Dear Friends for Life, Peter Singer again: In October, Peter Singer from his throne at Princeton University, again repeated his belief that legal personhood exists only when a person is "self-aware." He claims that this state is not present at birth but rather not until after the age of two. Therefore he says that abortions (i.e. infanticide) should be legal until the child is two years old. Abortions definitely equal more Breast Cancers. In the Linacre Quarterly Journal, Dr. Angela LaFranchi details how 52 years of research has pointed to the fact that induced abortion, as well as hormonal contraceptives, can significantly increase the risk of breast cancer. In utero, the baby produces hormones that mature 85% of the mother's breast tissue, making it cancer resistant. This is why full-time pregnancy exerts a protective effect. Pregnancies ending two months or more early leave the breasts only partially mature with more places for cancers to start. Such premature births more than double the breast cancer risk. Early miscarriages, however, do not because of inadequate hormones at that time. Note that in the face of clear evidence, Komen for the Cure says absolutely nothing about this cause and effect. China is flourishing in Sex Trade. An entire "nation of women" is missing because they were aborted in China. Estimates for the deficit range from 30-50 million women. This has turned China into a "giant magnet" for human traffickers who lure and kidnap women and sell them, even multiple times, into forced marriages or prostitution. God Bless,

(Christmas in Asia): "Parliamentarians Forum in Asia Promotes Abortion" - The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) announced a new publication, "Maternal Health - An Advocacy Guide for Parliamentarians" which states "Laws that give access to quality universal maternal care and reproductive health (including family planning and safe abortions) are needed".

ITEM #1: Japan: 2010's new adults fewer than 1%
In 10 years, the population of 20-year-olds is expected to total 1.19 million. But after that, it is forecast to decline at an accelerated pace, reaching 930,000 in 2031. In 30 years, it is projected to fall to 780,000. "The pace of decline is intensifying in the youth population because people are having fewer babies and because the generation of people who are nearing 40 years old, the offspring of the second baby boomers, are not having enough babies to cause another baby boom," an institute official said.

ITEM #2: IVF and condom use are related in the culture of death Opposing IVF does not imply denying babies, conceived by IVF, their humanity. However, it's vital to oppose IVF as a way of conceiving children since it turns human beings into commodities to be brought to birth or discarded at will. Since the birth to the first IVF child over thirty years ago, in the UK well over two million embryos have been discarded, or frozen, or selectively aborted, or miscarried or used in destructive experiments.

ITEM #3: Planned Parenthood Launches 'Social Change Initiative' to Teach Parents How to Educate Children About Sex, Including Masturbation, Homosexuality
The project aims to teach parents and caregivers how to educate children about sex -- from birth. And it recommends telling teenagers about masturbation, oral sex and "where to go for help to prepare to be sexually active."

ITEM #5: Giving Alzheimer's Patients Their Way, Even Chocolate
Comment: Note the great story of the oversedated, tubefed woman and her response to this therapy. Actually, I really enjoy taking care of people with Alzheimer's - especially after learning so much from my mom when I cared for her. People with Alzheimer's/dementia can be quite a challenge sometimes but treating them with respect, patience and good humor generally brings out their best. This article shows that the low-tech, low cost creativity of caring can be an even more far-reaching medical breakthrough than the most advanced machine or surgery. -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #6: Moral Principles and Human Happiness
Moral principles should be derived from experience about what makes people happy, not from logic.
****************************************
ITEM #7: Contraception Linked To Massive Rise In Abortion Rate
Abortion advocates often promote contraception by claiming that as contraception use increases, the number of "unwanted" pregnancies and therefore abortions will decrease. But a new study out of Spain has found the exact opposite, suggesting that contraception actually increases abortion rates.

ITEM #8: This Week the One Millionth Report of Child Sexual Exploitation
The CyberTipline, the nation's reporting mechanism for suspected sexual exploitation of children, will receive its one millionth report this week. The CyberTipline is operated by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) which processes the reports of suspected sex crimes against children, some as young as two weeks old. Estimates are that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually victimized in some way before they reach the age of 18.

ITEM #9: Meet the Twiblings
Comment: This long article is about a couple where the woman failed to concieve despite several IVF treatments and ultimately decided to use 2 surrogates to have 2 babies born at approximately the same time. This quote says it all about why we have such bizarre situations: "When Michael's parents adopted his sister in the 1970s, there was an abundance of babies in the United States in need of homes, but the widespread use of birth control and abortion, among other factors, has caused the supply of infants available for adoption in the subsequent three decades to plummet to a fraction of what it was then." Most such articles ignore this fact. -Nancy Valko, RN

ITEM #10: The Womb and Reproductive Technologies: Telos and Integrity
Classical and theological discourse has always held a unique and deeply significant respect for the womb. Indeed, the womb is the place where the human person first experiences communion with another, where it is nourished and grows under the care of maternal union, where the developing person is most vulnerable and depends upon another in all things.

ITEM #11: The Case Regarding Capital Punishment
Capital punishment, popularly referred to as the "death penalty" is a long standing practice in jurisprudence. There is a very strong belief on the part of many deeply religious people that the Biblical admonition, "an eye for an eye" (Lev. 24:20) provides complete justification for sentencing someone to death who has been convicted of first degree murder in a court of law.****************************************
ITEM #12: The Moral Frontiers of Stem Cell Research
As new advances alter the possibilities of human reproduction, we must develop a morally sound body of law governing stem cell research and tissue donation. Science studies momentum and other physical quantities but it also has its own momentum, which we must harness to promote the common good.
