Senate Defeats Filibuster Against Pro-Abortion Obama Judge
The Senate defeated a filibuster supported by most Republicans against the latest pro-abortion judicial nominee President Barack Obama put forward, Andrew Hurwitz.

Senators achieved the necessary 60 votes to stop the filibuster and invoke cloture with all Democrats except West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin voting to end the filibuster against federal appeals court nominee Andrew Hurwitz and all but 8 Republicans voting to support the block on him. Republican Sens. McCain, Kyl, Alexander, Brown, Snowe, Collins, Lugar and Murkowski voted with Democrats to allow the pro-abortion nomination to move ahead. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/senate-defeats-filibuster-against-pro-abortion-obama-judge/

Richards: Romney More Anti-Planned Parenthood Than McCain
Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood, the nation s biggest abortion business, says Mitt Romney is even more anti-Planned Parenthood than John McCain.

The liberal blog Talking Points memo included some excerpts from her speech to Netroots Nation, a gathering of liberal and pro-abortion bloggers:

In the next five months, the offensive you should go on is Mitt Romney s own statements about what he would do to women s health care if he was elected president, Richards told a small group of progressive bloggers and activists at Netroots Nation. There s just no way to overstate how little people know what s going on. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/09/richards-romney-more-anti-planned-parenthood-than-mccain/

Last Abortion Clinic in Mississippi Struggling to Stay Open
Thanks to numerous pro-life laws approved over the years, Mississippi is down to just one abortion business and it is now struggling to stay open because it is having difficulty complying with another new pro-life provision.

The state legislature, earlier this year, approved a measure that abortion backers strongly opposed because it could result in stopping abortions at the last remaining abortion facility in the state, making it the first abortion-free state in the country. The law, which goes into effect July 1, requires abortion practitioners to have admitting privileges at a local hospital in case a botched abortion requires a woman to be immediately hospitalized. The Jackson Women s Health Organization abortion facility is having a hard time securing admitting privileges for the three abortion practitioners it employs, as the Clarion Ledger newspaper reports: http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/last-abortion-clinic-in-mississippi-struggling-to-stay-open/

Study: Depo Provera Use Increases Breast Cancer Risk
A new study of women using the Depo Provera birth control drug finds the risk of breast cancer is increased, according to information released today from the on Abortion/Breast Cancer.

The group notes a study of 1,028 women ages 20-44 in the April 15, 2012 issue of Cancer Research found that recent users of Depo Provera (DMPA) for 12 months or more had a statistically significant 2.2-fold increased risk of developing invasive breast cancer.

The authors, Christopher Li and his team (including Janet Daling) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center called it the first large scale U.S. study examining the link between Depo Provera and breast cancer. They concluded it s the fifth study conducted over a diverse group of countries that have observed that recent DMPA use is associated with a 1.5- to 2.3-fold increased risk of breast cancer. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/study-depo-provera-use-increases-breast-cancer-risk/

Pro-Life Issues Are Winning Ones for Republicans in November
How big of an impact will abortion have in the November elections? Conventional wisdom holds that so-called social issues like the right to life are good for throwing a little red meat to the base now and then but are too divisive to be allowed to distract from real issues like the economy.

But the Washington Examiner reports that some Republican leaders plan to keep abortion in the spotlight as they attempt to dethrone President Barack Obama. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/pro-life-issues-are-winning-ones-for-republicans-in-november/

Netroots Nation Panel Gives Women Having Abortions Standing Ovation
A panel at the recent Netroots Nation event, a gathering of liberal and pro-abortion bloggers and activists, is getting not-so-flattering attention for giving a standing ovation to women who had abortions.

The panel reportedly focused on the bogus War on Women allegations where conservatives and pro-life advocates are accused of opposing women s rights because they stand up for de-funding the Planned Parenthood abortion business or conscience rights for religious groups and it featured Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/netroots-nation-panel-gives-women-having-abortions-standing-ovation/

China: Global Pressure Stops Threatened Forced Abortion
Global pressure appears to have stopped Chinese family planning officials in Changsha, Hunan province from following through with a threatened forced abortion on a woman and her unborn baby in the fifth month of pregnancy.

As LifeNews reported last week, the human rights group ChinaAid, which worked closely with Chen to help him leave China, learned that a 37-year-old woman, Cao Ruyi (pictured right), was dragged from her home and beaten on the morning of June 6 by more than a dozen Chinese family planning officials. The mother, pregnant with a five month old unborn child, was accused of violating China s one child policy because she and her husband, Li Fu, already have a six-year-old daughter. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/china-global-pressure-stops-threatened-forced-abortion/

My One Pound Premature Baby Has Enjoyed 13 Years of Life
13 years ago Tuesday, I gave birth to a 1 pound baby, after my water broke at 23 weeks. Very few people expected him to live, and we had been holding on desperately to hope that we d make it far enough that the medical establishment would consider him viable (24 weeks) and take drastic measures to save his life. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/10/my-one-pound-premature-baby-has-enjoyed-13-years-of-life/

New York Times Errs on Which Drugs Prevent or Destroy Human Life
Earlier this week, the New York Times published an article by science writer Pam Belluck titled Abortion Qualms on Morning-After Pill May Be Unfounded. The research piece that had been long in the works and its release was strategic, given our national focus on the Administration s contraceptive mandate. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/10/new-york-times-errs-on-which-drugs-prevent-or-destroy-human-life/

Abortion Aside, Andrew Hurwitz Not Fit for Judgeship
Andrew Hurwitz brags that, while clerking for U.S. District Court Judge Jon Newman, he played a key role in writing the 1972 opinions that provided the basis for the Supreme Court s reasoning in Roe v. Wade. Pro-life groups are understandably opposed to his nomination. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/abortion-aside-andrew-hurwitz-not-fit-for-judgeship/

Stories From the Abortion Clinic: Tales of Sidewalk Counseling
Most of the time you sidewalk counsel, patients ignore you both entering and leaving the clinic. Other times, they do react to you but not always in the way you hope. You encounter all different kinds of people and situations outside the abortion clinics, and this weekend proved just that. Some weekends are just harder than others. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/10/stories-from-the-abortion-clinic-tales-of-sidewalk-counseling/

United Methodist Church Continues Its Pro-Abortion Ways
There are many on the religious left who have decided that religion is nice, God is good, but culture is more important. Therefore, they have decided to take the pieces they like best of the Bible good, loving God who forgives all weakness and mix them with the lies of the culture abortion should be a woman s choice because it s not a life until, well, they don t know until when, but not until they say so at least. http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/united-methodist-church-continues-its-pro-abortion-ways/

Forced Sterilizations a Product of Population Control Ideology
Back in April, India s Supreme Court heard a case about a surgeon in the state of Bihar. This surgeon performed 53 operations in about two hours in conditions that can only be described as appalling: assisted by unqualified staff, with no access to running water or equipment to clean the operating equipment. . http://www.lifenews.com/2012/06/11/forced-sterilizations-a-product-of-population-control-ideology/
