Lifeissues.net: clear thinking about crucial issues

Dear Friends For Life,

Susan B. Anthony, a feminist pioneer in the middle of the 1900s said this, "I deplore the horrible crime of child murder. No matter what the motive, love of ease or a desire to save from suffering the innocent unborn, the woman is awfully guilty who commits the deed. It will burden her conscience in life. It will burden her soul in death, but oh, thrice guilty is he who drove her to the desperation, which impelled her to the crime."

Natural Family Planning is very "effective". Researchers from the University of Heidelberg studied 900 women and report in the journal, Human Reproduction. They found that the correct use of sympto thermal method (STM) leads to a rate of 0.4 pregnancies per 100 women per year. They compared this to a consistent, skillful use of a barrier method such as a fresh condom, which has a pregnancy rate 0.6. Sex without contraception, during the fertile period, has a pregnancy rate of upwards of 7.5 pregnancies; however, many studies have found considerably higher percentages. The Couple to Couple League, which teaches Natural Family Planning (NFP) to married and engaged couples, said that "natural" and "contraception" are at "totally opposite ends of the spectrum." NFP is really fertility awareness and can be used to increase the chance of conceiving or temporarily delaying it.

God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

(Mother's Day): "Celebrating Some Very Special Mothers" -This Mother's Day, Concerned Women for America wants to highlight the love and special care that mothers of special needs kids give to these precious gifts from God. These mothers have a unique perspective of God's relationship to His children and there is much we can learn from their experiences.

ITEM #1: Study: gay teens five times more likely to attempt suicide

The study, published in the journal Pediatrics online on April 18, was conducted in order to determine whether living in a gay friendly social environment affected the risk of a teen identifying as homosexual committing suicide. It found that teens in "unsupportive" social environments were 20 percent more at risk of attempting suicide than those in "supportive" environments.

ITEM #2: Underage labor, it just gets worse

Tari is among millions of poor children forced to work every day, late into the night, to support their families. They may not be allowed to step into their house before handing over some money to their parents.

****************************************

ITEM #3: UN Wants Billions for STD Vaccination Scheme

The UN is about to ask governments to fund the vaccination of every girl in the world against the sexually transmitted disease HPV, human papillomavirus. The controversial campaign could cost as much as $300 per person, totaling billions.

****************************************

ITEM #4: Controversial New Hungarian Pro-Life Constitution Signed Into Law

Last week, Hungarian President Pal Schmitt signed a controversial new constitution into law that includes a provision for the protection of unborn life "from conception" and the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.

****************************************

ITEM #5: Protecting our Children from Porn

The average age of first exposure to Internet pornography is eleven years old; often because of stumbling onto sites while doing homework. Kids searching "White House" can easily end up typing "com" instead of "gov" and end up at a porn site. Type into Google's image search engine words like "pretty," "beautiful," "cute," or virtually any girl's name, and if the "safe search filter" is not properly activated many of the images that come up are sexually explicit in the extreme. Pornographers purchase domain names knowing that web surfers can unintentionally end up at their site.

****************************************

ITEM #6: Mass human rights violation, says report

A recent UN study says gross human rights violations as a result of inadequate implementation of a decade-old peace accord have given rise to political instability and ethnic conflicts in the remote Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in southeastern Bangladesh.

****************************************

ITEM #7 Contraceptive Contradictions

The Catholic Church remains almost a lone voice in our age defending the view that contraceptive sexual activity in marriage is wrong.

****************************************

ITEM #8: When a Girl Is Executed ... for Being Raped

This story from Bangladesh just broke my heart and outraged me - and offers a reminder of the daily human rights struggles of so many women and girls in villages around the world.

****************************************

ITEM #9: Life Bill Passes in South Dakota

State requires all seeking abortion to visit a pro-life pregnancy center.

****************************************

ITEM #10: Reliable URLs for Human Embryology: The Carnegie Stages of Early Human Embryonic Development

Summary: The purpose of this brief article is to provide to those who are interested three of the most reliable sources online today for the accurate scientific facts of sexually reproduced human embryos - the Carnegie Stages of Early Human Embryonic Development. ... Even within these Carnegie Stages reference is made to the post-fertilization asexual reproduction and development of one of every pair of new identical twins naturally reproduced in vivo (see Stages 2 through 5). One would hope that these are the accurate scientific facts that are used to describe human embryonic development in vivo (including descriptions of "prenatal development") and in vitro, for either sexually or asexually reproduced human embryos.

****************************************

ITEM #11: A Gift of Time

With rapid developments in fetal diagnosis in the past 30 years, it is now very possible to know early in a pregnancy there are "catastrophic problems" which will almost certainly result in the baby not being able to survive after birth for more than a few minutes, days, or weeks. It is for this journey, the journey through the remaining months of pregnancy and the birth and death of a child, that "A Gift of Time" can serve as an experienced and compassionate travel guide and companion.

****************************************

ITEM #12: Moral Use of Natural Family Planning

The free and unfettered enjoyment of sexual intercourse by spouses is undoubtedly a source of much pleasure and many goods for spouses when the circumstances of their lives allow such. To be able find every pregnancy a welcome event, those unplanned as well as planned, is surely a great blessing. But there are times when couples must limit their family size and must curtail their sexual activity. They should be confident that if their decision to limit their family size is well discerned, in using NFP they should be confident that they are acting morally and not mistrusting God nor misusing their sexual powers.
