Next Pro-Life Battle: Repealing Abortion-Funding ObamaCare
Now that pro-life elected officials are in firm control of the House and increased their numbers in the Senate, attention turns to the next battle for the pro-life movement: repealing abortion-funding ObamaCare.
The election victories didn t give the pro-life side enough votes in the Senate to control the legislative agenda, and President Barack Obama can still wield a veto pen, but that doesn t mean top Republicans won t press for repealing ObamaCare anyway.
They promised as much in their election document Pledge to America, and the two pro-life advocates expected to head the GOP in the House and Senate have both promised repealing ObamaCare is something they will push.
Representative John Boehner, expected to be named the next speaker of the House of Representatives, is vowing to press for the repeal of the ObamaCare law.
I believe that the healthcare bill that was enacted by the current Congress will kill jobs in America, ruin the best healthcare system in the world, and bankrupt our country, Boehner told a news conference yesterday. That means we have to do everything we can to try to repeal this bill and replace it with common sense reforms to bring down the cost of health care. Full story at LifeNews.com
Obama Loses to Potential 2012 Candidates Huckabee, Romney; Beats Palin
With a pro-life landslide in the 2010 midterm congressional elections, it s now not too early to begin looking ahead to the next election battle: defeating pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released on Thursday covering hypothetical presidential election matchups shows Obama losing to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney but ahead of Sarah Palin.
Huckabee leads Obama 52-44 percent, while Romney has a 50-45 point advantage putting both former governors who ran as pro-life candidates in 2008 ahead of Obama.
The results are especially good considering the poll covers registered and not likely voters.
Obama leads Palin, the pro-life former governor Alaska and former John McCain running mate, 52-44. Obama also holds a 49-47 percent margin over pro-life former House Speaker Gingrich.
When it comes to surveying Republicans on the candidates they most want to see represent the party against the pro-abortion president, 21 percent want Huckabee to be the nominee while 20 percent support Romney. Fourteen percent say they support Palin and 12 percent back Gingrich. Full story at LifeNews.com
Post-Election Poll: Abortion Helped Pro-Life Candidates, Majority of US Pro-Life
A new post-election poll shows the issue of abortion helped pro-life candidates and played a role in the Republican shellacking of pro-abortion Democrats.
A survey conducted by the Polling Company firm found pro-life candidates enjoyed a definite advantage in yesterday s elections.
Thirty percent of all voters said that abortion affected their vote with 22% of all voters backing pro-life candidates and eight percent saying they supported pro-abortion candidates giving pro-life candidates a net pro-life advantage of 14 percent among all voters.
Examined another way, of the Americans who voted based on the issue of abortion, 73 percent picked pro-life candidates while just 27 percent supported abortion advocates.
The post-election polling also found 27 percent of voters said abortion funding in the health care law affected their vote and they voted for candidates who opposed the health care law while just 4 percent said abortion funding in the health care law affected their vote and they voted for candidates who favored the law.Full story at LifeNews.com
Catholic Voters Put Pro-Life Republicans Over the Top, 53% Vote GOP
The Catholic vote has the power to shape the result of key national elections and, just as Catholic voters put pro-abortion President Barack Obama over the top in 2008, they put pro-life Republicans in the winner s circle on Tuesday.
Exit poling data from CNN shows 53 percent of Catholic voters sided with Republican candidates while Democrats won 45 percent of the vote and two percent vote for candidates of other parties or independents.
As LifeNews.com noted previously, Republicans went from a 10-point deficit in 2008 with Catholic voters to an eight percent advantage this time which is similar to the projections in a New York Times poll conducted shortly before the election.
Joshua Mercer of CatholicVote.org says Catholic voters were responsible for the pro-life gains in many of the top election contests.
This critical swing vote delivered big wins for the GOP, especially in the Midwest. Republicans won the Governor races in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan and Iowa, he said. State Houses in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, and Iowa flipped to the GOP and the Minnesota Senate is now in Republican hands. Both houses in the Wisconsin Legislature flipped to the GOP. Congressman Who Tried to Shut Down Pro-Life Group Loses Re-Election
Congressman Steve Driehaus of Cincinnati tried to shut down the election efforts of the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List.
Now it is Driehaus who finds himself shut down as he lost his-reelection battle against pro-life former Congressman Steve Chabot.
Driehaus filed a complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission for what he claimed was a false statement from the SBA List in billboards in his district they hoped to purchase saying he voted for taxpayer funding of abortions because of his pro-ObamaCare vote.
The commission has yet to issue a final decision on the complaint, which could see SBA List officials serve jail time or incur fines for violating an obscure state law against lying about political candidates.
But Driehaus vengeful efforts may have backfired, as it put more emphasis on his vote for the abortion-funding takeover of the health care system and he ultimately lost to Chabot, who championed the partial-birth abortion ban in the House during his previous tenure in Congress, by a 52-45 percentage point margin. For Democrats on Abortion, Votes Have Consequences
by Maura Butler
An historic election day has left us with a most promising pro-life majority in the House of Representatives.
