Supreme Court: Kagan May Decide ObamaCare Despite Admin Role
Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, the second abortion advocate President Barack Obama placed on the high court, appears likely to decide the fate of ObamaCare despite her role in the Obama administration.

Though Kagan has been called upon to recuse herself in what is expected to eventually be one of the more monumental decisions of the Supreme Court, she participated in a case on Monday that is a precursor to the coming battle.

Although it is not considered one of the three main lawsuits coming from the states and state attorneys general challenging ObamaCare, which funds abortions, Kagan joined other members of the Supreme Court in denying a hearing to another case.

Former California state lawmaker Steve Baldwin, aided by the pro-life Pacific Justice Institute, a legal group, filed suit against ObamaCare and asked the Supreme Court for an immediate hearing bypassing the lower federal district and appeals courts. The legal team argued the constitutional problems with ObamaCare are so monumental that the Supreme Court must consider the case immediately.

The high court denied reviewing the case but its decision is noteworthy because Kagan s apparent participation in it is an indication she will likely participate in the coming battles over the lawsuits expected to have a greater chance of delivering the knockout blow to ObamaCare and its lack of provisions stopping abortion funding. Some Democrats Tell Pro-Abortion Pelosi: Take a Hike
Despite losing control of the House in the elections, pro-abortion Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to remain as the leader of the Democratic Party. But some Democrats, in a new letter, are telling her to take a hike.

Pelosi and her pro-abortion allies lost control of the House of Representatives in an election that saw pro-life advocates win a record number of seats.

The soon-to-be former Speaker has already announced she will mount a campaign for the Minority Leader position. While no potential opponent has yet emerged, Fox News reports a group of unnamed Democrats are sending a letter to her telling her they want someone else.

The letter comes from some of the Democrats defeated in last Tuesday s elections and they say they were victimized by a national wave of resentment toward Democrats, a wave that ensnared you along with us.

Madam Speaker, fairly or unfairly, Republicans made you the face of the resentment and disagreement in our races, the letter Fox News obtained says. While we commend your years of service to our party and your leadership through many tough times, we respectfully ask that you step aside as the top Democrat in the House. Full story at LifeNews.com

Bush Recalls Decision to Limit Embryonic Stem Cell Funding in New Book
President George W. Bush recalls his decision to prohibit taxpayer funding of any new embryonic stem cell research as one of the 14 most monumental decisions.

The comments come from his new book Decision Points the presidential memoir that hit the bookstores today.

Although decisions related to the 9-11 terrorist attacks, invading Iraq, the surge, Hurricane Katrina and other topics naturally dominate the list, Bush included the decision hailed by pro-life groups and eventually overturned by President Barack Obama.

He talked about how he struggled with the decision in part because he, like so many Americans, was not well-versed on the subject of stem cell research back in the early stages of the national debate in 2001.

First of all, what is a stem cell? he said he asked domestic policy adviser Margaret Spellings during his first briefing on the topic.

He eventually educated himself on the subject and received advice from University of Chicago professor Leon Kass, who would go on to become the chairman of the presidential bioethics council he created.

Bush admitted he felt pulled to support embryonic stem cell research out of the shared concerns pro-life advocates have with backers of the destructive research for those suffering from incurable diseases or devastating medical issues. Full story at LifeNews.com

Late-Term Abortion Practitioner Carhart May Open New Centers
Late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart has gone back and forth about opening new abortion centers in the Midwest or Southwest following the death of George Tiller and there is new indication he may be moving forward.

Carhart is based in the Omaha, Nebraska area and he was good friends with Tiller, who did late-term abortions at his business in Wichita, Kansas before he was shot by someone over abortion but who was not affiliated with the pro-life movement.

With the Tiller family announcing that it will permanently close his abortion center, Carhart has been considering his future plans for more than a year.

In September 2009, he appeared intent on opening a new abortion center in Wichita to replace Tiller s and that he would open it in Tiller s memory. But he appeared to back off with the passage of a new Nebraska law that bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy because unborn children can feel pain because it may hamper his efforts.

Yet, today, the Facebook page of Trust Women Movie, a pro-abortion propaganda film made to honor Tiller and promote Carhart, has a posting saying Carhart is working on opening two new clinics and it asks abortion advocates to donate to help support their trip to film this. Thousands Sign Petition to End Taxpayer Funding of Abortions
The Susan B. Anthony List s Stop Abortion Funding campaign supporting a bill to end federal taxpayer funding of abortion has generated significant support for the measure expected to come up after Republicans take the House in January.

The campaign s online petition topped more than 12,500 signatures of those who want to see Congress approve the bill pro-life Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey has introduced to ensure no federal government agency funds abortions.

The legislation is expected to be a priority of pro-life groups in the next session of Congress.

The enthusiastic response to this initiative mirrors what we ve seen at the ballot box this month and consistently in public polls, said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser.

