GOP Leader Promises Another Vote to De-Fund Planned Parenthood
The number two Republican in the House of Representatives told thousands of pro-life activists at the Values Voter Summit today that Republicans will hold another vote to de-fund Planned Parenthood if voters give the GOP control of the Senate next year.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, a pro-life Virginia Republican, noted how GOP lawmakers pushed for a vote on revoking taxpayer funding to the abortion business earlier this year but expressed his disappointment that Senate Democrats defeated the measure. Should Republicans capture the upper chamber in next year s presidential elections, Cantor said Americans can expect another attempt to yank funding for the abortion business.

As you all know, at the beginning of our new majority, the House moved to cut off all taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood and its abortion clinics, Cantor said. After November 2012, we look forward to a Senate and White House that will partner with us to once and for all eliminate government funding for any and all organizations that perform abortions.

The Senate rejected, on a 44-56 vote, the House-approved long-term budget bill that contained the Pence Amendment de-funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business. Lawmakers needed 60 votes to pass the bill under the rules of the Senate and did not come close to the number needed to do so. All of the Democrats voted against the pro-life version of the budget bill with the de-funding measure in it. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/gop-leader-promises-another-vote-to-de-fund-planned-parenthood/

Rick Perry Touts Pro-Life Record at Values Voter Summit
Rick Perry, the Republican Texas governor seeking the GOP nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama, touted his pro-life accomplishments during a speech to a crowded house at the Values Voter Summit event.

You know, there are millions of Americans that are born into less than ideal circumstances. Maybe they were born into poverty, born without a parent. But as a society, we must stand for the principle that every life every life is worth living, regardless of the circumstance, he said. In America in America it s not where you come from that matters, but where you re going. As Americans, we must affirm the value of life, not just in our Declaration of Independence, but in the way that we live.

For some candidates, pro-life is an election-year slogan to follow the prevailing political winds. To me it s about the absolute principle that every human being is entitled to life. All human life all human life is made in the image of our creator, he said. And every innocent life must be protected, from the most frail, who are elderly, to the most vulnerable, who are unborn.

That s why as governor I have consistently worked for pro-life legislation, policies such as parental consent for minors seeking an abortion, a ban on third tri-semester (sic) abortions, an informed consent law, Perry added.

During his speech, Perry referenced his signing of a bill to revoke the taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business in his home state of Texas. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/rick-perry-touts-pro_life-record-at-values-voter-summit/

Rick Santorum Shares Bold Pro-Life Message at Values Summit
Rick Santorum made one of the strongest stands for human life of his Republican presidential campaign today when he spoke to thousands of pro-life activists at the Vales Voter Summit.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am committed we are committed in the fight, Santorum said, pulling his family on stage to talk about how he would work day and night as president to protect family values.

Santorum said the economy is the key concern in the 2012 presidential elections but added that it can t be fixed without first addressing the pro-life and pro-family crisis in the nation: We cannot have a strong economy unless we have strong families and strong faith.

Santorum recalled his involvement in the partial-birth abortion debate during his time in the U.S. Senate as a senator from Pennsylvania. He cited the federal ban on the gruesome abortion procedure as responsible for changing public opinion on abortion in general and making it so that more Americans hold a pro-life position today than in the past two decades. http://bit.ly/nnVvmV

For the first time, the issue of life and the issue of partial-birth abortion brought to the reality that the choice was a little baby, because in a partial-birth abortion you couldn t miss the baby, it was in the doctor s hands, it was alive, it would be otherwise born alive, he said. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/rick-santorum-shares-bold-pro-life-message-at-values-summit/

Former Britney Spears Backup Singer Saves Baby From Abortion
I ve been putting off getting my hair done for a while because it s hard for me to rationalize spending the money AND spending 2 hours being still. (I know, first world problem!) ? But, alas, my roots were quite blond so I scheduled an appointment for today. I ve been battling the blues for a few days and would probably have stayed in bed had it not been for the appointment.

I walked in and took a seat while I waited for my stylist to come get me. I can t even make up what happened next.

