House Takes First Step in Repealing Abortion-Funding ObamaCare
The House of Representatives took its first step today in repealing the abortion-funding ObamaCare bill that pro-life groups strongly oppose.
On a 236-181 vote, Republicans approved the rules for debate for the legislation they will vote on next week to repeal the government takeover of health care.
Four Democrats (Reps. Dan Boren of Oklahoma, Mike McIntyre and Larry Kissell of North Carolina and Mike Ross of Arkansas) joined Republicans in supporting the rule while two Republicans voted present and 15 lawmakers of both parties did not vote.
The vote also paves the way for axing the abortion funding from ObamaCare.
The rule also provides for consideration of H. Res. 9, which instructs relevant House Committees to replace Obamacare with legislation that achieves certain goals including to prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions and provide conscience protections for health care providers.
Pence Files Bill to De-Fund Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz
Congressman Mike Pence dropped a bill in the hopper today in the House of Representatives that would revoke federal taxpayer funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business.
The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act ensures that taxpayer money authorized by the federal government for family planning efforts supposedly to reduce abortions don t go to the nation s biggest abortion business.
Last year alone, according to Planned Parenthood s own annual report, it received more than $363 million in revenue from government grants and contracts. During that same timeframe, it did 324,008 abortions, a 5.8 percent increase from the previous year, which also set a record high at that time.
It is morally wrong to end an unborn human life by abortion. It is also morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to promote abortion at home or abroad, Pence said today on the House floor in introducing his bill.
The largest abortion provider in America should not also be the largest recipient of federal funding under Title X, he said. The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act will prevent any family planning funds under Title X from going to Planned Parenthood or other organizations that perform abortions. It will ensure that abortion providers are not being subsidized with federal tax dollars. Full story at LifeNews.com
Shock: 41% of New York City Pregnancies End in Abortion
A new statistic released by the New York City health department is shocking pro-life advocates across the country today as it shows 41 percent of pregnancies end in abortion.
That compares with the figure of about 20 percent of pregnancies nationwide ending in abortions, as the abortion rate has been reduced over the last two decades from one in three to one in five pregnancies resulting in an abortion and the destruction of human life.
The new city numbers, from 2009, show 87,273 abortions in New York City two years ago numbers that are higher than the abortion figures of every state except California. If miscarriages are taken out of the equation, 48 percent of pregnancies of women in the Bronx end in abortion, 38 percent of Manhattan women opt for an abortion, as do 32 percent of women living on Staten Island.
Of the 225,667 pregnancies in new York City in 2009, 126,774 babies were born and there were 11,620 miscarriages. Full story at LifeNews.com
Gallup: Plurality, Some Democrats, Support ObamaCare Repeal
As House Republicans take the first step today towards voting on a bill that would repeal the abortion-funding ObamaCare bill pro-life groups oppose, a new Gallup poll finds a plurality of Americans support that effort.
Approximately 46 percent of U.S. voters support the repeal effort, some 40 percent oppose it, and 14 percent say they do not have an opinion yet on repealing the government takeover of the health care industry.
Americans broadly divided opinions on repealing the healthcare legislation are in line with Gallup polling from much of the past two years that showed the bill struggling to gain majority public support both before and shortly after its passage. Polls conducted more recently have shown Americans generally more opposed to than in favor of the healthcare law, Gallup noted. Full story at LifeNews.com
Romney Leads Republicans in New Hampshire, Ahead in Nevada
New polls released in New Hampshire and Nevada reveal good new for the potential presidential campaign of Mitt Romney.
The former governor and 2008 presidential candidate is the early frontrunner in the Granite State, where he lost to John McCain in 2008 in the primary that ultimately prepared the way for the Arizona senator to become the nominee.
The New Hampshire Journal poll, conducted by the Republican firm Magellan Strategies, shows Romney with a 23 percentage point lead over his closest competitor, pro-life former vice-presidential running mate Sarah Palin.
The polling numbers break down this way: Romney 39%, Palin 16%, pro-life former candidate Mike Huckabee 10%, pro-life former House Speaker Newt Gingrich 8%, pro-life Congressman Ron Paul 7%, pro-life Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty 4%, and pro-life former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum 3%. Full story at LifeNews.com
Daniels Close to Presidential Run, Abortion Truce May Hurt Him
Reports indicate Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels is inching closer towards a presidential run for the Republican nomination, but he may be hurt by an abortion truce he declared last summer.
Erin McPike of Real Clear Politics writes, Republican sources in Indiana say Daniels is about 75 percent of the way in for a presidential run.
The last 25 percent of his decision will come during the next four months of the Indiana legislative session, when he will try to pass education reform and a budget, he notes. Full story at LifeNews.com

Pro-Abortion Rudy Giuliani Denies a White House Run
Although pro-life Repbulican voters rejected the pro-abortion but otherwise well-regarded New York City mayor for the GOP nomination in 2008, Rudy Giuliani is reportedly considering a second run.
CBS news indicates sources close to the former mayor say he is talking to political advisors about another campaign for the Republican nomination, this time to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama.
Giuliani s 2008 presidential campaign won him just one delegate, as he failed to resonate either in conservative Iowa or South Carolina or more moderate New Hampshire. Although he was seen as leading the polls as late as the end of 2007, Giuliani fizzled when the pro-life Republican voters who dominate primary and caucus campaigns showed up to the polls.
The New York Post initially reported the news on Friday morning and Giuliani reportedly believes a GOP campaign filled with conservative candidates like Sarah Palin, Mike Huckbee and others would dillute the conservative vote and give him an opportunity to come away with the nomination.
The Post indicates Giuliani will be in New Hampshire next month to meet with Granite State voters, but the former mayor said he had nothing presidential in mind.
So far I haven t found any political advisors to round up, Giuliani said in an apperance on MSNBC on Friday morning, adding, of course I keep [running] in the back of my mind. Full story at LifeNews.com
Abortion Center Director Falsely Reporting Bomb Threat Gets 5 Years
The former director of an aboriton business in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was sentenced to five years probation for falsely reporting a bomb threat to authorities.
Linda Meek, the director of the Reproductive Services abortion center, pleaded guilty in October to charges of making false or misleading statements after telling police she supposedly found a bomb at the facility.
Meek reported on August 13 that a bomb had been placed in a trash receptacle, but she told the court in October she purchased an egg timer and place that in a trash bin and called the local police to report a bomb scare. Officials took the threat seriously and the abortion center and a building adjacent to it were evacuated.
KJRH indicates Meek was sentenced today to five years prohabion due to her role in the incedent. Meek, 63, eventually left her position with the abortion business after the false report. Full story at LifeNews.com
Light of Christ Can Overcome Abortion s Culture of Death
In between the joys of Christmas and New Year s Day, the Church offers us a reminder of the suffering that can be caused by fear. On December 28, the Church celebrated the feast of the Holy Innocents. These young infants are honored as the first martyrs for Christ, witnesses to the Light. The Gospel reading for the day reminds us of King Herod s fury when he realized that he had been deceived by the magi. He ordered the massacre of all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had ascertained from the magi (Matthew 2:16). Full story at LifeNews.com
