Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

Singapore: An Extraordinary City - By almost any measure, this is an impressive city. It is consistently rated as the most law abiding nation in the world. Singapore has one of the best healthcare systems. It has the lowest infant mortality rate and the longest life expectancy in the world. Illegal drug use is almost nonexistent. There is very little violence. All of this is almost shocking in a nation city of five million people, however the storm clouds gather. Its birth rate is well below replacement, so let us see what time does to this "nation."

Britain: 123 IVF Babies Die - A report in the Daily Mail tells us that the British Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority has reported that over the last five years 123 in-vitro fertilization babies were aborted because the babies had been found to have Down syndrome. No details are listed of those with Down syndrome who carried their babies to term.

Five Million IVF Babies Born - The Singularity Hub has reported that the international committee monitoring assisted reproductive technologies now estimates that there are five million children who have been born using in-vitro fertilizaiton since 1978. In this same communique not a word is mentioned of the embryonic babies who were killed or inadvertently lost during these efforts.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(The Difference is LIFE) "God has created me to do him some definite service; he has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another. I have my mission - I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told it in the next... I have a part in a great work; I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons..." - Blessed John Henry Newman.

(Life): "Baby Goes Home After Doc Says: 'Abort Him, He Has No Chance'"Doctors told Jade Clarke that her unborn baby son had no chance of survival and that she should consider having an abortion. Now the little baby boy has made a recovery from the hospital and finally gone home.

ITEM #1: Setting the Bar - The Problem with Safe Sex Education

Sex education is a controversial issue in society. Parents want their children to make good choices, but they also want them to be protected from harm. Unfortunately many people believe the safe sex message is the best way to educate teens about sex. However, safe sex education actually puts young people at risk. When we teach safe-sex practices in schools, we are giving students the impression that we expect them to have sex. Why do we do this?

****************************************

ITEM #2: Being Handicapped is NOT a Crime!

Prenatal (before birth) testing today results in the early diagnosis of more and more abnormalities from the extremely simple to the very complex. Sadly, physicians may suggest terminating a pregnancy with only a possible risk of abnormality, probably due to fear of malpractice law suits. Half of the children targeted for destruction are not even affected by the feared abnormality. More normal children are killed than handicapped children. As a society, we must remember that a child's right to life is given by their Creator, not their parents or even the state. Being handicapped is not a capital crime and should never carry a death sentence.

ITEM #3: Abortion linked to significantly increased chance of preterm birth: Canadian study

Yet another study, this time conducted in Canada, has found a clear link between induced abortion and a much higher risk of subsequent pregnancies ending in preterm birth.

****************************************

ITEM #4: 'It looks like a baby!': abortion workers speak about the trauma of performing abortions

Much has been written about the emotional trauma that women go through after their abortions. But what most people don't realize is that abortion is so inherently evil and destructive that it devastates everyone involved - the mother, the father - and the abortion provider. The doctors, nurses, and other clinic workers are human - and repeatedly seeing the bodies of aborted babies and participating in their deaths leaves emotional scars.

****************************************

ITEM #5: The Wealth of Nations Depends on the Health of Families

Family, church, and school are the three basic people-forming institutions, and it is no wonder that they produce the best results - including economic and political ones - when they cooperate.

****************************************

ITEM #6: South Korea Scours Himalayas for Staff as Population Ages

With one of the world's fastest-aging populations, South Korea has gone from a country where labor was the only abundant resource to one seeking staff to help run the plants and farms of Asia's fourth-largest economy. While neighboring Japan has largely rejected imported labor as a solution to its aging workforce, South Korea is beginning to accept it. Immigrants have risen sevenfold since 2000, to 2.8 percent of the population, and could make up more than 6 percent by 2030, the government said.

ITEM #7 Human trafficking found in 118 countries

[Note also the concerns of the recent Dutch Report on human trafficking involving organs and forced commercial surrogacy [http://www.dutchrapporteur.nl/reports/organ-removal-forced-commercial-surrogacy/; see Full Report for more details on forced surrogacy using hyperlink at bottom of page for PDF file]. See also the UNESCO International Bioethics Committee Report on human trafficking including the trafficking of human sperm, oocytes and embryos asexually reproduced "for purposes of reproduction", at: http://www.unesco.org/new/fileadmin/MULTIMEDIA/HQ/SHS/pdf/Human-Cloning_IBC18_2011.pdf. Of course, "genetic engineering" can involve insertion of viral, bacterial, plant, non-human animal and animal gene splices, as well as artificially built genes using synthetic biology and nanotechnology. See my documentation of that UNESCO Report, with extensive scientific references, at: "Any Human Cell - iPS, Direct Programmed, Embryonic, Fetal or Adult - Can Be Genetically Engineered to Asexually Reproduce New Human Embryos for Purposes of Reproduction ('Infertility')" (November 2011), at: http://www.lifeissues.net/writers/irv/irv_194cellasexuallyreproduce1.html. The following article also at: http://www.lifeissues.net/news.php?newsID=00033939&topic=]. -- Dianne N Irving, Ph.D.]

ITEM #8: Washington Reflections

Yet, as we stand before our God as a nation, we do not have the blood of over 5 million but that of 10 times 5 million human beings dripping from our guilty hands. Why is it that we cringe in horror at the genetic cleansing Hitler instigated against those with Down's Syndrome or any genetic abnormality, and yet not recognize the same desire in our nation when it comes to abortion? In a 2006 poll, 70% of Americans said they believed women should have a legal right to abort their baby if there was a strong likelihood the child would be born with a serious defect. What is the difference? The size of the human beings whose existence we believe we have the right to dictate?

****************************************

ITEM #9: Study: Porn Addiction Increasing as Technology Proliferates Access

San Francisco psychotherapist Michael Halyard, MFT describes a University of Sydney study showing an increase in porn addiction as technology explodes access. Problems related to porn are explored and solutions are offered.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Children and the culture of pornography: 'Boys will ask you every day until you say yes'

The death of 13-year-old Chevonea Kendall-Bryan has driven the debate on the sexualisation of the young to fever pitch, but what will we do about it?

****************************************

ITEM #11: Planned Parenthood and the Government v. Religious Liberty and Women's Wellbeing (Part 1)

An unprecedented campaign against religious liberty, characterized by a formidable alliance between the White House and Planned Parenthood, bolstered by money, power, and market branding, is threatening women's well-being. The first in a three-part series.

****************************************

ITEM #12: Growing Up With Two Moms: The Untold Children's View

The children of same-sex couples have a tough road ahead of them - I know, because I have been there. The last thing we should do is make them feel guilty if the strain gets to them and they feel strange.
