St. Petersburg, FL – The man who led the Landmark Terri Schiavo case will be honored in a special Memorial Service scheduled for later this month. Robert Schindler, Sr. – Terri's Dad – gained national exposure in his historic battle to save his daughter's life.
Schindler died August 29th of heart failure. His family held an official funeral mass and burial for him last week in Philadelphia, PA, where he grew up. "My Dad wanted to be buried in his hometown," says Schindler's only son, Bobby. "But he lived much of his life in Florida, we wanted to make sure people there have a chance to honor his life and say goodbye."
It was also in Florida where Robert Schindler and his family fought a long, exhausting battle to prevent doctors from removing his daughter, Terri Schiavo's feeding tube.
"My Dad never sought to become famous or to be labeled an 'activist,'" says Bobby Schindler. "He got that title by simply fighting for what he believed in – something precious to him – my sister, Terri."
