Human Rights or Human Wrongs? By Judie Brown The line between what is an acceptable and moral practice is continually blurred, and may soon be nonexistent. In our "me first" society, it is expected that we can do whatever we want, whenever we want, with our bodies because, after all, they are our bodies and no one can tell us what we can or can't do. And so science marches along. Science can be a great thing, and miracles happen every day in the field of science. But just because we can do something doesn't mean we should do it. Today's commentary addresses what can happen when we allow science to govern us rather than taking control of science and respecting the life God has given us. [ Click here to read more. ] | | |
HEADLINES | | Arizona seeks to cut funds to Planned Parenthood Verde Independent Attorneys for the state and abortion foes are asking a federal appeals court to let it cut off federal and state funding for Planned Parenthood because it also offers abortions. In legal briefs filed with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the lawyers contend a trial judge erred last year when he said a new state statute aimed at Planned Parenthood apparently violates federal laws. U.S. District Court Judge Neil Wake ordered the state to continue allowing the organization to get family planning funds while the case goes to trial. But Steven Aden, an attorney with the privately funded Alliance Defending Freedom which is helping the state defend the law, said allowing the injunction to remain [in] place "would frustrate the public's interest, expressed through its elected representatives, in ensuring that taxpayer dollars do not directly or indirectly support abortions." |
| Papal Nuncio to attend Walk for Life West Coast California Catholic Daily Archbishop Carlo Maria ViganĂ², the papal nuncio to the United States, will honor the ninth annual Walk for Life West Coast on January 26, organizers have announced. "What an honor! We are so excited----this is the next best thing to having the Holy Father himself with us!" said Eva Muntean a co-founder of the walk. The Walk for Life appears to have been a thorn in the side of San Francisco's pro-abortion political establishment since its beginnings. As Cal Catholic reported on December 12, "On December 11, 2012 the San Francisco board of supervisors voted 10-0 (with 1 supervisor absent) to declare January 26 to be a celebration of the Roe v. Wade decision." Cal Catholic further noted, "Since the anniversary of Roe v. Wade is actually on January 22, and January 26 happens to be the date of the city's Ninth Annual Walk for Life West Coast, the resolution seems targeted more at the Walk for Life than a commemoration of Roe v. Wade." |
