Tonight in Lodi: Stand Up for Jesus Rally

LODI, Calif., Aug. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- 200+ Christians will rally in Lodi this evening, calling for the constitutional religious freedom to pray in Jesus' name at city council meetings. Since May, the City of Lodi has instructed local pastors who give invocations before city government meetings that they cannot pray in Jesus' name.

The rally will be TODAY, Wednesday, August 5 @ 6:00 p.m. at 305 W. Pine Street in Lodi, California.

Tonight's 6:00 p.m. rally, which is attracting national media attention, will be led by former Navy Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt of the
Pray In Jesus Name Project. Immediately after the rally, Klingenschmitt will deliver 5,000+ petitions demanding respect for religious freedom to the city council, which meets at 7:00 p.m.

Among the speakers and singers at the rally will be Randy Thomasson, president of
SaveCalifornia.com, a statewide pro-family leadership organization that champions religious freedom and family values.

"Separation of church and state isn't in the constitution, but the free exercise of religion is a guaranteed right enshrined in the First Amendment," said Thomasson. "Jesus is not an illegal word nor should it be disparaged as such. Tonight people will publicly praise the name of Jesus Christ so even the city council can hear it."
