Dear Friends For Life, Sex-Selection Abortion in Asia leading to a "Cast of Outcast Men". A new study raises concerns that the loss of girls to sex selection abortion will lead to a group of surplus men that could threaten society. The study, led by Therese Hesketh of the University College London Centre for International Health and Development, analyzes the increased trend in China, Inida and South Korea to abort baby girls in favor of boys due largely to improved technology making sex determination tests easier and earlier. Consequently, the ratio of boys to girls has grown increasingly disproportionate, with levels so high now it is creating a whole group of men who will be unable to marry and consequently find their place in traditional society. "Because they may lack a stake in the existing social order, it is feared that they will become bound together in an outcast culture, turning to antisocial behavior and organized crime, thereby threatening societal stability and security," state the authors. In India we see that one State has restricts the sale of abortion pills. The Indian state of Maharashtra has restricted the sale of abortion pills in an attempt to combat the declining ratio of girls born due to sex selection abortion. Under the new ruling, abortion pills will require a medical prescription and the government will crack down on the use of sex determination tests such as ultrasound. Maharashtra's move exemplifies the critical need to end the growing problem of sex selective abortion.
Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women's Rights Without Frontiers, recently highlighted the tragic stories of women in China forced to abort their unborn children and the alarming statistics of 100 missing women and girls from sex selection abortion and the world's highest female suicide rate. She emphasized the violence against women and their loss of the right to bear children. "The coercive enforcement of China's one-child policy causes more violence against women and girls than any other official policy on earth. It is the largest women's rights issue in the world today," she said. Public policy should always support and protect the common good. Strengthening the family, based on marriage between a man and a woman, as well as promoting and protecting human life at all its stages is fundamental to a healthy society. God Bless,
Jerry Novotny, OMI

ITEM #1: Sterilizing the Unfit
Sterilizing the unfit is an old theme which spread even into America and Canada in the early 20th century. Today we are at it again.
****************************************
ITEM #2: I Will Not Apologize for My Post-Abortive Faith Defenders of abortion refuse to publicly acknowledge the terrible guilt pangs men and women suffer after aborting their children. This is a logical extension of their illogical refusal to acknowledge that abortion is the destruction of human life... No, it is not my Catholic faith that made me feel guilt and shame and all the other emotions I lived with for years. It was my innate call to motherhood. My humanness.

ITEM #3: 'Gay Rights?' In Defense of Rational Argument
As difficult as reasoned argument is, it's all that separates liberal political discourse from beast-like behavior. We can't let Darwin's principle guide the settling of questions this important. Rhetoric about 'gay rights' being civil rights, about 'overcoming discrimination' and 'progress in equality' has been shaken about in the faces of defenders of marriage like a drunkard's fist for two decades. Rhetoric without argument will not do. We can't let it. We should hold the administration's feet to the fire and make it set forth arguments for the rational plausibility of its decision.

ITEM #4: Population control 'RH Bill' fails to pass in Philippines
After an organized campaign of rallies, prayer vigils, and education initiatives, pro-lifers in the Philippines are celebrating the fact that the Filipino government's controversial "reproductive health" bill failed to pass this spring by the end of the legislative session in the House of Representatives.

ITEM #5: Biotech company using cell lines from aborted babies in food enhancement testing
Pepsico, Kraft Foods, and Nestle are among the corporations partnered with a biotech company found using aborted fetal cell lines to test food flavor enhancers.

ITEM #6: Dynamic new pro-life video makes case against abortion using embryology
In a brand-new, fast-paced video, the pro-life site Abort73.com makes the "case against abortion" based upon the development of the pre-born child.

ITEM #7 Abortion Prominent in Agenda for UN Population Commission
The theme of this year's commission is "Fertility, Reproductive Health and Development." The initial draft of this year's outcome document was released last week and as expected, the text is rife with references to sexual and reproductive health, family planning and contraceptives. Sadly, despite mounting evidence of the problems of demographic decline, there is only one scant reference to countries experiencing below-replacement fertility. ITEM #8: Contraception: Why Not?
Janet Smith explains why the Catholic Church keeps insisting, in the face of the opposite position held by most of the rest of the modern world, that contraception is one of the worst inventions of our time.

ITEM #9: Working Through A Hard Death
Caregivers and health care professionals can and often do greatly assist those who are suffering and dying. Even with careful pain management and comfort measures, however, the dying process can still be agonizing and difficult.
****************************************
ITEM #10: Look, no embryos! The future of ethical stem cells
For years, ethical issues hampered progress in stem cell research. Now, experts believe that developments in reprogrammed 'iPS' cells will truly revolutionise the treatment of life-threatening illnesses.

ITEM #11: Living together, falling apart
Why does cohabitation end up so often with the failure of the relationship?****************************************
ITEM #12: The majority of high-school students have remained sexually abstinent
More than one in two high-school students report they have remained abstinent, an increase of nearly 18 percent since the early 1990s. The trend was most striking among African-American students, with an 88-percent increase in those remaining abstinent.