She told LifeNews.com, The majority of Americans do not support abortion and an even larger number strongly oppose paying for it with their tax dollars. With so many pro-life leaders now in Congress, the critical moment has come to pass legislation that protects taxpayers against funding a procedure that offends their consciences. National Cancer Institute Should Tell Women of Abortion-Breast Cancer Link
by Bill Saunders
For years the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has denied a link between abortion and breast cancer. But NCI may soon have to apologize to the women it has misled because one of its own researchers is starting to acknowledge the link.

In the last 18 months alone, five studies have demonstrated an increased risk of breast cancer following abortion. One of those studies, co-authored by Louise Briton, a NCI branch chief, found a statistically significant 40 percent increased risk of breast cancer following abortion.[1]

The study also acknowledged that its findings were consistent with the effects observed in previous studies on younger women. Specifically, older age, family history of breast cancer, earlier menarche age, induced abortion, and oral contraceptive use were associated with an increased risk for breast cancer. [2]

Have these findings caused NCI to reverse course? Not yet, anyway. On its website, NCI still blatantly states that having an abortion does not increase a woman s subsequent risk of developing breast cancer [3] a errant conclusion made during a 2003 workshop organized by Ms. Briton herself.

It is time for NCI to stop ignoring the facts. Full story at LifeNews.com

Planned Parenthood Thinks More Tax Money, Abortions Equals Prosperity
by Steven Mosher and Colin Mason
It will come as no surprise to learn that Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards believes that government-funded health care should pay for all birth control, including abortions.
After all, since much of this funding would flow to Planned Parenthood, America s number one abortion provider would profit mightily from such a policy.

Of course Richards is smart enough not to say that PP wants to devour our money as well as our children. Instead, she trots out the lame argument that eliminating people will somehow save us all money.

Appearing on the Bill Press Show, the Planned Parenthood honcho claimed that birth control is one of those issues that actually saves the government money. She went on to say that we actually feel that covering birth control is not only the right thing to do for women, it s good for women, it s good for their health care, but it s frankly good public policy. An investment in covering birth control actually in the long run is a huge cost savings because women don t have children that they weren t planning on having and all the sort of attendant cost for unplanned pregnancy. Kelly Ayotte Win Shifts Feminism to Pro-Life Side in Senate
by Maura Butler
By now, we all know a shift took place last Tuesday as the American people made their voices heard at the ballot box.

The year of the pro-life woman led this shift to a pro-life majority in the House of Representatives and four pro-life women governors Jan Brewer (R-AZ), Susana Martinez (R-NM), Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Mary Fallin (R-OK). That s twice as many pro-life women in governorships than pro-abortion women.

But one of the most exciting victories was New Hampshire s Kelly Ayotte. Full story at LifeNews.com

Second North Dakota Abortion Practitioner Allowed Medical License to Expire
Media reports from North Dakota indicate one of the abortion practitioners at the Red River abortion center allowed her medical license to expire. Now, new reports indicate a second abortion practitioner did as well.

Operation Rescue has been close following the case and it provided LifeNews.com with additional information on it and more background information in exposing the problems.

As LifeNews.com reported, abortion practitioner Tami Lynn Holst Thorndike has medical licenses in Colorado and in South Dakota but her north Dakota license expired on June 30. But the pro-life group also received a tip that abortion practitioner Miriam McCreary of Minnesota allowed her medical license to lapse on the same date.

An OR staffer posing as a potential abortion customer placed a phone call to the Red River Women s Clinic abortion business on Friday, November 5 and she specifically asked to seen by Thorndike. Full story at LifeNews.com

Tennessee Abortion Amendment Gets Boost From 2010 Election
The amendment pro-life groups have fought for to limit the reach of a pro-abortion state Supreme Court ruling received a boost last week after legislative gains in the 2010 state elections.

The amendment is necessary because the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled 4-1 in 2000 that the state constitution allows unlimited abortions. It is necessary, pro-life advocates say, to be able to pass laws to limit and reduce abortions.

The ruling claimed the Tennessee Constitution contains a fundamental abortion right even broader than Roe v. Wade or the federal constitution and it resulted in the striking down of numerous pro-life Tennessee laws that were helping women and limiting abortions.

Simply put, passage of pro-life SJR 127 was a key issue in many state House races across Tennessee, especially in rural areas where pro-life candidates defeated longtime incumbents, Tennessee Right to Life president Brian Harris told LifeNews.com. In a battle that began in 2001, many of these incumbents initially opposed SJR 127 but had recently begun to vote in favor of the pro-life resolution in order to diffuse a powerful campaign issue. Rhode Island Governor Chafee Puts Abortion Doc on Transition Team
Newly-elected Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee is no strange to promoting abortion, as he compiled a strongly pro-abortion record during his tenure in Congress. Now he s taking that to new levels.

Chafee, who won office as an Independent, has appointed a transition team that includes an abortion practitioner who admits he has done abortions in an undisclosed South American country where abortion is illegal.

Chafee appointed Pablo Rodriguez, who formerly served as Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island. Full story at LifeNews.com