On the other side of the wall, I heard this conversation:

Girl #1: Well, I ve always been pro-choice, especially if there s something wrong. ((I look around for candid camera.))

Girl#2: Yeah I ve been sick for a month. I just don t think I can do this if there s something wrong with the baby. ((After I get over my shock, I begin to pray. I thought I was here to get my hair colored, but apparently You have other plans, Jesus.))

Girl #1: I think you did the right thing by making the appointment. It s harder to talk yourself out of it once you have a time to get it done. Will your husband drive you? http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/former-britney-spears-backup-singer-saves-baby-from-abortion/

Bachmann Introduces Bill for Ultrasounds Before Abortions
Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has introduced new legislation similar to laws in several states that would allow women a chance to see an ultrasound before they have an abortion.

Most abortion centers do ultrasounds to determine the age of the baby at the time of the abortion, but women rarely get a chance to see the results. When shown the ultrasound in a pregnancy center, that provide abortion alternatives, more than 80 percent of women decide against an abortion and keep their baby.

UltrasoundNow, Bachmann, a Republican congresswoman from Minnesota, has introduced the Heartbeat Informed Consent Act of 2011 with 29 original cosponsors and she says it is that figure showing how many women choose life after seeing an ultrasound that led her to file the bill.

A study by Focus on the Family found that when women who were undecided about having an abortion were shown an ultrasound image of the baby, 78 percent chose life, Bachmann said. My legislation will not only enable this technology to be better used to protect life, but also to ensure that a woman who is considering abortion is finally able to give full and informed consent. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/bachmann-introduces-bill-for-ultrasounds-before-abortions/

China Forced Abortion Opponent Chen Guangcheng Possibly Killed
Reports are emerging today that Chan Guangcheng, a prominent human rights activist who had led the fight against forced abortions under the one-child policy in China, may have been killed by Chinese officials.

Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women s Rights Without Frontiers, informed LifeNews today that ominous reports regarding blind lawyer Chen Guangcheng have emerged this week and, according to Radio Free Asia, Chinese authorities detained a group of at least nine human rights activists trying to visit Chen.

On Wednesday, many members of the group were cut off from communication and, according to a report by Canyu, Shandong authorities shot at these activists. Voice of America reports that villagers told it Chen is dead already, but the media outlet is attempting to verify that claim.

We are alarmed at the report that villagers are saying that Chen is already dead, Littlejohn told LifeNews. If Chen is dead, then the Chinese Communist Party is fully responsible for killing him through torture, denial of medical treatment and slow starvation. If Chen is alive, we urgently demand that he and his family be released immediately and unconditionally, for medical evaluation and treatment. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/china-forced-abortion-opponent-chen-guangcheng-possibly-killed/

Former Clinic Worker Forgives Childhood Bully Who Got Abortion
I was bullied mercilessly as a child. I was poor, smart, and ugly. Not exactly the trifecta for female popularity in 1970s suburbia. The worst always happened at the bus stop and on the bus to and from elementary school

I was teased and kicked and hit and spat at for what I wore (mostly hand-me-downs from my aunt, 12 years my senior), for my short and flimsy boy hair , and because I was a brain. I even vividly remember purposely getting a question or two wrong on a quiz in fourth grade just so I didn t have to pay for being The 100% Girl on the playground at recess.

The one time the one time! I had the courage to try to fight back, I took a lousy swing at a girl a few years older than me and my finger hooked into her necklace and it broke. It was picture day and her mother had lent her that necklace to wear for her school photos. Silent tears filled with regret and impotent rage streamed down my face as her mother held the broken necklace up to my nose in front of the She-Bully and my mother in my living room after school. Even writing about it now fills me with shame, anger, sorrow, and dread.

Fast forward 15 years and I am a counselor in an abortion clinic in the town where I grew up. As hard as it was to see friends and acquaintances walk through that door, it was even harder to see enemies. But there she was. She made eye contact with me without flinching at the front desk, and I requested she be assigned to a different counselor. http://www.lifenews.com/2011/10/07/former-clinic-worker-forgives-childhood-bully-who-got-abortion/
