MEDIA ADVISORY, April 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Jeff Shafer, Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) Senior Legal Counsel and lead attorney for The Children First Foundation, the non-profit sponsor of the New Jersey "Choose Life" license plate, will be available for media interviews immediately following his oral arguments which begin at 10 a.m. EDT today at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit located at 601 Market Street in Philadelphia.
Back in 2003 and 2004 the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission repeatedly refused to issue CFF's pro- adoption organizational specialty plate because it carried its "Choose Life" corporate logo with two smiling children and the words "Choose Life." The MVC had previously approved many other organizational plates for highly diverse political, religious and social causes including Teamsters, the Knights of Columbus and even Square Dancers.
In an ADF press release issued yesterday regarding the federal lawsuit ADF filed against New Jersey state officials entitled The Children First Foundation v. Legreide, Jeff Shafer stated, "A pro-adoption organization shouldn't be censored just because certain government officials don't share its viewpoint. This is private speech, not governement speech. State officials step into unconstitutional territory when they reject specialty plate messages that depart from their own viewpoint preferences."
The Children First Foundation promotes and supports adoption as a positive choice for an unwanted pregnancy or an unwanted newborn.
Were there to be no support in the whole history of ethical and moral thought, were there no acknowledged confirmation from medical science, were the history of legal opinion to the contrary, we would still have to conclude on the basis of God's Holy Word that the unborn child is a person in the sight of God. He is protected by the sanctity of life graciously given to each individual by the Creator, Who alone places His image upon man and grants them any right to life which they have.
