any Planned Parenthood affiliate or clinic that performs abortions. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Denny Rehberg of Montana, chairman of the House Labor, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee. An effort earlier this year to defund the abortion giant federally succeeded in the U.S. House, butfailed in the Democrat-controlled Senate. After that effort failed, pro-life advocates took the defunding battle to the states, with the result that Planned Parenthood has already lost millions in funding in a number of U.S. states.