The bellwether health care bill separated the sheep from the goats and gave the best legislative indication of real pro-life heroes and those who gave lip service but betrayed their constituents.
They can t say we didn t warn them; votes have consequences.
Fifteen out of twenty self-described pro-life Democrats were defeated on Tuesday sending a clear message that Americans don t want their hard-earned tax dollars funding abortions through surreptitious legislation like Obamacare. Pro-life voters across the country sent their Representatives who betrayed them packing and replaced them with authentic pro-life leaders who will actually vote pro-life across the board.
Those defeated include Brad Ellsworth (IN-SEN), Steve Driehaus (OH-01), Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-04), Bart Stupak (Retired, MI-01), Alan Mollohan (Primary defeat, MI-01), Baron Hill (IN-09), Paul Kanjorski (PA-11), John Salazar (CO-03), Jim Oberstar (MN-08), Bob Etheridge (NC-02), John Boccieri (OH-16), Chris Carney (PA-10), John Spratt (SC-05), Ciro Rodriguez (TX-23), and Charlie Wilson (OH-06). Investigation Finds Abortion Business Employes Rapist, Criminals
A pro-life organization has completed a new investigation of the American Women s Services abortion business operated by embattled abortion practitioner Steven Chase Brigham in New Jersey.
The probe found it employs abortion practitioners who have criminal convictions and other problems in their backgrounds.
Brigham is the abortion practitioner and abortion facility owner who has already had his medical license suspended in New Jersey and other states because of numerous violations of health and safety standards.
Operation Rescue reviewed files associated with the abortion business that operates in four northeastern states, including Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.
Because Brigham faces so many problems, he has had to employ other abortion practitioners to do abortions and keep AWS open during Brigham s medical license suspension. OR found they have shocking backgrounds that are so pervasive it believes the entire chain of abortion centers should be shut down. Full story at LifeNews.com
United Nations Agency Bashed, Promotes Sex Ed From Birth
Promoting sex education to the youngest of the young has drawn harsh criticism to a UN agency and its interpretation of age-appropriate education.
It is never too early to start talking to children about sexual matters, according to guidelines issued by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Once highly respected for its independence and integrity, UNESCO now works in partnership with the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the US (SIECUS), an educational arm of the controversial Kinsey Institute.
Last September, a torrent of criticism greeted new UNESCO guidelines on sexuality education for promoting legal abortion and masturbation for children as young as five. The intensity of the objections forced the agency to pull the guidelines, only to quietly reissue new ones in December. Full story at LifeNews.com

Florida Legislature Won t Override Crist Veto of Pro-Life Bill
he Florida legislature will not likely consider holding a vote this month to potentially override the veto from Governor Charlie Crist of a pro-life bill.
Crist vetoed a measure that would allow the state to opt out of the abortion funding under the ObamaCare bill and would allow women a chance to see an ultrasound of their unborn child prior to an abortion.
Abortion centers routinely perform ultrasounds before abortions and the bill would give women the opportunity to view it, as such centers don t normally provide it even though they include the cost in the price of the abortion.
Senate President-designate Mike Haridopolos and House Speaker-designate Dean Cannon both said Wednesday the ultrasound/opt-out bill would be included in the list of measures the legislature would try to override. Full story at LifeNews.com
United Nations Lobbyist Salma Hamid Pressuring Nations to Allow Abortions
During a short recess, delegates rise to stretch their legs and chat with colleagues. The break comes after many hours grappling with a packed agenda in a windowless room at UN headquarters.
But even now not everyone is relaxing.
A striking woman with long curly dark hair still works poring over a document with two delegates from Africa. She is a familiar face at the United Nations. Salma Hamid represents the UN Population Fund, the UN agency critics accuse of pushing a right to abortion and even facilitating the Chinese one-child policy. Hamid often sits in on official negotiations typically restricted to government delegates, even though Hamid is not a delegate and UNFPA not a UN delegation.
Hamid knows all of the delegates and they all know her. She used to be one of them, one of the few former delegates now shaping policy through UN agencies. When she was a delegate for Saudi Arabia, Hamid actually worked to promote pro-life and pro-family policies. As the population fund s representative, Hamid pushes sexual and reproductive health. A number of delegates greet her with smiles and hugs as she makes her way about the conference room, but others know to be wary. Full story at LifeNews.com
The state Assembly Appropriations Committee has scheduled a hearing on Bills A3273 and A3274 to fund Planned Parenthood and family planning clinics.
The measures are a response to the veto pro-life Gov. Chris Christie issued, saying the state didn t have the extra funds to be sending the abortion giant in a difficult economy.
The measures are the Assembly versions of the bills which were supposed to be heard at the October 7 Senate Budget Committee meeting that wa cancelled.
According to New Jersey Right to Life, the legislation transfers $5 million of unexpended balance from the Purchase of Service for Inmates Incarcerated in County Penal Facilities account from the budget and appropriates that amount for Planned Parenthood and family planning centers.
